Very cool assembly. It is such a daunting task to open up any of my keyboards and this is a great solution.
I really enjoy your reviews sir. I get to try all the latest keyboards (at least vicariously) and I enjoy the way you present it. Thank you sor much. I hope the move went well and you're all settled in.
love this thing. great coverage
Good work Portly!
Thanks dude!
Great review once again Portly 🥰👍😉. Great feature with the screwless case closing design that just snaps together ….GENIUS 🤩👍! Reasonably priced kb imo.
The screwless design is almost a genius one but I'm afraid over time it would get loose and has noise out of it. Well, only time can tell. I like this unique layout, keeping the most useful keys and look pretty compact and sharp.
Nahhh, if you look closely the bottom halves of those mechanisms have screws on each outer side to adjust the ball bearing tension if they do ever get loose. Although given that these ball catch type mechanisms are meant for daily use in doors/cabinets/etc I'm sure they'll stay nice and tight for the very few times you actually open and close your keyboard while experimenting with different plates and whatnot :). Worst case scenario these are likely to be off-the-shelf parts that you could source to replace yourself
Hmmm PO for the PCB "flex cuts"? How long will that PCB last under all that abuse before it snaps traces? Sounds like this is designed to last until warranty expires no?
Yeah screws are for the birds!
That spacebar though - yuck. Gotta work on it modding it better xD
Considering I can get a tri-mode Zoom75 SHIPPED to me in the continental US for basically the exact same price as the Cycle 7 tri-mode, I don't get the complaints about how one is budget and the other isn't. In fact I can't get the cycle 7 for anything below $200 shipped in the US. $40 shipping will do that. I'm guessing either people just aren't looking at the total cost after shipping OR the people raving about it don't live in the US (or maybe it's specific to the east coast shipping). I know others complained a ton about shipping prices for the Zoom in the past. So this is just amusing to me when the Zoom will ship from Keebsforall for about $10.
I also really don't get the whole argument people have about it being "beginner friendly". Why? Because it has latches instead of 4 screws? Putting 4 screws in the bottom of a keyboard scares beginners??? You aren't the first to make this statement but I just find it really odd. And obviously if you had an LCD mounted to the top case (or anything top mounted) it would still be an issue requiring detachment of cables regardless of latching mechanism.
FYI, the wired version is VIA compatible. Wireless is not and will use a proprietary software. No idea what though as I haven't seen any info on it. Also haven't seen any info on the QMK firmware actually being made available but sure hope so.
