    Wannabe sailor here, I’ve seen several of your videos and this one was far and away my favorite. If this damn pandemic ever gets under control I’m headed to Fla. and a sailing school. You made single-handed sailing sound easy but it still looks a little daunting, lol. Keep up the great vids!

    Great video, we bought a new 51.1 last year. It our first ever boat. She is great to sail, so much fun. Never tried single handed, have to give that a go now! Thanks for the tips 😀

    Sean you are the best to explain things so simply even though we all know that not easy ... great video ...we are thinking switching our 40 feet express cruiser for a sail boat... we are from north east Canada but we will fly over for sure if we buy one...

    Sean, thanks so much for the video. ASA 103 certified avid intermediate sailor here! In another video, you mentioned that jenua is preferred in Socal Winds . But self tacking is usually easier.
    For this well equipped advanced boat, would you suggest a self tacking jib or jenua? How difficult is using jenua on this boat?
    And thanks for tour videos!

    • @carlislejeffr

      I have this same boat With Self tacking Makes sailing very easy! You lose power though vs standard jib, but I think the tradeoff is OK with such a fast boat

    Would you do all of this solo while trolling 2-3 fishing lines? That's where my learning curve is stalled out on my Cal 34. I can either jib sail and fish or sail with main + jib but no fishing. Can't do all three without a second person.

    Often i do things backwards. I roll out the Genoa first then turn off the engine. Let go of the main sheet then raise the main😊

    Show us how well that boat sails with the mast and headsails deeply keeled. Fly without falling off or heeling over. Trying to sail normal..

    How do you dock the 51.1 boat with on a solo basis?

    How did you pull into the slip??

    • @SeanSmithYachtConsulting
      @SeanSmithYachtConsulting 3 года назад +2

      Hi John! I backed the boat into its slip, quickly attached a spring line, and then adjusted the bow and stern lines. Important step was to prep fenders and docklines ahead of time, I like to bring the bow lines aft to the shrouds so they are easy to grab from the dock after you step off the boat and attached spring lines.

    I've found these and 46's used for < $100k and much lower. So tempting. Then you realise just having to replace the sails in 5 years cost about a year of a middle class wage :P

    looks like an overpriced costal sailing vessel. Nowhere to mount a dinghy. rear mounted cockpit (not safe for the ocean proper). no protection for the cockpit (not safe for the ocean proper). Nowhere to mount solar panels.

    • @sdbeneteau
      @sdbeneteau  8 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Leudast, Actually, this is a boat fresh from the factory that has not been commissioned for offshore yet. It HAS retractable dinghy davits already, the custom canvas protects the cockpit, and our customers have the choice of installing solar panels on the custom bimini. So very safe "for the ocean proper". Beneteau has more offshore sea miles than any other brand in history.

    Why would anybody in their right mind buy a monohull ,when a catamaran gets you their so much faster and without such a large sea motion,far more comfortably.

    • @777rogerf
      @777rogerf 2 года назад +2

      some people prefer the advantages of a monohull. "Different strokes for different folks," as they say.
