I woke up just before the quake hit my parakeets were making a ton of noise and jumped out their cage and ran under the dining table..and then it shook hard for a while. They somehow knew. I lived pretty far from the epicenter, but still felt the strong shaking.
I Was living in Huntington Beach when this quake happened. I jumped out of bed so fast. The only damage we had was a water pipe on the water heater. But I worked in Pasadena. I managed a Foot Locker. When I got to my store, every pair of shoes in my stock room were on the floor with the majority out of the boxes. My ceiling (t-bar system) was also on the floor. Our counter weighed about 2000 lbs. It moved 3 feet. The Mall was closed for days with some stores closed for weeks.
Interestingly enough, I was also in the Northridge quake. I was working for a banking company and they sent me down there for training. It was early morning & I was dead asleep-I woke up to people screaming in the courtyard-and I thought they had put me in a hotel that was right next to a train station. It was so loud and shaking, the sound is what you don’t forget. I’m glad I didn’t know what I was going through at the time because it really freaked me out after I found out. When the one hit Seattle I knew exactly what it was….
I was born in 1995, so I was unaware about this but I remember my families talked about that day. My Dad use to deliver newspapers early in the morning, he sprained himself during that earthquake.
@@GH_Channel imagination and reality are two different things. Like, I thought I knew what negative 0 temps felt like until I actually felt it. No comparison.
I just started watching this and then realized today is the 30th anniversary of that scary night. I was 7 years old and remember every moment of the earthquake.
Didn’t they offer them a large amount of money if they could get it fixed in like a certain number of months and then also offer them a large bonus sum for each day they beat the deadline by, and they wound up fixing it unbelievably quickly? I can’t remember the specifics but I heard someone talk about this once
It was a crazy night. Fun fact when the earthquake hit and knocked the power grid off at night people saw the milky way for the first time and started freaking out calling the police
I was 4 when this happened. Still remember my dad grabbing me from my bed and carrying my brother and I downstairs underneath a large wooden desk he owned. Startling thing to wake up to an earthquake. Thankfully nothing happened, usually nothing does.
That 6.6 - 6.8? Quake was so different and Severe....In the aftermath studies and investigations, The Structural Building and Welding Codes were changed...for a stronger design.

I was living in the greater Los Angeles region that day (in my childhood home) and can still remember being woken up by the violent shaking.
Today, 30 years ago at 4:31 a.m. will be the 30th anniversary of the Northridge quake. Those 41 seconds seemed like an eternity.
Yeah my mom just told me about it and I was just a stupid kid at the time.

People in LA today who did not experience this have NO IDEA how violently it shook. So scary.
It was a 6.7 magnitude earthquake, pretty easy to imagine at least for me.

I was 5 months old when this happened. At that time, I was living in Canoga Park.
What was your experience like?
So you must felt it worse because you're close by Northridge
It was early morning after I needed to go to work in Payless Shoes; now closed all stores, it was scary the after shocks the racks moved intensely.
imagine this was just a 6.4 earthquake, chile had a 8.8 in 2010, imagine a 8.8 in california, hope that even never happens to the us
The San Andreas can't produce anything bigger than an 8.0 from what I learned.
It was 7.1 initial reports aren't always correct.
I lived 100 miles north in Santa Barbara and it rolled me out of bed onto the floor.
Goddamn lol

I had a carne asada burrito the day before that quake and was living in Duluth.
I've never heard of this one before now. Wow.
It was a crazy day.
Yep. I was 6 and still remember like it was yesterday.
How long did it take to rebuild the roads.

We had a big one in 1971 also.

Everything looked better then.
I was working at a Long's Drug store on Camden and Kooser Ave in San Jose, just 7 miles north of the epicenter. I thought I was a gonner.

Looks like Mexico City quake
Due to Unleaded Gasoline and stronger emissions standards....That "SMOG"..Is no longer around...better go to chyna or India to find it..
