would be nice to see a follow up video, would love to see what this beauty looks like now?
Best part about this video is that you don’t vacillate endlessly about the point & are direct in giving us tips unlike other “experts” on Utube. Had no idea that they could bloom too. Will try to keep them dry during summer
Thank you very much for your feedback! Keep in mind that the climate has a lot to do with the ability to produce flower, the dryer the climate the more likely you are to see flowers on your dwarf jade.
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 🙏🏻
I was to afraid to completely defoliate my dwarf jade, but now after watching your video I have the courage. It’s starting to be a little to overgrown, so I’m happy that I can get so many more cuttings.
Great tute! I'm about to start my own bonsai.. Great timing!
Jade is such a vigorous growing succulent Even as a cutting
Love your vids. Best part is “a few weeks later” that is great to see the progress. U chop a lot of small roots on this tree love to have u explain how much or which root u can cut and which u can’t and how much of each root can cut. Thanks for the video
You can practically remove all roots on portulacarias and they will grow - same goes for many other succulents
On Jades, the first root chop can be very severe, even down to no roots left. In the training stage you want to keep as many roots as possible.
Great job!
Beatifull job friend!!! Good trasformation
Thank you so much 🤗
thats the best explanation buddy congrats!!
Glad it helped!
Great vid...thank you. 👍
Beautiful video..
Great vid on propagation here . Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great job, is there any update for the main trunk? Any progress?
Thank you it was very usefull
Excellent
Perfect 👍
Excellent video, thank you. Please show more follow up videos. Very nice Lazy Susan turntable too.
Thank you! Will do!
excelente video, saludos
Thank you Severo!
Thanks
Great
But, but, that beautiful cascade!
Can we get an update on this jade?
You are Pro ! love your videos! I'm a beginner ..... can i start bonsai azalea with common potting mix ? Thanks ;)
Update on main trunk and cuttings please
Mantap bos ku
Great vid. Another cool thing about the Dwarf Jade is the leaves are edible, give a nice citrusy burst in salads 👍
Very true! Also, The young, tender leaves of trees like beech, birch, Chinese elm, fennel, mulberry, hawthorne, sassafras, and linden are edible too.
Lol
I want to see how that bonsai look now. I was wondering how it would branch out after it is so bare after repotting.
Thanks for the info in the video. Is there a chance to root a cutting while keeping its leave on? Or do I have to remove the leaves to allow the cutting to focus on making roots?
I've rooted well over a dozen without removing any leaves. They were small cuttings . . . but I've seen people leave the leaves on larger cuttings, which also rooted. It may just be quicker when they don't have to maintain leaves while trying to grow roots.
Hello! Thank you very much for the video. Great help! Can we do cuttings using very thick branches? I have a monster jade in my backyard with more than 20 years. I was thinkibg about cutting large branches. Thanks!!!
Hey Fred! Yes you can take cuttings of any size, they root very easy.
Thank you!
Hi, how do you make a thick base of a jade tree?
Hey! How are you guys?? Im from NJ and I’m planning on moving to Florida and my question is if I can grow Japanese maple there since I already have few of them in pots and as bonsai.. I really don’t want to leave them behind.. please help and thank You 😔
Can you do a follow up video?
I'm in the US (born here 66 years ago), & I much prefer to call them Portulacaria afra, + their variety or cultivar name when applicable. . . . I feel it's much better than using names that eventually serve to confuse people as to what is being talked about.
Actual jade plant is Crassula ovata. That one is often confused for jade but it is known as porcelain plant or elephant bush. Fun fact, this plant got the name elephant bush because elephants eat a ton of it
yep, that is true! Fun fact, they also call it bacon bush in South Africa.
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply that’s interesting. Wonder why
I’ve never tried but apparently the leaves are edible
I did a bunch of thick cuttings and let it dry out for weeks. I let them get morning sun and spray the soil lightly every 3 days just the top. It’s been 3 weeks and no new growth is pushing. All the leaves are looking bad too. What am I doing wrong? I tried to keep them in my cabinet for a couple days in the beginning for humidity purposes. Any suggestion? I still have a shot at having them go in just not sure what I am doing wrong.
How many percent is your success rooting cuttings without leaves?I heard you need leaves on the cutting to make it root.
First like yessss!
wohooo🎉
Hi i have a very thick truncheon of a spekboom which i have dried out for couple weeks . How do i go from there to get roots and plant to grow ???
What is your recommendation for best fertilizer for your dwarf jades?
Okay. Learned a few things. Can imagine the number of cuttings you likely planted and are growing. My big Jade had to be cut down due to damage and breakage. Cut to a height of 3”. With base diameter of 1.5 - 2”. Took 6 weeks or so before pushing out growth. Saw this video and other and shifted to bonsai/free draining soil mixture. WOW, the improvements were fantastic.
haha i was like- i wonder what soil hes using....
wait, bonsai supply- iv heard of that ;D
Can we fuse two stems ....Of jade...To make thick main trunk..
can you use LECA instead? Thanks!
💚💚💚💚💚
Hi Jerome, my question is about NPK ratios that you use for Portulacaria. thanks a lot.
Hey Hamdane, We use 18-4-10 www.amazon.com/dp/B07K3RV66F?ref=myi_title_dp
Thanks a lot my friend
This is the most damage I've seen someone do to a plant they wanna have in their life's 😅😂
Then you haven't seen anything yet, lol!
Plants really take off when you do a deep root trimming.
bkd - Their life's? Their life's what?
Plants love to be pruned! I have huge normal jade plants (4 feet tall) and every year they get massively cutback. They love it!
Some like it rough
can you propagate a jade bonsi wich has no leaves
Mine has no leaves so can i still do it?
Can you propagate them and repot any time of the year? I live in Europe and keep my portulacaria indoors, cheers!
Hi, if you grow them indoors, you can propagate them any time of the year.
This is such a great video. I'm so inspired to try my hand at this. You said you'll fertilize the cuttings eventually. What kind of fertilizer do you use? Thanks!
Hi Kamalani! Thank you for the kind words. I use our all purpose bonsai fertilizer, but I wait until the new growth has lignified before I start too fertilize.
www.amazon.com/Bonsai-Fertilizer-Tons-Nutrients-Health/dp/B07K3RV66F/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=bonsai+fertilizer&qid=1613744798&sr=8-10
Can you water root them?
Can we get an Update on these a year from now?☺️
That's could be doable :)
Hey jerome. I had a question. I defoliated a elephant bush bonsai 2 months ago. And it still hasnt grown back its leafs. Its small branches just keep dying back more and more and I don't know what to do anymore.
I'm wondering if it was suffering from sunburn. I'm in the very hot desert, & any succulent that has lost it leaves gets sunburned & wilts, here!
Would you consider selling any large/thick portulacaria cuttings unrooted? It seems anytime I find port cuttings for sale they are either very thin or just tiny little pieces.
You might want to try joining one or more local garden groups. You may be able to get some thicker cuttings from another member. I know that Facebook has several garden trade groups; garden succulent groups; etc. etc. etc.
🙏🙏 🙏🙏
Excellent!
Have you used aluminium wire or copper wire here?
Hi, we used aluminum wire. Copper is mainly used for junipers and pines.
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Thank you so much.
Two questions:
If I plan on keeping my jade indoors should I still let it stay outside after potting a cutting?
And if my cutting has leaves on the entire stem should I leave them alone for a few weeks until new growth, then when new growth forms, remove all of the leaves on the main stem and leave the top ones?
Hey Jace, If you plan on growing your plants indoors all year then you don't have to move it outdoors after potting. Just let the cuttings dry for a few days and plant them, leaves or no leaves doesn't really matter.
What was the purpose of cutting all the perfectly good roots off?
To promote finer root growth, one 2 inch root cannot feed the tree as much as 10 1/4 inch roots. In bonsai finer roots are the objective.

What are the contents of an all-purpose bonsai soil? Thanks!
Hey Sheila, It is Pumice, lava, calcined clay, and pine bark. Here is a direct link to the soil: www.amazon.com/Bonsai-Purpose-Draining-Calcined-Supply/dp/B07M68B4JG/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=bonsai+soil&qid=1624537500&sr=8-6
Just as an audio production/quality tip, try to get a measure on the decibel range of your speaking voice on the recording and balance the decibel range of your music to fit that. It keeps the audio a consistent volume and stops people having to ride their volume control due to overly loud music. Also, while your speaking volume is relatively consistent, using a compressor if you're not already is generally a good idea. It amplifies the lower ranges of the volume and squishes the higher range of the volume down, again just adding to that consistent sound. Hope it helps :)

Do we need to mix some vermi compost in this soil?
Hi, this soil mix is ready to use. No adding of a sort is necessary.

13:06 not a Jade, its an Elephant bush.
You can eat the leaf, it has a nice sour flavour
00
could they flower in nevada
Most likely they could. They need a drier climate.
That’s not a jade plant
Dwarf jade, or portulacaria afra!
NOT DWARF JADE! SHAME ON YOU!
Please enlighten us!
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply - You should know better.
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Jon is right. Portucalaria OR Elephant bush not dwarf jade.
