Thank you! I used this yesterday and today, and it went so well! At the end of every period, I heard middle schoolers saying, "I learned more Spanish today than all last year!" They were so excited that they understood me. My goal today was "I can understand my teacher when she speaks in Spanish" and I am thrilled to say goal accomplished!

Yes, cognate video please. This was very helpful for easing the back to school anxiety. I always have a nightmare the night before that I'm in class and unprepared and winging it and it ends in a disaster. Lol. So thanks for this.🙂

A very helpful video. Thank you so much. I am definitely going to try this activity. I teach virtually, so I would love hear your ideas on how to implement this in the virtual classroom environment. I have a few thoughts but would love to hear your suggestions. I would also love to see your video on how you introduce cognates.

As far as virtually, I think there's a lot that depends on the specifics of the environment - what's the tech set up like? can they see you and you can see them? just one way? do they have mics, too? how old are they/what level(s)?

This is awesome, thank you! I just purchased a couple of your Middle School products on TPT! I have a questions about these name cards, besides sports, do you do circling with the other topics (foods, places , etc.) on following days?? If so, can you share some more videos or ideas about how you do that with CI? Thanks!!
I also just kind of let the conversations go! sometimes students will volunteer info like "so and so doesn't play SPORT, but they play (video game, instrument, etc)" and then we spin off from there!
Otherwise I do circle other things, but I don't do card talk THAT frequently - sometimes to start a new unit and intro vocab!

I will be starting at a new school in a few weeks teaching Spanish in grades 4-8.
I would like to ask if you had a recommendation for a year long curriculum or units I could use in the lower grades that would enable students in 7th/8th grade to be well prepared for high school Spanish. Thank you in advance!
