Robotaxi's aren't delayed, they were never going to happen. Nobody said there was going to be this grand prototype on 8/8... almost nothing has been said about what was actually supposed to be there anyway. Here is the deal, we will know Robotaxis are close three different ways, and all 3 of them must be true.
1. Tesla gives you instructions that you can now get into the back seat and take a nap while the car drives. FSD for current Tesla owners must be fully solved, ie.. Tesla tells you that you don't need to be in the drivers seat anymore. The fact that Tesla tells you that you have to be in the drivers seat, but undistracted, and have your hands ready to take over the wheel means you are years away from the tech being good enough for a Robotaxi
2. Registrations for approval in major markets in the USA. This process took a year for Waymo. This requires Tesla to file publicly available paperwork, for the cities and counties to approve that paperwork at meetings. This is all public, and the process is long. If Tesla submits paperwork, it would make national news, and there would still be a year before it was approved in any market
3. Insurance discussions and major insurance companies making deals with Tesla. Waymo provides liability for their robotaxis. Tesla does not currently provide their own insurance that covers accidents under FSD. Does anyone really think insurance companies are going to cover your car if you send it out alone to be a robotaxi and have strangers randomly in your car. There has been no discussion at all from Tesla at all about how liability insurance is going to work, and there certainly not any major insurance companies jumping at the chance to get involved, they barely tolerate Uber drivers
Anyone that thinks just going from FSD 12.3 to FSD 12.5 is going to suddenly make Robotaxis happen is kidding themselves.

No problem with the delay, now the presentstion will be even better and no other is close to Tesla.
The software wont be ready for august or october so it was always just going to be the showing of the physical car so doesn't really make a difference. But they might try to get the software good enough for a geofenced practical demo in some urban landscape and if so that would generate some hype.
I'd rather they delay it so that it's as amazing of a reveal as possible.

Morgan Stanley just said that the Megapack factory coming on line in Lathrope will procduce 10,000 megapacks/yr, and that would produce the operating income equivalent to 1,000,000 cars. A new Megapack factory is being built in China. Some are saying Tesla will have 4 Megapack factories by 2030, the equivalent op income of 4,000,000 cars.
people also say tesla will sell 20million cars a year in 2030. it sells 2 million atm. eager to wait for 2030.
tesla's entire supply chain is built around Lithium, while everyone else is already moving to Sodium. Hell, BYD already has a car out with a sodium battery. Grid tied storage will all be Sodium within 2 years, it is half the price as Lithium and doesn't need china supply chains. Tesla is building infrastructure that will be obsolete before it is finished.

Even if you take all the Uber $40billion total 2023 bookings and add it to TSLA $97billion revenue, that is merely 50% increase in revenue. What is all this FSD noise?

This is actually a very unique moment. Bloomberg seems to firmly believe their sources telling them about a delay to October while so far Elon and Tesla haven’t said anything to confirm or deny. Seems to me if Tesla says yes, there’s a delay then Bloomberg wins big while if Tesla actually reveals their Robotaxi as announced on 8/8 this year, then Bloomberg gets crushed. If I were Elon I would definitely not throw away a golden opportunity to show up legacy media.
