In japan we eat wakame(わかめ), rockweed(岩のり) and nori(のり、海苔). Also we eat sea lettuce (aosa, アオサ),green laver(aonori, 青のり), mozuku(もずく) and sea grapes(umibudou, 海ぶどう). There are very delicious so I hope you get a chance to try it. In parentheses, you’ll find instructions on how to read and write in japanese.
We eat sea grapes here in the Philippines. Do you eat wakame and nori fresh?

Not often, but sometimes I eat them raw.
No one cares about Japan here;;;;;; there are so many other countries that eat seaweed for centuries.. Japan is not the only one... always
But Fukushima is contaminated from cesium☢️☢️ isnt it????
@@Kk-jj3xi Overall, the radioactivity levels in the marine biota near Fukushima were lower than predicted by some early studies immediately following the accident, and exposures were too low for acute effects at the population level to be observed in marine organisms ranging from microalgae to mollusks to fish
One of the most valuable lessons I've learned as a visually impaired chef, is to taste everything. You can almost always get the same results if you know how something taste.
But poison?
Learning lowtide foraging will never make you starve...

California has left the chat.
Californian water is great because then you can skip the final step of adding a drizzle of oil on top.

That was one of the best "left the chat" jokes I've ever seen.
the whale part was hilarious. he said oh that's so majestic and then smelled the air and smelled awful.
You went to the right place. I used to live near Port Orford. The natural bay is full of seaweed! It's such a pristine area too.
The abundance of your garden is incredible
Pretty Cool with the Gray and calf checking you out! Fish the kelp beds of San Diego for 20 years in the Navy! Had the whales come right up to the boat before. Look like fun playing in the coves! Miss the cold blue pacific ocean and its critters!
the guy: identifies kinds of seaweed
me: this guy must've played subnautica for a looooooong time
Non stop action from start to finish!
More like this, please.
Love seaweed! Grew up eating all kinds.
Really great content and very inspiring!
What should you do if you are addicted to seaweed?
*Sea-kelp!*
Go home...
Who knew Portlandia was an accurate representation of Portland lmao
Much better to go yourself and come up with a real experience and representation.
I feel like you guys are watching Taku from "Outdoorcheflife" and just do the same videos as him. He did purple urchins, you guys did purple urchin. He did different types of seaweed, you guys did different types of seaweed. I bet you guys are going to do pickled kelp or different types of plants you can eat next.
I was just think about him especially the two videos u mentioned...
Even though Port Orford is a tiny port, I wouldn't harvest anything near someplace with fuel spilling boats.
We have our own deep sea kelp acquaculture base in China.it's really rich in nutritions .but it seems t be unpolular in european and american countries but really very hot sale in Asia
Trout and seaweed dish YUMMMM
Didn't know Danny McBride collects sea weeds ride on man
Thanks for sharing
Bru this guys job is to collect sea weed, I respect him 👊
Yes
Kelp & seaweed & algae is best for your thyroids and high in iodine.
Anyone have any recipes other than Asian food? I’m looking for some kind of fusion or a different way to eat it.
I roast potatoes and when they've softened in the middle I fry them in a pan with some dulse seaweed. I will season them depending on my mood but one combination of flavour is sweet paprika, nutritional extract OR miso and a bit of tahini. Then when they're coated and fried enough, you can sprinkle some sesame seeds and chilli flakes on top to serve. I like to have these with a side of my homemade spicy butter beans.
what's up dude! Nice video. I live right by the beach and I love seaweed and always wanted to just try it but never thought it was edible here. Do you know if it's possible in southern california?
I can live off raw seaweed as long as I have a bottle of chojang, gochujang+vinegar+sugar. No one does seaweed like Korean cuisine.
I would add Japanese to that
@@神崎アオイ-o4o yeah.. when I think seaweed. And edible. Thee Japanese come to mind...
@@famousbowl9926 The Japanese have a gut bacteria unique to them, helping to digest seaweed better.
@@神崎アオイ-o4o I would too but Koreans eat it more. It's eaten in larger quantities in every day food. Both are good.
@@trex1448 oh but Japanese have it in their miso soup everyday... what do they put the seaweed in?
That whale really yeet his fart lol
Just remember, if the spray hit him it's all over his harvested seaweed too.
The whale scared the crap out of me 😂
Wow this is a unique ingredient I would try though
Not unique. Very common in Asia
Any issues with heavy metals being discharged from boatyard runoff in this area?
You would have to test
awesome.
What about the bull whip kelp pickles.
Guys remember SLEEP IS IMPORTANT
Matthew Alson sudardjo damn it it’s 5:15 AM and I just finished watching the whole video.. and the first comment I see is this one. 😂🤣

Thanks dude it’s getting late
im eating east coast dulse and dried nori right now. very salty, very delicious.
Now that's Thinking Out of the Box, seaweed, grow it Harvest it sell it to people who eat it, excellent idea.... I just I just wish somebody would figure out what to do with lawn clippings...😋
Moooooo
I really want to drink kelp juice from SpongeBob
The whale looked like it was about to die so no wonder it stunk
Man I want to move to the west coast and live off seaweed and sea urchin
American Chef: you can actually eat this
Asians: ...Hold my sushi
that job looks so fun 🥺 is he hiring?????
Imagine dying by getting smothered by these kelps while harvesting
AWSOME
As an Asian, some comments are so regrettable. In Asia, seaweed is cooked and eaten in a variety of ways, but Westerners are talking about Subnautica Games. Sigh.
Oh wow tasty seaweeds 😋👌
Jacob awesome man
Love it
Wild seaweed. Also known as...seaweed.
There’s many types of seaweed if you didn’t know...
@@jenjen9613 lol tell me more!

@@jeffwei you idiot….. not in conditions like that! Where great whites are 100% hunting. Nope. Ive been in plenty of different oceans and seas. Never in conditions I know a massive predatory animal is lurking no doubt. Now go pound salt…

I always wondered why whenever I see seaweed I get so hungry and I want to eat it so bad. It's like a hunters instinct. It just make me want to eat it so bad. Even this video is making me want to bite into the seaweed. I'm Native American btw. Call it instinct
I think that soup is way too much, maybe as a stock base or sauce but holy crap the umami favour would be overpowering as a soup.
im hungry
Man u best
Outdoor chef life??
I prefer this 'new' Jack Osborne.
someone will smoke this things and then boom, no more seaweed
La flama blanca
Those glasses, stash, and sea mullet hair say otherwise. Sure you are a chef and not Dale Earnhardt SR fan. Just kidding. If I can get to Portland, I'll stop by.
Omg
korea and japan have been eating seaweed for thousands of years. welcome to the club.
It was all on point until olive oil
They gave him 11 mins for this but the Asian family get 4 mins????
Is this an elaborate parody? I can't tell.
