I absolutely love these kinds of random things popping up in my recommended feed heh, its so cool and honestly so genuine to just see some dude nerd out about the difference between a fungus gnat and a mosquito, and I learn something along the way to!

When I was a kid, our garden was always a mess, so there was a ton of junk collecting standing water. I always found mosquito larva kind of mesmerising to watch at that young age, I didn't actually know what they were back then. I'd give the containers they were inhabiting a slight kick and watch them all dart down to the bottom, then watch them rise back up with that weird wiggle they do to swim. Ah, you know things are rough when you think back fondly to watching larvae swim about. Childhood wonderment, there's nothing quite like it.

I hope all's well with you. I like flicking the top of the jar and watching the larvae "fly" down, then wriggle back up. Thanks.

Wonderful video! So fascinating that halteres would be evolutionary advantageous enough to appear independently! Wonderful example of convergent evolution!
