Why is nobody mentioning the obvious?? TVs for decades have come out with 3.5 mm audio jacks as standard. We have smart TVs now but we can no longer use headphones? How moronic is that??

I've been trying to get headphones for my fathers Samsung TV and it's nearly impossible. Only thing he has is a digital coax audio out, optical, and HDMI out. This limits me extremely when trying to find something to hook up earphones. Can't use any analog in and needs to be a high end soundbar with optical inputs and none of those I can find have a 3.5mm aux out. I'm almost to the point of telling him he needs to sell that TV and buy another one because it'll be cheaper than all the stuff he'll need to buy to get a $20 pair of earphones to work. It's upsetting how difficult this has been and the hours of time I've invested in trying to do such a simple task.

@@terrimary6320 and Taylor - go to Amazon and search for iLiv wireless TV heaphones, it comes complete with all the necessary adapters to hook up to any TV, I'm just trying to find out how to hook these guys up to a TV that has no "headphone jack". They come with digital coax audio out, optical and HDMI hookups. They cost about $75, but very much worth every penny. Make sure you buy the warrantee with the product, they are only guaranteed for 90 days, then you have to go to the manufacturer for any problems. This company is EXCELLENT, they really take care of you and you can call them for just about anything having to do with these headphones. Its spelled iLiv wireless TV headphones, a company by RCA.

Thanks for sharing I might try this later. My LG TV only has optical plug. No Headphone Jack. I tried a very complex system which included like 3-4 different cables with different plugs / adapters and in the end after a month of research and studying all the parts I finally got the last part. And.... the sound was absolutely horrible. I was only able to return half of the stuff because some of it wasn't covered for return. This is so dumb I mean why would you make a TV without headphone jacks? I don't understand. The TV is modern, has multiple apps like netflix, amazon and good internet connection but no bluetooth and headphone jack? The hell man? Seriously why? Now I'm considering selling it which is another pain in the ass on top of the previous one. If I had know this I would have never purchase that stupid TV.

My Dad is hard of hearing needs headphones (hearing aid accessories and blue tooth hurts his ears too much echo). I am THRILLED I could plug in his favorite headphones using good old reliable "wired" technology. Because Dad sits 10 feet away I did get a 10' headphone extender braided good quality. Mom sits next to dad and wants to hear the TV at normal volume. Seemed impossible right? Not so heres how I did it .. but first let me preface they have an older Samsung TV, no Optical out, no Headphone Jack or USB ports. (Best Buy Tec mistakenly identified the service port as a headphone jack port but it didn't work). Went to one of those PC repair stores and bought speakers with a volume control and headphone out jack(both very important) .Connected the RCA to female adapter shown in this video to the cable box (not tv) (must do this is you have cable connected to your HTMI port on TV. Next, you need to plug in your pc speakers (tried plugging in headphones at this step thru did not work). Only thought the headphone out jack on the pc speakers do the headphones actually work while allowing the TVs internal speakers to keep sound. So Dads headphones have the volume way high from the pc speakers to old headphones while Mom can control the volume on the tv like always with her remote. Its perfect! If you unplug the headphone then you hear the pc speaker (in our case very loud since its turned up for dad). Showed my mom how she can switch between internal speakers to pc speakers just by unplugging the headphones. Spent $30 and have two happy parents!

Nice video, i'm opting for the pc speakers. Just ordered them. But i do wonder something. Does the quality of the speakers matter? Or is it pretty much just being used as like a pass-through or amplifier? Hopefully it will just come down to the quality of my headphones.

what if you don't want to use a sound bar or PC speakers? I have a good set of headphones but the TV that was given to me has no "headphone" jack in the back of the TV. How do I connect the charging dock to the TV? All sorts of adapters came with these headphones, a USB adapter, optical adapter, pls tell me how to do this? None of the videos do a simple set up, all the videos on youtube add all these extras in, sound bar, PC speakers. I can adjust the volume on my headphones by a switch on my headphones. All I am trying to do is hook up the charging port to the back of the TV - again, there is no 3mm jack, just "audio in and out" and optical hookups. Pls help !

I just wanted to thank you for your help. I’ve been trying for a while now to figure out how to use headphones on my tv that doesn’t have a headphone jack and you solved the great mystery, using pc speakers with a headphone jack. I ran it from the digital audio optical port on the tv connected to a digital optical cable, conected to a prozor digital to anolog audio converter, to an RCA to 3.5 mm female, then connected it to my pc speakers. It works flawlessly. Thank you again, Sir.

Doesn't work on my Samsung. I guess I'll try getting a soundbar like that because nothing is happening with my PC speakers except a hum. All the sound is still from the television. I'm so disappointed. It's insane that an expensive tv doesn't have something so simple as a headphone jack. (Edit: Just so people know, it's a Samsung LED TV Series 5 - 5205 525D).

I did. I've tried everything under the sun, and then some. I'm counting it at as a loss. I just knew it would work, too. (Which clearly it does on other tv's). It just doesn't work on my Samsung. Even though it didn't work for me, thanks for the video. I have the feeling those new cables I bought for this will come in handy someday on another tv. At least they were inexpensive, and the extended headphones I got are nice and work on a different tv. (Not that I'll ever use them in there. lol!) I'm just glad I found my old speakers and never bought new ones.

Hello, I attempted to do this, though the cable adapter I got is a RCA to 3.5mm male... I plugged it to a 3.5mm female-female piece to which then I connected my headphones, but audio keeps coming out from the TV.
I was thinking it may be because of that extra step due to the male output. Do you think the problem may be that it's not a RCA to 3.5mm female?
    Thanks!

This is so basic that if it isn't obvious, you really just don't have the ability to learn new things. And if your TV has no headphone jack and you can't find a way to hook up your speakers, this video probably isn't going to help you at all. Because if you're like me, my TV ONLY has a headphone jack, and it's a smart TV, but doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities. So when I am searching, like many others, for ways to hook up a sound system with no headphone jack, that MOST TIMES means no audio out. Not no headphone jack.

    Hi,
Thanks for the video. I have a question though.
I’m trying to figure out a solution for our living room. My dad uses headphones to hear the TV but we also listen to the sound out of the TV speakers. Before we could do this just fine because the DirectTV box has an auxiliary out that went straight to the wireless headphone dock. We’ve switched to using the Roku which connects to the TV via HDMI.
How can we hook up the headphones to the TV so sound will be played through them AND the TV speakers at the same time?
    Thanks.

    • @JMT34237
      @JMT34237 6 лет назад +1

TechManZ No. Not the express version. The more expensive Roku devices have a headhphone jack in the remote but this causes the sound from the TV to stop.
I did find a solution though. I bought a Bluetooth transmitter from Amazon which hooks up via the optical out port on the back of the TV. I’m just waiting on the Sennheiser 4.40 HD headphones to arrive in the mail.

no,,do your ears a favor avoid sounbars and cheap pc speakers, anyone who has bought a recent Samsung knows your not going to get any analog outputs on current gen samsung TVs and im sure many others are dropping analog outs of any kind,,,even headphone jacks are getting extinct on some brands,,seems whatever samsung and LG do others are sure to follow suite,,, making it a bit more work to keep using any analog amp,, currently on my 50 inch samsung you get optical audio out and hdmi,,either way your going to need a converter,, I am looking into possibly using one or more source devices like a htpc to try a workaround but the simple route is to just pickup a decent receiver cheap and get the best pair of speakers your budget will allow,,of course this will lead you down the upgrade path lol
