Well.. damn. That last part unleashed Majorkill's inner literary novelist upon us full blast. It was... beautiful. Shame that major companies and developers often overlook such story arcs for simplistic conclusions.

You get an army exclusive to Forgeworld with horrendously broken war machines and overpowered equipment that cost you a kidney to acquire.
Well, yeah and no. They have good war machines but the lack of accuracy and slow reload time makes them not very reliable for their price. CD units are good but expensive, and hobgobelins counts as a rare unit and are a shitty unit. Maybe their roster woukd be good if it wasnt limited, maybe by merging all their army lists together and rebalancing them a bit.
Creative Assembly is going to have fun recreating Chaos Dwarves in Game 3!
@@christiandauz3742 Even the Chaos Dwarf mods for games 1 &2 are great! (Though for some reason fireglaives are Melee only so you only have quarrelers, the Devastators with their blunderbusses, and Annihilators with their lower damage longer range trollhammer torpedo things for ranged Dawi Zhar infantry (Plus hobgoblins with bows, but you'll not necessarily get too much use out of them since they're weak vs armor like normal goblin bows.) Their steam shotgun train tank thing is just a slightly reskinned Steamtank which actually makes it a little more powerful than it should be, because one of the shotguns is turret mounted instead of both being forward mounted. And the Dreadquake hits like a pre-nerf viletide. Or a lower damage Bloated corpse (It's like 160 damage but that still kills most infantry models)

Chaos dwarves are a victim of early installment weirdness. They weren't really defined as well as other factions which is a shame because what we did have on them was dope.

The Dwarfs are as bad about pretending the Chaos Dwarfs don't exist as the Dark Angels are with The Fallen.
They don't seem to pretend they don't exist in the same way Humans do about the Skaven, after all Gotrek admits they exist when arguing with Felix about the corruptibility of manlings. (Though Felix was a blood brother by oath so I guess that may have played a role.) They just don't like talking about them.

That......actually makes a lot of sense. It makes you think wether or not the chaos dwarfs inspired the iron warriors, or vice versa.

You should add this to your Fixing the End Times playlist. There are enough casual fans who don't know anything about the Chaos Dwarves for the full explanation of them to be understandable and accepted by everyone who already knows that stuff, and your version of the Dawi Zharr ending was frickin' sweet.
All hail Greasus, savior of the dawi zhar and slayer of Grimgor by turn 20. In exchange for a tier 3 settlement near Ghorst he offered def allience, trade and 8k and even thanked me for paying him tribute. Best neighbor Drazhoath ever had. :D
I would do something different as the Chaos Dwarfs technically exists in AoS (they have forge world armybook or whatever the AoS version of the army book is called) I would actually have Hashut notice the signs of that the end time or at least a cataclysmic battle was coming.
Recognizing that there was a chance that he would not survive this coming battle, he would order his followers to prepare a ritual that would allow them and most importantly himself to be reborn should the end up not surviving this coming battle.
Using sorcery combined with rune forging the chaos dwarfs would bridge their world through time and space to that of the fire realm of the mortal realms.
A bridge that would transport their souls and the essence of Hashut should they die.
As grimgor ironhide slaughters his way through the chaos dwarf, the bridge sucks in their souls and Hashut fights against Gork and Mork able to hold his own against them, but as the last of his followers dies he becomes too weak to keep up the stalemate and ends up destroyed.
The last bit of his essence flees Gork and Mork and opens the bridge and takes him and all of his followers to the Mortal realms here like parasites during the time of chaos, Hashut infects a hold of Dwarfs and eating the dwarf souls and replaces them with that of his own followers.
The new souls then begins to twist and change the appearance of these dwarfs so they start mirroring the former bodies of the souls that now inhabits these new bodies.
Hashut strong enough on the souls devoured once again takes his place in the warp and things go back to normal as they where before the end times.
Hashut has probably survived the End Times. Here's the description from Forge World itself:
"Twisted Duardin who sell their souls in service to Hashut, the Legion of Azgorh are infamous for the terror they spread across Aqshy the Realm of Fire.. Entrenched within a dread fortress built in the Ashcloud Mountains, they harbour utter contempt for all others. Man or beast; grot or monster - all fall before them, enslaved to fuel the Legion’s malevolent industry and sacrificial pyres. Masters of murderous war engines and unyielding iron, the realms tremble when the Legion of Azgorh marches forth."
@Andrew Gray Very simple i point you towards the latest Gotrek audiodrama, where Gotrek finds a portal that would (if he had walked through it) lead him back to the old world.
Yes he chooses not to go through it, but to destroy it, though not before apologizing to Felix for abandoning him and Felix actually hears him.
That and that Gotrek can hear Felix, could mean that the portal can go either way, something from the old world could enter the mortal realms and vice versa.
Now where did that portal come from? We are never told so would it be such a stretch to imagine that this was the very portal, that Hashut came through to the mortal realms from the old world?
Yes both Hashut and the chaos dwarfs had been destroyed, in the time that the portal was showing, but whose to say it doesn´t go in a loop right up til the destruction of the old world and then winds back time to when it was first opened.
Thankfully Hashut is alive and well in AOS, some humans have even started worshipping him.
I don't know how some random Australian can come up with better endings then GW's "writers"!?

Well, most people would come up with better endings to fantasy than GW. I am fairly sure even my grandma would, and she has been dead for a decade.
Chaos Dwarves got excellent treatment in Tamurkhan the Throne of Chaos which I still re read from time to time....I like your ending too MajorKill

I mean, look at those shitty models tho, no wonder they didn't sell well and GW eventually abandoned them. It was a shitty time for GW, most of that lore had to be retconed because it was just that bad. Like, Cathay, Nippon and Araby were teased at that time and it backfired horribly as they were all just a lame copy paste of China, Japan, etc with little originality to it.

@@Roman-vj6pt They 100% deserved it, at least from a lore perspective. They should have had more stories written about them before the end times though.
@Char Aznable There was an effort in making The Empire unique and it is in no way just a copy of HRE (last time I remember the HRE didn't have a problem with vampires or steam tanks), it only gets inspiration from aesthetics and some political themes. Bretonia is actually pretty unique since there was never any mix of Arthurian Britain mixed with Medieval France, that's pretty creative. Norsca only parallel it draws from Vikings is the northen raider theme but that's about it since GW wrote a ton to make them unique and part of their own universe. Meanwhile Cathay is just an old word that means "China", Nippon literally means Japan and Japanese and I don't even need to mention Araby. There was no effort in making them unique like they did with Aztec Lizardmen riding dinosaurs for instance. People just don't like lazy writing.

One thing I might add to your end times story is that instead of instantly getting possessed by Hashut. The Greenskins instead would break down the door and charge. “Save them” Zhartan would say and charge back up the stairs holding the Greenskins back as Grimnir began his grim work.
As Zhatan fights however his rage grows and eventually he is consumed by Hashut and becomes his avatar. The Greenskins would begin to shit themselves and run away at the fear of the monster before them.
Then Hashut and Grimnir would have their epic fight upon the incinerated bodies of the Dawi-Zharr whose souls are now with their ancestors. Everything else happens as major says, Zhatan is burned of corruption and also saved, Hashut is killed by Gork and Mork and life goes on until the world is destroyed and we have age of Sigmar
It's pretty neat you let some of the Chaos Dwarves have some form of redemption; letting them live would have been a bit fucked up considering all the horrible things they've done.
Current Total War 3 - Chaos Dwarfs are such a fun faction to play.

I remember reading that before pledging to Hashut the Chaos Dwarfs in their half built barely-a-holds were getting a LOT of mutated and stillborn kids despite all their resistances, and pledging to Hashut actually stabilized the mutations.
