it's so hard to watch this because I was born in Mumbai and raised there for 6 years of my life. luckily my family and I were able to move to the states for better lives and opportunities but I'll NEVER forget where I come from. I love India and one day I'm going to be so successful that I can do everything in my power to help. it's easy for people to sit back and watch these videos and talk shit but it hits you a different way when you've actually been face to face with the stuff that's in this video. There's a lot of things that must be changed in India starting with the thousands of poor children roaming the streets being at risk of getting kidnapped and or raped. i'm hoping and praying for a better India each and everyday.

There is very little real squalor apart from the polluted canals on the perimeters. These people are hard working, resourceful and resilient. They deserve more from their government.
It is so sorry sighted for the authorities not to see how much Dharavi contributes to the city. The place needs redevelopment - slowly street by street, retraining communities and businesses and with consultation with residents. But politicians and bought bureaucrats want to make themselves rich at the expense of the real workers in India. As always.

It's painful to watch humanity suffer in severe conditions. Frankly speaking, democracy doesnt just come in political party names, voting rights etc... If a party is minimising poverty, levitating living standards for the mass, then that's democracy. Im not here to argue which nation's political party is better. We should be on the same team since we're all spiritual beings with a human life experience.

It isn't a working one, as an estimated one third of India's people are undocumented and thus don't have a right to vote, but if that issue was solved, it would truly be a democracy.

These kind of things show just how bad parts of India can be. The Indian government has become corrupt and weak. It only supports wealthier people and people in the government. And the wealthier Indians aren't doing enough to fix the problem either. My parents are Indian and I was born in the US. Whenever I went to India to visit my relatives, I'd always see dozens of men, women, and kids on the streets begging for food while none of the normal middle or upper class people walking by would bother to give even a penny. I'm not necessarily angry that this is happening but I am angry that nobody's doing anything about it. I'm sorry if I offend you when I say this but you have to at least try to fix your government and help your people. What the government's doing now isn't even close to enough

Reply Man I completely agree, I live in England but have relatives in India who claim it's 'developing' however I see no social development. the caste system still exists, residents treat the poor like they don't exist - it's devastating.

Reply Man: A corrupt and weak government is the product of an over populated country where most pepole are too desepate and hungry for food and water to surive. Poverty breeds corruption. When people are deserpate to survive, corruption thrives. Meanwhile, Indians just keep making more babies to make more poor people to compete for food and water.

@Reply Man Your parents left the country like millions others, get off your high horse then maybe you will see how hard some IAS officers and NGO's are working.
Its not easy when there is a billion mouths to feed & house, India isnt perfect by any means but we are trying our best so that a country of a millions ehnicities, religion and creed is bound together by a strong fabric of democracy.
Its easy to be a edgelord sitting in your suburban home, without understanding the complexities and mindset of Indians living in India.

We brought 300 million people out of poverty in just 10 years between 2006-2016, that's the entire population of U.S.A, that's a very big number and for a democracy a lot bigger. Govt. must do it, it will benefit all of them, they will get better houses to live in and Mumbai will look a lot better. And these people who are commenting sitting in nice homes abroad can't fuck around anymore saying Govt. is corrupt. Indian Govt. provides free healthcare to poors, and they are in millions, in a country where only 3% of the population pays taxes any other county can't even dream about it.

India is a very corrupted country. the rich are so rich and the poor are so so so so poor. !!! the government spends 5630 cr ( 8,660,066 USD ) on a project called aadhaar, which basically is just an identity card for every citizen and each person has to still pay 50 rupees or something, and the government recently had a Demonitisation on the large notes which effected so so many poor people, the reason for the - Demonitisation policy was to help India to become corruption- free, but still the rich escaped it, and the poor were the ones who suffered more... it's sickening! the government doesn't care about the poor people.... and there's a banned on beef, you cannot sell or eat beef, since the New prime minister is a Hindu. and oh yes, India has a northeast place where mostly Christians stays and that's a bit alright, the people are broad minded and they live a simple life, no pollution, no bomb blast, no killing, places like mizoram, meghalaya, etc.... I've heard good things about those places compared to the other states.

_z_z ___ I am from the northeast and yes a Christian. Life is simple inthe northeast of course with its complications too. Everything is not perfect but yea we survive. The mainland Indians are hardworking but yes the poverty in mainland is worst than the northeast. The rich are very rich indeed

No country or city is perfect. By demeaning & ridiculing India you are slandering your own roots. Remember your own family has been part of India's economics & growth. You make India. Stay focused on being a better Indian and rest will fall in place.

Urban areas with high population across thecworld of issues. How many people migrate to a Manipur or Nagaland for education, livelihood & a better lifestyle as compared to a Delhi or Mumbai? Nothing to do with Christian or Hindu..its the mindset of people thats decaying India. They think that their small community is India & do not think of themselves as part of a larger eco system thats India.

Indian Army keeps you safe.. is it Christian or Hindu? The land u live on whats its religion? Indian independence was a result of the efforts of all communities & people of all faith - not just Christians, Hindu,Sikh/Muslim etc. If u cannot appreciate this counry as an Indian...exit it & live in a Christian dominaed country- India certainly gives u that free choice

it hurts me to think that celebrities in america have massive houses and multiple cars to themselves when in reality all that space and money could give people a home.
