It does because there's money attached to it once you decide to divorce or one dies. Even out of community of property, You still become liable for the other person's debts to an extent. So no, it's not just a paper, it's a legally binding contract that is a headache to get out of.

This is the most destructive tv show I have ever seen in my life. And it is destroying family and completely annihilating the black culture, customs and tradition. It also forces a lot of young men into marriages that they are not ready for. Most young men agree to these shenanigans for the sole reason of not wanting to hurt and disappoint their partners. It is also shocking to see how the "black family and society" have succumbed to this trash. Just my personal opinion. Bigup to this guy for doing what's right.
