  • Data shows more than 2,500 beach nourishment projects have cost more than $10 billion over the last century. Some experts believe the taxpayer money used for these projects could be better spent elsewhere.

      If thats the case. The earth decides the forest location not humans, so stop building homes and let the forest go where it goes. nature is to be tamed for civilization.

    As long as the local community is paying for it with Sales Tax or Property Tax, I don't mind, but if they are asking for Federal or State Funds that could be used to feed Children in Schools then I am completely against that.

    Beach Restoration happened every 3 years or so back in Floroda in the 1990s. Now it has to happen annually. The Feds should not be footing the bill 100% going forward. I have lived in Florida now for over 30 years.

    Seems like it's a basic math question. Do the nourishments produce substantially greater tax revenue than was spent.
    If so, then you do it.
    Keep in mind that some of these beachfront properties pay a lot of taxes every year. That's part of their public money too. And if they go away then they will no longer produce those taxes.
    However if the property is paying $100,000 a year in taxes and it's going to cost $150,000 a year to build a pretty beach that they consider their own private property, then I'd say no.
    Houston public funds to nurse the beach means those beaches are public property.

  • @easyb622
    @easyb622 3 месяца назад

    No because the beach erosion and flooding events is going to get even worse, so nobody should be living on the beach

  • @Xenon-4300
    @Xenon-4300 3 месяца назад

    This doesn't tell the whole story. Some of this money is recouperated in tax dollars if the homes are kept at higher value and the communities directly adjacent to the beaches are thriving. Residents are paying taxes on their homes and visitors are paying taxes on their trip to these beaches and the local businesses, who are also paying income taxes. If the beaches eroded away much of the beach economy woudn't exist and less tax dollars would be brought in. So, to an extent, beach nourishment pays for itself. As far as how much, I don't know.

    This shouldn’t be this hard to calculate. The guy at the end obviously has no idea what he’s talking about. There’s really no such thing as private property. If you don’t believe me stop paying your property taxes for two years… you will find out exactly who owns your property.
    Now. How much income does that property generate over a year? Is that number bigger than the cost to keep it out of the ocean? I don’t know but that’s how you get the answer. I can tell you what I do know… pouring money into slums has failed rate of about 100%

    I’m in Fort Lauderdale and I’m guessing here, but 10 years ago the city/county did a beach refurbishment, complete, county line to county line.
    I remember the costs ( please google it) being like $20 million. Half was agreeded upon local tax money and the rest was federal grants or something.
    Took 7 to 8 months. LOW impact, well thought out like a military drill 👍
    Made a HUGE improvement and I bet we gained 75/100 feet, most still there today.
    Also, we are completely tourist driven here. No beach no money no wife no kids no house no car no dog, never mind, sorry. To us it’s also necessary for lack of a better word.
    If all you owned was my opinion and a nickel, your net worth would be about 5 cents.
