I saw this some years ago at a local theatre. I’ve not seen this yet, but from what I can see from this production it looks very modern & minimalistic.
1:30 very happy to see more and more theaters step up their game in terms of accessibility. ive especially been seeing this in the west end with things like BTTF’s relaxed performances is really a step in the right direction !
I went to see this last night and it is utterly incredible. I saw the London production 30 years ago and this staging couldn’t be more different. It has all the splendour and magnificence of the original but there is hardly any set … just a large cinema screen. Nicole Scherzinger is dazzling in this role … and her voice is magnificent. A wonderful evening in the theatre.
@@DanielMazz Erm . . If you shoot someone there is blood. He bleeds, she gets blood on her hands, she smears her hands down her face. She's completely deranged.
God I wish I was able to see this! I missed this by like a month and a half. Hopefully, they will put out a cast album and maybe even film it. Thank you Aurora for capturing this!
I don't get the flak and stick this production is getting. I am really liking the choices that were made here (that ppl are talking about on both sides of the opinion spectrum in this case), as somebody who hasn't flown across the pond to see this breathtaking musical.
Random thoughts: the woman behind her in the final bows could pass as her daughter; open jazz hand to indicate the orchestra?; the black/white/red trope has been used a lot but I found this VERY intriguing for this show; NS is stunningly beautiful despite being blood-covered. Fascinating!
@@dukeofrodtown1705 um, no. NS is the only cast member with open fingers/jazz hand. The others are indicating the orchestra traditionally. It's a weird look/choice from her.
@@beaellie9766 I've seen some actors do it, and some productions do this a notch differently. At the end of the day, the whole intention is that they're acknowledging the orchestra, and those few seconds are about when the conductor does take a bow (and to an extent like I said, the orchestra too). That's kinda what I mean
When I first heard about the new production I was excited to see it but yet again they change and update a classic film and previous productions. I saw Rita Moreno as Norma Desond and a very scaled back version, with the Iconic Glenn Close as Norma at the London Colisium. She has such stage presence and in my own opinion, is Norma Desmond I would love to see the film version of Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close as Norma actually happen, but stillnotthe funding to make it actually happen. I'm sure Nicole did a different interpretation of Norma, but it wasn't for me and tickets were very expensive
The gunshot is done amazingly. It goes completely dark, there's a gunshot, lights up for a split second to see blood on his chest, lights off, gunshot, lights up, more blood, lights off. It's all done in split seconds -- incredible effect. Then it's Nicole's final scene as she stands in front of the audience, she puts her hands up to her face - which smears it - then delivers that final "I'm ready for my close up" speech with a completely crazed look. She's phenomenal.
Thank you, I've seen the bootlegs of this show, and saw a community theatre production, and there is no pool at the beginning of the show and not at the end of the show like it was for the film that it was based on and the book of her life. So what's up with adding Horror to musicals that just don't need it added, like oKLAHOMA, And now this? I just don't get it. Directors shouldn't be allowed to alter the original piece of work.
The original movie, the original London production, and the original Broadway production (I saw them all) started with Joe Gillis' body floating in a pool. Director's shouldn't be allowed to alter original works? Sondheim would disagree.@@wwozanewmusical
zenomorph No imagination? Best that you didn’t see it really because you have to have imagination to appreciate it. Oh, and if you “love Nicole” so much, it wouldn’t make any difference whether there are sets or not.
This production is a non replica and is super unique as there are only chairs for set and some film equipment, perhaps 1 or 2 props and no color except for 3 moments in the show, one being right before the end. The show is carried by its fantastic cast performing their hearts out bringing a haunting spin to this musical. The tech in the show is also one to be noted as lighting, haze, and cinematography is used to a masterclass degree. If you ever get the chance to, this is not a show you’d want to miss if you appreciate theatre as an art form.
In this production there isn’t necessarily any of the big iconic things from the original as it is a non replica production. So they portray it differently on this stage.
@@barbraseville8984 I’m aware of that in the film. My phrasing was incorrect. Nevertheless what’s with all the blood and the lingerie? Not sure this one’s for me.

@@ayanp353 Actually. you CAN judge a lot from a small clip. Actors with comical amounts of fake blood smeared on them (and coming out of Norma's MOUTH, for some reason; did she eat Joe?), overly dark, brooding expressions. I guarantee the show is filled with gratuitous "expressive" dancing that means nothing. The whole point of this production is to "shock" people so tween girls will post on Instagram how "amaaaaaazing" it is. Totally devoid of logic or real emotion. Shame on you. Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Seen it, this reduced version without any props, costume and stage did require the outmost emotions and energy from the cast. It was very strong and powerful, they really put their heart and soul into it.
You couldn't be more wrong. This is prestige level theatre. And has been the toast of the West End for 4 months. And now it'll reinvent Sunset Boulevard in the US in 2024
this broke me, i'm so happy to see nicole finally getting her flowers for her talent, about time
This show is remarkable, Nicole, outstanding!❤❤❤❤❤
I really love Nicole. I'm so glad she's getting the chance to lead a production and watching her receive her applause is genuinely moving.
The movie credits is an great touch.
💯% agreed!!! So few productions of many musicals do that. I wish this bow / post-bow approach was used more.
It is relevant as it's nod to the subject matter of the film business. Should not be used otherwise. Nicole is phenomenal.

The actress who resembles Nicole and is standing behind her plays Young Norma, a dance role.
The 'open jazz hand' is the cast's way of thanking the orchestra, during which the conductor (sometimes the musicians to an extent) has a bow.
