- "A Conversation with Rick Archer of Buddha at the Gas Pump - My Spiritual Awakening!" was presented to Spiritual Awakenings International on May 18, 2024. Rick Archer shares his personal spiritual journey from childhood, through the turbulent 1960's, his introduction to Transcendental Meditation, to the launch of his popular podcast on spirituality, Buddha at the Gas Pump.
Rick shares his spiritual awakening story, starting with his complicated family life, learning to meditate in 1968, and his years as a Transcendental Meditation teacher. He describes his inspiration and motivation to start Buddha at the Gas Pump in 2009. He also shares insights and experiences he’s had while doing this now very popular spiritually focused podcast.
Rick also talks about the importance of ethical behavior for spiritual leaders and the Association for Spiritual Integrity, which he helped found.
*****
Rick Archer is the creator and host of the interview show Buddha at the Gas Pump. Since the Fall of 2009, he has since interviewed over 700 “spiritually awakening” people, from the well-known to the unknown, from a variety of backgrounds and traditions.
Rick learned Transcendental Meditation when he was 18, was trained by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as a TM teacher in 1970, and served in that capacity for 25 years, teaching hundreds of people, lecturing around the world, helping to train TM teachers, and serving at the international headquarters of the TM organization in Switzerland. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vedic Studies from Maharishi International University.
Rick is no longer associated with the TM organization, having become too eclectic and independent in his perspective to affiliate exclusively with any organization. He is a founder and advisor of the Association for Spiritual Integrity.

I really appreciate him so much, in nuanced ways. Too many things to thank him for.
Thank you. 🙏
I was deeply moved hearing Rick Archer's story. I've been watching Buddha at the Gas Pump for some time and I will enjoy it now even more now.
He speaks such spiritual truth. I love this Guy! He is a natural teacher and intuitive. Thank you!
Thank you both gratefully for this wonderful interview! Nice to hear mister BatGap stories! ❤
Hi Rick! Thanks for this interview. As a 66 year old there was a lot that I could relate to. I appreciate the spiritual qualities that you share; inclusion, non-judgement, respect, and remaining balanced in all levels of reality. I think these are essential qualities of collaborative learning. All the best to you!
Rick I’ve been listening to you podcast for at least seven years! Thank you all you have done and still doing. I hope Irene is feeling better.
I have been listening to Buddha at the gas pump for many years. I loved hearing Rick tell his story! He is intelligent in so many ways and his sense of ethics is so inspiring....never stiff or dogmatic. ❤
Uplifting and Interesting thank you Rick for everything you are and do
So great to hear Rick's story!
Absolutely brilliant-thank you! Could have listened to Rick for hours. I've always thought on BGAP that he should be the one being interviewed, thank you for granting that wish and thank you Rick for all you've done.
Wonderful interview, Rick. I'm so glad you could share your story from the start, present and the to be continued. Everywhere, nowhere, and here....that's it! Sending love to you and Irene.
Hey, Rick so amazing, finally after 700+++ interviews with so many remarkable personalities, you have your "coming out"
I'm about your age and started my spiritual journey with "Carlos Castaneda" and "Shree Rajneesh"
Intellectually I worked my way through Ken Wilber and various wisdom books.
To actually live all those beneficial values and emulgate them as a personal ethical moral inclination
is the real deal.
As we are all Divine I can relate mostly to the notion "God is work (creativity) in progress" - rooting in earth stretching into the vast heavenly realm.
Heartfelt gratitude and blessings
from Germany
Amazing testimony Rick ❤for me what did it, was "The Power of Now "given by my son Jerome when I turned 60
Once I was a Pentecostal and experienced "The baptism of the Spirit "received the gift of tongues which has not disappeared despite my shift in spirituality .
Spirit speaks to us in many different ways🙏
Great interview. Thanks Yvonne and thanks Rick.
Glad you enjoyed it!🙏❤️
Great human
I love this interview. I love Ricks Channel and to learn more about his journey is amazing. Thank you very much. ❤
I love you two. Both important beings in my spiritual journey. Thank you 🙏❤️
We too are delighted to watch you and Rick🙏🌺🙏
Wonderful interview.
So good. Thank you!
Thank you both. This was so honest and helpful. 🙏
Our pleasure!🙏🥰
I really feel oneness with you ❤
Of all the interviews I have heard of Ricks, Tony Parsons is the one that stood out for me. I have no doubt that for others it may be someone else.
Dear Rich, please you give a simple general lesson on how to practice TM. This is much appreciated. Thank you❤
I love the way Rick rattles them in his interviews
Some interviews it's hard to make out who is the enlightened one
Hi from Norway ❤
In Adyashanti's last video, he said he limits his manifestion to getting good parking places! Lol, a typical human lifetime spent as a soul in the physical world will take it's toll, especially if you live as a spirtual teacher in the West. From my pov, all is forgiven!
Rick, thank you indeed for the news on Maharishi's apparent sex-life. From what i have seen, he spent a lifetime encouraging his followers to call him the "Master" or "Great Teacher", but at the same time, from what you tell us, he was also creating a giant spiritual rug-pull. Ha-ha. That's very funny. And very instructive.
I wouldn't be surprised if he knew exactly what he was doing. All external authorities must sooner or later be given up (the sooner the better if you ask me), and it's my guess he was merely helping that process along by introducing some serious disillusionment to those in need of it. What more can be said to any seeker than: "Call No Man Master".
who where the people he mentioned about doing other spiritual interviews?
@@MB-nq6ew thanks for your reply but that doesnt answer the question
