Since all the price hikes, I’m seeing SOOOO many more figs peg warming. I think a lot of casual collectors who would normally pick up a sneaky Legends figure every now and again are just looking at the price and keep walking.
Yep. Normally get the characters I want and occasionally pick up something to add to a villains line or complete a team. Haven’t bought a legends all year
The fact that their box arts are all much better looking than what they produce shows me that they know what figures should look like (to a degree) and are just too lazy, cheap, incompetent or some combination of those to execute it.

Thought the toe hinge and improved aesthetics might make this worth tracking down secondhand, but that MvC pose at the end has convinced me that the articulation still isn't there yet. For the same price point to get Spider-Man solo, might as well just repaint a bootleg Mafex and call it a day.
I just wanna point out the body sculpt as you mention it at around 5:54 I agree that it's not a very ideal super heroine/ muscular sculpt, but in this case that's actually okay. Mary Jane as Spinneret doesn't really have powers on her own, Peter shares his power with her using the technology in her suit (tech taken from Regent, the villain in the first Renew Your Vows story)
3:34 if you only knew.. here on Mexico there are people paying even $2,000 MXN for that shit, that's around $100 USD. Justifications for that are usually that we didn't get a good batch of them distributed here and that it is pretty rare and everyone loved the packaging, even though most people would take the figure out of it anyway. It's just nuts what happened here with that thing, talking about unnecessary expenses.

Just a heads-up in case that it helps: This 2 pack has been on discount ($1250 MXN) these days (they run out but have been restocking the next day) on Amazon MX. I just ordered mine as I passed on the retro release precisely because of what you are commenting.
Spidey color scheme is the 90s/Retro for me, but Miles Morales' black and red Spidey suit pops as well. As far as this release, I have a feeling Hasbro wanted to throw this improved Spidey in a two-pack to force you to get Spinneret as well (But she's great in her own right). Still a tiny bit over but I feel it's more worth it than not considering resellers are trying to flip Spidey for the price of the whole set.
Hey they made a animated series spidey recently that released I think and it's in that percent 90s colour scheme like the cartoon was and has the accurate eyes too. Just letting ya know in case ya wanted to check that out

Gotta agree with ya on that mate. I absolutely love that figure. My only nitpick with it is that they didn't use the blue back spider like the comic did in his first appearance. Overall though that figure is amazing no pun intended . especially for a marvel legends figure
The box render being better is *super* weird to me. Like is someone changing the file before it goes to machining just to spite us? "When you do something right, people won't know that you've done anything at all" we notice when things are wrong more than we can point out when they're right. I personally prefer the classic (Web-man) style torso. That or cyborg spidey are still my favorites.
That photoshopped image looks very remiscent of late 80's to mid 90's Spiderman body types. Not exact, but it gives off that feel. Tall and beefy, put a McFarlane Spiderman head sculpt on that image, then we're close to perfection.
Good figures but they aren't worth the price, especially when I don't really care about one of the characters in it. My favorite spider man color scheme is a dark red and light blue but a light red and dark blue work well too imo.
Those venom feet look nice. On mine, I swapped them with the old Hyperion mold Venom. They work well enough for now (way better than the toes), but they don't fit perfectly. Looking forward to yours.
I did the toe pivot swap and put on the First Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man and I gotta say it’s near perfect with the toe pivot. This version Renew your vows is also amazing but I noticed the crouching seems more fluid than Renew vows and doesn’t have the notch behind head. Amazing Fantasy has neck hinge and looks better looking up and down.
i know this is an unpopular opinion, but honestly ive always liked the red and black colour scheme for spiderman. its just more visually appealing for me personally, i still love the brighter red and darker blue look though.
I like the light blue and bright red colors for Spidey, something like the MAFEX repaint that comes out next month or the Diamond Select one. The retro pizza Spidey has a great paint job too, I just don't like the red on that one, it also had a nice matte finish that no other Spidey figure has ever gotten again. I'm surprised Hasbro took the time to change the hips to improve the aesthetic but not the range. I hate the drop down hips, they never work in my Spideys. I know they don't do anything for the range anyway but it's still annoying. The arms on my figure aren't well connected either and the peg is visible, same as the rotation for the knees... Like, I'm happy this figure is an actual improvement over the retro one but buying a Marvel Legends nowadays feels so... Bad.
I want this set mainly for Spinneret I absolutely love her design and I agree this Spidey is much better then the previous ones but I still have the other ones and still like them😂
Definitely like the navy blue and bright red for my Spidey. The weblines on my Spinneret were smudged. The Shriek body isn't good enough for a spider character. She's also missing the details on her hands. Why Hasbruh is still doing shoulders like this boggles the mind. The fact that we didn't get their daughter in this pack makes ZERO sense. Can't wait to see your take on the Amazing Fantasy Spidey Anthony!
I've been waiting for you to review this one! And as usual you delivered. I totally agree with your take on this version of Spidey, but with a couple of gripes: (1) This Spidey is way too big and muscular for my preferred look for the character, and (2) I really hate it when Hasbro packs a figure or character they KNOW everyone wants into 2-packs or 3-packs, forcing people to pay extra for stuff they don't need nor want. It's just a really scummy tactic.
I have the Sentinel Peter B. Parker figure to compare it to, and while the style is wildly different, the range of motion is what makes that figure so much better than this new Spidey. I love it, and it hits a lot of the right marks for legends, but the three point crouch is my one major pose I wanted to put Spiderman in and the new ML can hardly do it.
I didn't hate the prior retro Spider-Man, but it was always a bit off to me and was generally an underwhelming figure that I didn't get the hype around. The webbing paint was poor and mine had a drop-down hip that had no friction on one half, so he perpetually leaned to one side. This new one I think is a vast improvement, far more heroic in proportions and I had a lot of fun posing it unlike the last version which I sold once I had this one. Spinneret for me is just a better painted Mary Jane head, I didn't care for much else about it. I got QC issues on my copy with the shoulder paint chipping right out of the box and having two left fists and no right fist, things I maybe would've noticed had it not been windowless, but that doesn't make much difference since I ordered it online.
I just found out that my favorite spiderman color pallete and over all aesthetics come from the scott johnson art. Buff dude, a little bit clearer blue and triangular like eyes.
At 1:18, you can see the deep cut on the real figure's abs where the ab crunch is, but not on the box image. There's a drop between the shoulders and traps on the figure, but there's no gap on the box image. And the real figure has hips sticking out a bit farther than the one on the box
I’ve always liked Spider-Man, Superman and Captain America with the lightest shade of blue possible in their uniforms. Dark blue just doesn’t do it for me.

It's ridiculous and anyone who backs it is part of the problem. It couldn't be a bigger rip off. It's just telling Hasbro they can do whatever they want if it's successful.
Would be neat if Spinneret had the lower ab crunch articulation...feels like people are settling with female MLs. Double elbows are nice but they're still pretty basic in articulation compared to male counterparts.
Strong recommendation from Anthony there. Now I feel a lot better about skipping on the Retro Spidey (not that I ever really liked it from the start). Already have one copy coming in the mail and probably going to go ahead and pick up another one of this 2-pack for a rainy day. Btw, that new female pinless buck is essentially the same between the Spinneret and Shriek. Except the upper torso/chest. Interesting how Anthony really disliked Shriek but liked this one. Maybe because Shriek is supposed to be more of a standard sleek female superhero/villain and MJ is supposed to have a more "realistic" proportion even on the comic pages, and this body reflects that more standard body type better. Btw planning to pick up the Silk/Doc Ock 2 pack, Anthony?
@@CyborgSodaCollects It's the AoA ROgue torso I think. THe extra peghole is for the collar piece. I don't like it either, but for some reason this torso piece has a longer neck compared with most other female upper torsos, so less lollipop. So I'm torn LOL.

The QC has been a bit lacking on this pack. My Spinneret has a small chunk out of her right breast. My set has a sloppy paint job on both figures and other knicks. Spidey's right butterfly doesn't move well. A plus is that the Spinneret body is taller than Shriek. Also, the plastic seems to be of higher quality than even their most recent releases. My Spidey doesn't have the bicep peg issue.
I saw the Amazing fantasy one and the images on the box looked amazing. Then i saw a review and I ended up not buying it 🙃 Hasbro is laughable these days. Mcfarlane DC direct is only 21€ and has amazing molds and a comic book. And the new Spider-Man costs 35€ for a very simple mold that looks significantly uglier than the artwork on the box
I'm glad that Anthony harped on the bicep joint. It's terrible! Not only can you see the pin, but the pin itself is kind of weak and rubbery, so you have to be conscious of that when moving the arms. Still a fantastic looking set, but that shit is weak.
I knew that this Spidey was an improvement over the Retro one, but I actually didn't realize there were this many changes. Not a perfect figure, but still really good for Hasbro Spider-Man. They just need to fix that neck, torso, and shoulders. Some people feel that this isn't the best Marvel Legends Spidey, however. Others believe that title goes to the new Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that this one does, but it can actually look up all the way and has a better V shape without looking shredded. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it compared to the Renew Your Vows Spidey here.
Have you seen the render they're including on the back of the animated Mystique box? Completely different figure and, of course, the rendered figure looks leagues better than the actual product in the box. Hasbro is claiming it's an honest mistake with the render artist (looks like the artist used the Sheik body) and I suppose it doesn't really matter for a line that is sold online only, but holy crap Hasbro, stop showing us how good they can be when you're giving us something worse. It would be like if every time you ate a sloppy, smushed, fast food burger you had to stare at a marketing image the whole time you were eating it.
I still prefer retro Spidey, I like the colors, eyes and logos better on the old one, and I'm happy with the articulation on it. As for proportions, it dosen't matter to me. I don't mind odd proportions, so that dosen't bother me.
Rather like the colors on this release. I read and collected during the mid 80s through the late 90s and this one seems the closest to the colors in Amazing spiderman and that one 61 issue run that was just called spiderman. The neck is what really really dulls my excitement for this figure...outside of that i got the poses i wanted from it.
I know you don’t always do comparison of previous versions of the character but I like how you did it with the retro. I would like more of it just to see your thoughts to show off if the new figure is better than the the previous versions.
I probably wouldn't hold on to my Retro Spidey by replacing it with this Spidey figure but goodness the pricing is killing me. Even the aftermarket prices with Spidey as a loose figure, it's way up there. As it stands, I'll just have to make do with what I have...as much as I agree that this Spidey figure is better.
I agree that is one of hasbros better spider man, this and the Black and Gold suit one are one of the better spiderman that come out from hasbro and maybe also the amazing fantasy one as well
This I my my opinion but the retro card is way better than the renew your vows I have both an honestly posing the retro card is much more fun an easier compare to the Renew your vows , the pinkies joint are way to tight even after Heating it up

I really hate this spiderman figure. Only reason why ppl are hyping this up is simply due to a simple piece of engineering that has been a thing for many companies.
Decided to skip this set and only get First Appearance Spidey instead. Love my Spidey red and black, and I hate the eyes shape on this one and how large the spider logo is.
I agree with all your critics regarding both characters (I also think the older Spider-Man is crap) and I would like to add that the shoulder joints in Spinneret shouldn't be red. Anthony what are your thoughts regarding the new Ghost Rider Haslab project, it's price and the fact that they are again releasing main characters as exclusives that are only officially accessible to the collectors who have an USA, UK or DE address? When I say "...that are only officially accessible..." I mean through the Hasbro Pulse for the regular retail price and not through scalpers be them official (by Zavvi for around $450 plus shipping and import taxes if you live outside of the UK) or unofficial (on the after market for around $1000 plus shipping and import taxes).
I think that if it reaches its goal, Hasbro will never charge a reasonable price again. I also think all the people simping for Hasbro are the reason we don't get good figures now. Anyone who supports this project is literally asking Hasbro to make inferior products for astronomical prices. They're the problem.
I agree with you 100% and I haven't been supporting any of the Haslab projects even though I would love to own a Sentinel and a Galactus of that size. They can't be more disrespectful to the collectors, specially the international ones, we should try to boycott not only the Haslab projects but every single one of the regular ML releases from now on until they learn their lesson.

The retro Spider-Man situation is weird because it’s based on an adaptation of Spider-Man that is known for having massive shoulders

Would be neat if Spinneret had the lower ab crunch articulation...feels like people are settling with female MLs. Double elbows are nice but they're still pretty basic in articulation compared to male counterparts.

Strong recommendation from Anthony there. Now I feel a lot better about skipping on the Retro Spidey (not that I ever really liked it from the start). Already have one copy coming in the mail and probably going to go ahead and pick up another one of this 2-pack for a rainy day.
Btw, that new female pinless buck is essentially the same between the Spinneret and Shriek. Except the upper torso/chest. Interesting how Anthony really disliked Shriek but liked this one. Maybe because Shriek is supposed to be more of a standard sleek female superhero/villain and MJ is supposed to have a more "realistic" proportion even on the comic pages, and this body reflects that more standard body type better.

Why they are still using the same torso, but all the limbs are new. Same holes on the back of every female with this body 😑
@@CyborgSodaCollects It's the AoA ROgue torso I think. THe extra peghole is for the collar piece. I don't like it either, but for some reason this torso piece has a longer neck compared with most other female upper torsos, so less lollipop. So I'm torn LOL.

The QC has been a bit lacking on this pack. My Spinneret has a small chunk out of her right breast. My set has a sloppy paint job on both figures and other knicks. Spidey's right butterfly doesn't move well. A plus is that the Spinneret body is taller than Shriek. Also, the plastic seems to be of higher quality than even their most recent releases. My Spidey doesn't have the bicep peg issue.
I saw the Amazing fantasy one and the images on the box looked amazing. Then i saw a review and I ended up not buying it 🙃
Hasbro is laughable these days. Mcfarlane DC direct is only 21€ and has amazing molds and a comic book. And the new Spider-Man costs 35€ for a very simple mold that looks significantly uglier than the artwork on the box
My favorite colors for a typical Peter Parker Spider-Man are red and blue.
I'm glad that Anthony harped on the bicep joint. It's terrible! Not only can you see the pin, but the pin itself is kind of weak and rubbery, so you have to be conscious of that when moving the arms. Still a fantastic looking set, but that shit is weak.
Yeah... I'll stick with the Mafex Spiderman. To me, it's the definitive Spiderman figure

Spidey's lower torso looks a little bit slimmer around the hip area, unless it's just my eyes. Or maybe the darker blue is slimming? Who knows.

I knew that this Spidey was an improvement over the Retro one, but I actually didn't realize there were this many changes. Not a perfect figure, but still really good for Hasbro Spider-Man. They just need to fix that neck, torso, and shoulders.
Some people feel that this isn't the best Marvel Legends Spidey, however. Others believe that title goes to the new Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that this one does, but it can actually look up all the way and has a better V shape without looking shredded. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it compared to the Renew Your Vows Spidey here.

Have you seen the render they're including on the back of the animated Mystique box? Completely different figure and, of course, the rendered figure looks leagues better than the actual product in the box. Hasbro is claiming it's an honest mistake with the render artist (looks like the artist used the Sheik body) and I suppose it doesn't really matter for a line that is sold online only, but holy crap Hasbro, stop showing us how good they can be when you're giving us something worse. It would be like if every time you ate a sloppy, smushed, fast food burger you had to stare at a marketing image the whole time you were eating it.

I still prefer retro Spidey, I like the colors, eyes and logos better on the old one, and I'm happy with the articulation on it. As for proportions, it dosen't matter to me. I don't mind odd proportions, so that dosen't bother me.

Rather like the colors on this release. I read and collected during the mid 80s through the late 90s and this one seems the closest to the colors in Amazing spiderman and that one 61 issue run that was just called spiderman. The neck is what really really dulls my excitement for this figure...outside of that i got the poses i wanted from it.

I know you don’t always do comparison of previous versions of the character but I like how you did it with the retro. I would like more of it just to see your thoughts to show off if the new figure is better than the the previous versions.
I probably wouldn't hold on to my Retro Spidey by replacing it with this Spidey figure but goodness the pricing is killing me. Even the aftermarket prices with Spidey as a loose figure, it's way up there.
As it stands, I'll just have to make do with what I have...as much as I agree that this Spidey figure is better.

This I my my opinion but the retro card is way better than the renew your vows I have both an honestly posing the retro card is much more fun an easier compare to the Renew your vows , the pinkies joint are way to tight even after Heating it up

I really hate this spiderman figure. Only reason why ppl are hyping this up is simply due to a simple piece of engineering that has been a thing for many companies.
Decided to skip this set and only get First Appearance Spidey instead. Love my Spidey red and black, and I hate the eyes shape on this one and how large the spider logo is.
After forgetting I paid 50 sumthin bucks for this I've been real happy with this one
I agree with all your critics regarding both characters (I also think the older Spider-Man is crap) and I would like to add that the shoulder joints in Spinneret shouldn't be red.

When I say "...that are only officially accessible..." I mean through the Hasbro Pulse for the regular retail price and not through scalpers be them official (by Zavvi for around $450 plus shipping and import taxes if you live outside of the UK) or unofficial (on the after market for around $1000 plus shipping and import taxes).
I think that if it reaches its goal, Hasbro will never charge a reasonable price again. I also think all the people simping for Hasbro are the reason we don't get good figures now. Anyone who supports this project is literally asking Hasbro to make inferior products for astronomical prices. They're the problem.
I agree with you 100% and I haven't been supporting any of the Haslab projects even though I would love to own a Sentinel and a Galactus of that size. They can't be more disrespectful to the collectors, specially the international ones, we should try to boycott not only the Haslab projects but every single one of the regular ML releases from now on until they learn their lesson.
