Wearing jobmasters right now. They were my every day boots as a forester for years. Transitioned to working as a mechanic where I wore them every day for another few years. 11 years of wear and I finally had them rebuilt. These boots are worth every penny. The only reason I don't wear them much these days is I am now required to have polished toes at my new position at work; I went with rough out vamp & counter on the rebuild.
I went hunting in the beginning of October this year and came home with soaking wet socks. I was not having it, I showed up at Baker's boots and they helped me find the perfect boot. Great guys very knowledgeable and friendly.
I ordered a pair of Wescos back in April. Legitimately everyday as I drive home from work I have my fingers crossed that they are sitting on my front porch. I’m very excited to get mine.

KEEP IT UP CARL ur doin a fantastic job🤙🏼
I agree with everything you said here. I have a pair of British Tan Jobmasters and White Bounty Hunters in the fancy Wickett & Craig leather. I would still say that the Wesco is a nicer boot overall; I'm STILL breaking in the Bounty Hunter, whereas the Jobmaster was good to go about a week after minimal wear.
@@CarlMurawski FWIW, Apparently Bakers is going to have their Black Friday sale in the next couple of weeks for Wesco. Definitely eyeballing a pair of MTO Boss boots.
Thanks Carl - another terrific video. I have the same dilemma with several of my high end boots - way too nice to wear in the field. Several times over the years I've bought a second pair of a work boot to have a field boot and a pair to kick around town in. On a different note - I watched several of your older videos the past week. You're knocking it out of the park as your production skills, lighting, music, staging, etc has gained experience. Good on you!
Can’t say enough good things about Baker’s Boots. I’m lucky enough to live an hour away and as a result they get a lot of my attention. The Wescos are awesome boots. Been excited for this review since you mentioned ordering them.
Those boots with the brown thinner stiching and the contrasting white thicker stich pattern look amazing. You're right these do look a notch above the Nick's boots. I'm inclined to get myself a pair of Jobmaster boots just to wear them casually. The value for money seems incredible too. Once again really good one Carl , this review helped answer my questions and doubts about Wesco boots.
@@jimboach In my opinion the Wesco Jobmasters have a less pronounced arch support than the 55 last in the White's semi dress boots that I own. However I find both provide all day comfort if you are on your feet all day - they just feel different when you first put them on. Had mine for years and would highly recommend both brands.
I have JM in HH tea core with brown stitching. I had the same reaction when I unboxed them. Freaking pieces of art. Sizing to me was a 1/2 size smaller than my Whites BH but Chris stretched them a1/2 size and all is good. Wes I finishing is more refined than Whites, but the arch ease in Whites is so awesome. Whites seems to lock my heel and foot better in the boot. Both are great and you’re dead on with Bakers. They’re great doing business with and paid the shipping costs to have Wesco stretch my boots. No brained.
I went back and fourth on these or the Nicks Builder Pros, went with the 1964 Nicks but think I’ll be getting these as soon as the Holidays are over. I love the Redwood color, and think I’ll go with roughout. Thanks for this video Carl!!!!
Yeah, I have two Wesco pairs in the works through Standard & Strange and already got a pair of the Daybreakers and they are simply amazing. However, I will still be getting some Nick's soon... contemplating the Manitou.
I've got a pair of semi-lace to toe jobmasters that I've put probably close to a thousand miles on, and they're still going strong. As a shorter guy who takes a 12.5 EEE, I've also noticed the added benefit of the cut of these boots makes my gigantic feet look smaller for some reason.
Hey Carl, thanks for the review of the Wesco boots. When comparing to the White's an important thing is that Wesco does not have the high arch. So more comfortable in fit for the more flat feet guys and girls.
WOW Carl! Those are some sweet looking boots!! I wasn't sure about that white kevlar contrast stitching from yesterday's thumbnail. But after seeing this vid...good choice. I like the shape and design of these Wescos better than the Nicks. Nicks toe box looks a little wide to me, and I don't like how Nicks look after they've been worn a lot. Shorter break-in. Cheaper price. Great looks. Lots of customization options. Wesco looks like the way to go. Now I just need to identify a problem to justify buying a pair of these! Thanks for a great video with lots of good, clear views of these boots. Stay healthy, Carl!
I have a pair of wescos and love them I also have 4 pair of whites never thought that they would compete with them but I was really surprised will buy another pair
I wore Wesco caulk boots for years when I was a logger. Never had a problem with them and was always comfortable. Ironically, today I live about 30 miles from the factory here in Oregon. Nice hearing about local products. Why not review something from Columbia Sportswear?
I know a Lewis lineman who has been wearing the same Wesco 16" boots for his entire 30 year career because he religiously takes care of them. Mad props to him for dedication to his gear.

Man, everyone at Bakers is cool! I’ve ordered all my new boots from them for years now 👍🤘 Recently got both wesco mister lous in brown and black horsehide, just damn beautiful
@murawski I've 2 ideas for videos for you: i) Talk about diminishing returns of cost v. durability. At some points, you can't make the boot thicker, add more stitching, more welting, or add another sole. Thus, money dumped into the boots becomes less 'available' in the performance/durability of the boot. ii) Talk about a trend I've seen with friends, on social, and you: putting up with enormous discomfort just to wear a particular boot. Example: that time you spent 90mins, using a grocery bag, and a 24" shoe horn, to get into a Lofgren Engineer boot - why? Why should it be work? It's like putting up with an abusive girlfriend because she's hot.
They look much nicer than the photos on their site. I've looked at them a bit but I'm pretty sold on the nicks wedge worker. Can't justify getting them any time soon but they're on my list.
Hi Carl you should try JK Boots out of Spokane. They would finish your trifecta! Also bought 3 pair of texture boots this weekend. Have a look at ortodoux boots from Indonesia as well. Thanks for introducing me to kreosote boots too. Spoke with Gabbard today and I’m buying two pairs. Keep doing what you’re doing because you’re informed and knowledgeable regarding footwear and workwear. I’m a tin knocker by trade and use your information on products regularly. Keep it up buddy. Great job!!!

I've always bought American made workbooks. Danners, Whites, and Wesco boots. I have a wide foot, 12 EE, and Wesco boots are perfect. I live my Job masters, and my hiking Danners we're good. But the last pair of Danners I bought were pure garbage with thin, brittle leather. The eyelets pulled out, the toes wore through in six months.
Definitely a timberland guy but you’ve really made me contemplate a pair of nicks or wescos. Being from Idaho makes me love these northwestern guys even more
Honestly, I was never much into boots. I watched most of your boot reviews, but I guess I didn't feel like something for me. This review however, man, this really made me want to buy a pair of these awesome boots! Great video, Carl! Excited to see more.
I know they're backed up on orders right now, but they need to hire some marketing people away from Nicks. It looks like they're making a competitive product to theirs, but Nicks is really killing it with marketing. I had never even heard of Wesco boots until today, but I've seen a lot of marketing for Nicks.
I agree. If they stepped up that game I have no doubt they'd be far more popular. Its ridiculous that it took me this long to finally wake up to the brand.
I have lots of Wesco's, Nick's and White's. They are all wonderful. There are differences, but overall they are very similar. For not much more than Red Wing Iron Rangers, they are vastly better. Someone who has worn boots like Wolverine 1000 Mile, Thursdays, etc. will have a hard time understanding how different they are. For one, they are much, much heavier. These semi-lace-to-toes are pretty rare. Most people go with either the regular Jobmaster, or the full lace-to-toe model. But they look great. I'd have a hard time mucking them up too!
I’ve been wearing wesco sense the late 90s. Highliner voltfoe and jobmaster But the icing is the romeos when you get home. They are the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever had. Get your self a pair you we’ll never by sneakers again promise
You ain't kidding about that wait time. I ordered a custom boss in brown with the western toe (hard to find examples of how that looks but I took the chance since I like a slightly pointy toe), order was placed July 10th 2021, and I'm told they were cut this month March 2022 and should ship next month. I'm super hyped about it.
Thanks. On a related note… I was on a job site where a fellow worker drove his brand new Toyota pickup onto to the job. Many of us noticed this. He got out a hammer and big screwdriver from his tool box. He opened the tailgate and put a hole through the bed of the new truck. We all stood there with our mouths open. He turned and said out loud “There, now I won’t worry about getting a scratch on it.” True story…
I have two pairs of Wesco highliners one semi lace to toe with 100 sole and a lace to toe with 430 soles both 10" I found the break in on both to be pretty rough probably 150 hours or more. They're very heavy duty, definitely not something you want to take a stroll around the neighborhood with.
Slightly different experience with my Wesco Voltfoes- had been a using Viberg Contractors for about a year when I got the Wescos, and compared to those Vibergs, they were a touch smaller and slightly stiffer. Couldn't replace the insole with something more comfy, couldn't wear thicker socks, sucked if your feet swelled up after a long day. And the high composite toe and straight heels got caught on everything. Still an insane pair of boots, but never supplanted the Vibergs. Can't say if that was a one off, but I'd probably try Nick's next, if I ever needed more boots (I clearly don't).
My Jobmasters leaked the first day I wore them in an Oregon fall. “Warranty” was nonexistent. Leather cracked and shrunk beyond belief within a year. Maybe I got a bad pair but the customer service in fixing the issue was not there. Just my experience
@@CarlMurawski I just got my Wesco job master and two eyelets where not in properly and one even pulled out! And the heals on both boots are coming apart.. my first experience with Wesco. And I’m talking to them now about fixing the issue. I’m in Austraila so will have to send the overseas.. that’s what I’m pissed about haha.
had my 2prs since 2009 2017 sent in for resoles. came back rebuilt had to argue about the cost also put the wrong soles on and put toe caps on for whatever reason I'm going with JK for my next 2 prs (corks)
Big fan of Vibram 100 soles. Sticky on wet or icy rocks, fairly long-wearing, etc. Not that Vibram only makes good soles - their “Portland” sole provided with the White’s “Standard Hiker” are long-wearing, hard, slippery when wet, and an altogether bad idea off the sidewalk. Any chance you’ll review the various soles commonly available on work boots anytime soon?
I have a pair of boots with v100, I found that they terrible on wet smooth surfaces like concrete and tile. I wore them to work once and felt like I was on ice skates. I've been told the 430 mini is better but I'm not very sure, a video on the subject would be much appreciated.
@@rpkiller2489 I have the mini-lugs on a couple pairs of White’s packers, and they’re easy to scrape manure off of, but are like skis on snow. I wear packers more often than the Cruisers, and have yet to replace the soles or heels. Also, the minis are better for dancing!
@@rpkiller2489 My experience is different. Winter trails in the Black Hills are mostly snow or ice covered granite rocks. The relatively soft soles of the V100 stick well. The only better soles that I’ve used are the Vibram Sierra Soles, but those have built-in heels and don’t work on my current 6” Smokejumpers. Actually, I have no idea how anything works on slick tile or concrete.
Carl, everyone advises always using the kilties. That makes sense if you're really beating the heck out of them on a job site. But if you're only wearing them casually, how important do you think it is to use them? Generally, I think the boots look better without kilties (with a few exceptions). Appreciate your thoughts.
I have had three pairs of wesco job masters, worn out rebuilt and worn out again two of the three pair, and I have had two pair of white smoke jumper, that’s what I am currently using intell my next pair of wescos get built and I am really missing the wescos, the white smoke jumpers feel like having skis on compared to the wescos. I am a big fan of the steel shank.
Well since you asked what i think.. what i think is... dang man I’ve been trying to decide what top of the line work boot I’m gonna get all summer and then you throw this on me.. gee thanks 😂 awesome review as usual though. A video idea absolute best boot for each trade or field. I’m a pipe layer/ equipment operator/ do asphalt work from time to time and welding/ metal work I’m leaning towards the Builder Pros as the seem to be the best all around work boot ever made but I’d like your opinion
Good idea! It’s so tricky to figuratively put myself in someone else’s shoes, I can only confidently say what an electrician would want. Maybe a cool way to talk to other people in the trades.
The don't charge 100$ to take your foot measurements, they charge 100$ to take the measurements that you send them and build a custom last for your feet. They keep these customization pieces on file for your next purchase. Seems like a lot of money but that is a lot of extra work added to the process and if you have oddly shaped or sized feet, or if your right and left are different sizes it is totally worth it.
Is a review of JK boots ever gonna happen Carl? I recently bought some of their boots and man they are nice but I don't have any other boot yo compare it to than red wings and thorougoods.
Love my jobmasters and currently breaking in my builder pros. Over all fit and finish is far superior on the wesco, not that the nicks is bad.I am considering a pair of jk boots as they are available in an insulated version which would be awesome for winter in New England.
I was not going to ask the same thing, because how many pairs does a guy need to get the job done? But JK vs Wesco is really the only comparison I'm interested in honestly.
Are wesco sizing the same as nicks and whites? I bought a used pair of jobmaster on eBay and have a couple pair of nicks on backorder. Thanks brother love your channel. It’s helped me decide on getting quality boots for a change and now I’m addicted to quality boots.
$18 in today's money is $327 You also have to remember that back then people weren't paying all these taxes. So if you take the theft called taxes into consideration it would appear that they haven't really gone up in price.
Taxes feel like theft until you have to build your own highway or put out your own house fire. Ayn Rand was a miserable selfish cunt who died on welfare.
I gotta cave to the price on these. I just switched professions to full time tree work and its new boot season, but i cant find any in my size, so I guess custom it is. Haha
The best work wear is always to good to actually work in. People ask me why I’m so dressed up? Then I point out that I’m wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, and work boots. Nothing fancy at all. It’s the quality of the items. Most don’t realize that you could be wearing over $2,000 worth of clothing, and look like your elementary schools maintenance man.
Hi Carl !!! I'm a 9.5 US sneakers and 8.5D in Red wing Moc toes and iron rangers, which size do you think i should go with a Wesco jobmaster 65 last... From different retailers i had been adviced to go 0.5 down from sneakers, 0.5 down from Iron Rangers, even 1.5 down from brannock, im totally lost XD
I don't know about that "no lineman's patch" thing.... how is that any different from "you don't need $600 work boots for *your* job"? PNW boot are generally uncomfortable and hard to break in, right? Aren't most of them overkill for 75% of people who buy them? And what about toe caps? If you don't regularly wear through your toes, then you don't "need" an extra layer of leather, poser. "You don't *need* it and *I* don't like it, so don't buy it" is a take, that's for sure. Glad I got to hear it.
This is a slippery slope. Do you NEED denim? After all, it was intended as workwear. Some things get adopted into culture and fashion, look at the history of the necktie for example. To use your example, cap toe boots and shoes have become decorative with broguing and embellishments on fine dress shoes from John Lobb or Whites Smokejumpers. Other things are meant for a purpose and look silly in my opinion when used out of context. Spurs on your heel are totally fine if you're riding a horse, but look odd if you're working a cash register since they serve no purpose and actually cause more discomfort and hazard. The same can be said for a lineman patch. It makes the boots less flexible and easy to wear, but if you're wearing gaffs or doing line work they are a worthwhile tradeoff.
A ribbed steel shank? Might have to buy a pair for my pleasure.
Lol. Enjoy your boots, my friend. 👍

He opened the tailgate and put a hole through the bed of the new truck. We all stood there with our mouths open. He turned and said out loud “There, now I won’t worry about getting a scratch on it.”
True story…
Just ordered one pair online
I love my Jobmasters! I can't wait to see your thoughts in a follow up review!
The finishing on these is incredible. Seriously excited to get some ...
Best I’ve seen among the PNW makers!
These look absolutely gorgeous!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hahaha unless you're looking for downed power lines!
They look very close to a vintage set of iron age logger boots I have. The 1st pair i bought was too nice to work in and i found a 2nd set onnline.
Nice boots and the review was great. I have started going for quality rather than quantity..
Good choice!
My Jobmasters leaked the first day I wore them in an Oregon fall. “Warranty” was nonexistent. Leather cracked and shrunk beyond belief within a year. Maybe I got a bad pair but the customer service in fixing the issue was not there. Just my experience
Wow, very interesting. That's the first ding against Wesco I've ever heard.
Great history/story on Wesco, thanks for sharing that with us
had my 2prs since 2009 2017 sent in for resoles. came back rebuilt had to argue about the cost
also put the wrong soles on and put toe caps on for whatever reason
I'm going with JK for my next 2 prs (corks)
Big fan of Vibram 100 soles. Sticky on wet or icy rocks, fairly long-wearing, etc. Not that Vibram only makes good soles - their “Portland” sole provided with the White’s “Standard Hiker” are long-wearing, hard, slippery when wet, and an altogether bad idea off the sidewalk. Any chance you’ll review the various soles commonly available on work boots anytime soon?
I've been considering a "traction test" of sorts with this in mind actually.
@@donnelson4140 I mean the 100's are gonna dig into the snow but there not gonna dig into a wet concrete floor 😄
Just ordered a pair of Boss boots to go with my Jobmasters.
Is the arch support comparable to the 55 last from Nicks, or is this a considerably higher arched boot?
It’s very similar
I would call it flat no defined arch like Nick's or White's
Very close I'd say. Not EXACTLY the same but close.
Ridiculously cool looking boots.
i almost bought WESCO, but they charged like 40$ to change stitch color and 100$ to take your foot measurements... Bought from Spokane instead.
Yeah, those customizations certainly add up!
Check out viberg and Dayton boots, they are Canadian logging boot companies
Most definitely will!
Good timing on video. Wait time is now 6 months though.
Still totally worth it in my opinion!
@@CarlMurawski yes I agree thus will try to order again. I am hoping that they get caught up in few months.
Great looking Boots 🥾!
They are!
Hey Carl, have you ever considered reviewing the Alden Indy? I’d be interested to hear your opinion on them.
trying to decide between these and a nick's builder pro 67. any suggestions?
I really like the stitching, if Nick’s had some contrast stitching then 😮💨
That would be awesome!
Woah I was just looking at Wesco Johannes boots, my man Carl’s always on time….unlike some….Waiting 7-8 months for boots…..
LETS GO BRANDON!!!
So Biden was in office for what 8 months and HE'S responsible for the Wesco backlog, might as well say "thanks a lot Obama"
Highly recommend the mr lou!
Maybe sometime soon!
Scappoose, Oregon is my hometown.
Are wesco sizing the same as nicks and whites? I bought a used pair of jobmaster on eBay and have a couple pair of nicks on backorder. Thanks brother love your channel. It’s helped me decide on getting quality boots for a change and now I’m addicted to quality boots.
Surprised you went smooth out on a workboot. Would you be more willing to beat up some roughouts?
Yes, probably so! I have two roughout work boots though, so these just seemed appropriate.
Best looking boots.
$18 in today's money is $327
You also have to remember that back then people weren't paying all these taxes. So if you take the theft called taxes into consideration it would appear that they haven't really gone up in price.
Very true! Its crazy how inflation skews perception.
Taxes feel like theft until you have to build your own highway or put out your own house fire. Ayn Rand was a miserable selfish cunt who died on welfare.
How long is the wait on stock boots?
I gotta cave to the price on these. I just switched professions to full time tree work and its new boot season, but i cant find any in my size, so I guess custom it is. Haha
The best work wear is always to good to actually work in. People ask me why I’m so dressed up? Then I point out that I’m wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, and work boots. Nothing fancy at all. It’s the quality of the items. Most don’t realize that you could be wearing over $2,000 worth of clothing, and look like your elementary schools maintenance man.
I want a pair of Wesco axebreaker boots so bad.
Would you say the fit is the same as Nicks/Whites? Cheers
How are they doing a year later
Do these come in narrow widths?
>Too Nice For Work? exactly my thoughts
Just too nice!
May need to get me some Romeos.
Hey carl, great review and love these boots. I was hoping you could share what waffle knit shirt that is you are wearing? Thanks!
Thanks man! That shirt is fantastic and you can get it here: bit.ly/3nTvWHw
The boss is dope too
What about Nick's Packer boots?
I think I want to try the Hoffmans packer boots soon.
They should name this Wesco Dripmaster
I bet the next wesco is going to be Lou!:)
I think you're right!
.
If you think those are too nice to work in, you should see what FRANK'S BOOTS offers!
Mark Furhman is a subscriber? I guess he's been keeping a low profile since the OJ trial.
Lol! He appreciates a good pair of boots.
Those look like jack Skellington favorite boot, is this a Halloween 🎃 joke or something I'm missing?
Lol! Not intentionally!
I wear wesco timber boots
right now they are 12 months
