When I saw you on CJ's vacation video I could tell that you were a biker by the legs and the way you handled the bike. I guess CJ is taking after his father, unless Mom is very musical. Good video here. I hope you will make more as I will never get to Canada so each time either of you post a ride, it is like a free vacation.

Thanks for sharing and a warm welcome to You Tube!. Great video, I can't believe how quiet the roads are, you are very lucky to have such a beautiful commute to work. I wish my journey to work was as nice as that. My route to work is a 22 mile round trip with a lot busier roads. I have done it a few times but I really need to find a safer (and quieter) route if I was to do it daily. I am more of a seasonal rider and tend to base my rides and distances dependant on weather. Stay safe and I hope we can see some more videos, How about a quick review of your road bike? thanks again for sharing. Best Regards Joe ( England, UK)

      Hi Joe,
Thanks for the comments - my commuting bike is a road bike. Originally I used an old mountain bike, but didn't find it was fast enough and the tires didn't prevent flats. This bike is a Giant OCR1 which is an alum compact frame with Shimano 105 3x10 gearing and attachments for rack and fenders, It is a better bike than I need for commuting, but I already had it, it was growing old in my garage. I also have a bar end mirror and most importantly, kevlar belted tires (to avoid flats on the way to work). My philosophy is to keep track of my annual commuting distance, convert that to money saved on fuel for the car and spend that on stuff for bicycle commuting - parts, clothes etc. That has amounted to over $3300 so far, so I have tons of gear.
Regarding your commute - I agree that your distance is too far to do daily. I didn't mention this strategy on the video, but could you ride the best (probably least traffic) portion, then drive the rest? That works out ideally if the best portion is on the work end, so you still have your vehicle home every night if needed.

Yes, I commute in Toronto a lot shorter distance, and lots of traffic and lots of pot holes. I would dream to have a commute like this with hardly any traffic and smooth roads.

What a cool commute, and practically traffic-free! I don't recall seeing many cars on your huge roads .. or bikes .. or people .. or even dogs! I do daily bike courier services in Edinburgh, Scotland .. or as I call it - Engineburgh! Man, the tiny, over-rated city is stuffed full of motorised muppetry and the roads are in worse condition than the streets of Baghdad... I'm emigrating soon!
