Ah, such great information! Thank you. I'm just getting into cheese making and want to make a hard cheese but don't have money to waste. I'm so glad I found this video. Can't wait to check your other videos.
Very happy to find your channel. (thru the June Dairy Month 2023 collaboration) Getting ready to buy a new cheese press. Yes, I have one of the first ones you discussed. Time to upgrade! Actually tho, my first cheeses were made using a tincture press which was definitely a challenge. Only made 4” wheels but why buy a press if you don’t know whether or not you will enjoy cheese making. This is a 5 star discussion of presses and I am so grateful to you! Quite thorough with the pros and cons and your lively banter keeps the video from being too dry which can be as desirable as in cheeses! Looking forward to backtracking thru your wealth of cheese vids. - Joy
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and sharing your real experienced-based knowledge. Such a great summation of so many kinds of cheese presses based on personal experience. I've been trying to figure out if I should get a dutch press or not, and I think I've decided (yes, I'm going to get one).
Just getting started - great review of presses. I will end up making my own Dutch press with scrap hardwood from the bin. Can you recommend a books(s) on cheesemaking? Enjoyed the video that was very well done, thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge and experiences.
A lot of details, very nice. I am going to build a double lever press to get that 20 to 50 lbs pressure I see in the different cheeses. Even my present soft cheese I do with kefir needs to be pressed to get some of the whey out. Good video and keep up the good work !!!! Made me realise that the press without the springs that you have to keep adjusting the pressure.
Thanks for the detailed explanations! I'm looking for ways to make cheese without using plastic or teflon. I'd be happy to start with feta and brie. Do you have videos about using your ceramic form to make them? Do you have other recommendations for forms?
