How is this even a test of sailing skills? A boat "trips" over its own foils and sticks to the water like glue, and the other one just sails by to finish 2 km ahead. This is ridiculous.

I dont know much about sailing, but i think the rules have been the same for years, but the boat designs have changed over the years. Maybe change the rules to adapt for these boats? I don't know, just saying. NZ👍🇳🇿
The races have been brutal, but not exciting to watch at all. I would suggest a change in course design: instead of an up-down course, there should be gates that forces the boats to converge. After, this is match racing, boats should duel for position, not a flat out sprint.
Race 7 won by TR on merit, race 8 won by TR on the dice. The fact that Burling took less time to get up on the foils than Spithill and Bruni is only because after TR's wrong manoeuvre there was obviously a bit more wind.
I don't understand why they don't put both foils down when they're trying to get off the hull. It seems like the extra lift would come in handy. Once you're flying again, you can lift the weather foil.
Physics! Because it is a sailboat, not a motor boat. The force on the sail must be balanced by the leeward foil. If you increase the torque with the windward foil the boat capsizes
2nd foil down slows the boat, so it's a lose-lose situation I suppose... Several crew members going to the other side at this moment also pushed the hull down.
Race 8 was a farce, should have been called off not shortened!! You have the best teams in the world and both drop off foils because there is no wind to be had. What a joke. Who races without carrying a sail inventory for this very reason where conditions are constantly changing?! BTW, I'm not a supporter of either team only of sailboat racing and what we're watching is not drama or awesome. The machines are awesome and a marvel to watch sail but they don't race well. The racing is an utter clown show. If the boats don't fall off foils due to no wind then the winner at the start is the winner at the end. This is not sailboat racing that I'm used to and prefer.
Are you saying wind disappearing in a race doesn't happen in other classes? It was an amazing race because of that very fact, when has a low wind race been as dramatic.
@@americascup No, I'm saying other classes are prepared for such normal conditions with sail inventory or they postpone when conditions don't support performance. I don't think 2 boats taking turns sitting on their bottoms, limping up and down the race course is dramatic - it's the opposite in fact. It's an abject failure! It certainly does not live up to the expectations of such a prestigious race series as the AC.

I believe he's a kiwi and usually does commentating for rugby league. Have no idea why they chose to have him commentate for the Prada/Americas Cup regattas.
I think they should raise the wind threshold to a level at which a splashdown caused by a sailing error - which in any case is likely to lead to defeat unless the opposing team does similar - can be recovered from much more quickly. Seeing the boats sitting for minutes on end doesn't really make sense to the racing. It was a complete lottery that ETNZ's splashdown cost 4 mins and LRPP's 8 mins. This kind of change would only be fine-tuning, not totally upsetting to the racing or the sportsmanship. It would only be a small change and I can't see any downside.

Poor Italy. There isn't any justice in this flukey air racing with these freaky boats.
no red moon, but black moon, in this case, we are wery wery wery unluky poor luna rossa
Le mascerine la non servono
Pot luck racing pick better days!!
Kiwis were lucky today.
Kiwi boat appears to be good in low wind to. We thought it was just a high speed machine.
No lucky, but better sail today...
Darko simic what makes you say that.
@@jademoyles2470 NZ lost both starts and race 2 was already won by LR..Facial expression of Peter Burling is telling me that he was not completely happy with his todays performance. However,i am a NZ fan and i hope NZ will make it.
At this level you create your own luck. NZ has a faster boat even in low winds💪
Luna Lossa could defeat Team New Zealand today, but Luna Lossa have no lucky.
Skill , not luck
Off the foil off the boil ?
WTF is that shortening the course because of less wind, that’s bs. Raising a protest.
Races have always been shortened throughout the regatta.
Don't start complaining now.
@@brucefale6132 First time I’ve ever seen it done, and so quickly. It’s still bs. Let the teams try and figure it out. When they’re dead in the water slow then call it shorter.
@@GNX157 it's been done on numerous occasions during the world series and prada cup.
Foiled again!
This is the worst coverage of any AC ever. When do the sponsors sue for lost advertising revenue? Signing an exclusive air rights agreement (at the last minute) is nothing less than the AC pulling a bait and switch scandal!
ahaha luna rosa ahah anche quest'anno... bocca asciutta
Who is the play-by-play commentator, i.e. not Ken? The one with an Aussie/Kiwi accent? He is so incredibly histrionic, obvious, and annoying
I believe he's a kiwi and usually does commentating for rugby league.
Have no idea why they chose to have him commentate for the Prada/Americas Cup regattas.
So a Kiwi sells out to his home nation
wtf!!!
yep as they do he must of been worth a few bucks oh well so sad cya
Why are they racing in such soft winds god it’s boring!!
Did you watch it? Both races were anything but boring
Just turn on the wind machine...
@@stevelangridge1755 it's also down to boat setup and where each team chose to be agressive with winds as they were
These boats generate three times the wind speed , it looks slow but they are legit going so fast , one mistake can coast you 100 m
Sport di CULO....E i kiwi....TANTO culo
Ma il timoniere è Neozelandese??? Sono 4 volte che sbaglia??
Australiano
How incredibly boring. Don't think I'll be watching the rest of this shambles of a 'race' series.
😅🤣😆
UK trolls are so funny.
@@Dodiwho1 Especially when they lost to Luna Rossa.
Those boats are ridiculous! They look like half Kat and half sub ,that float off the water, the Americas cup is supposed to be classic yachts! It's no wonder us Aussies and others arnt botherd with it anymore !!
It hasn't been a "classic" yacht race for decades. Progress in design/technology put paid to that.
Asides from 83.
You aussies haven't had a lot of success with the classic yacht racing in the past anyway.
@@mitchand9 hey hey we've won the Sydney to Hobart a squillion times 😀😀😀😀😀
It only took 6 races of nothing happening for a pass in race 7...
International 12m are more exciting
then don't watch...
