  • More than 3 million ring lock folding knives are sold in the African Continent every year. These highly functional knives are owned and carried by people from every walk of life and are the go-to every day tool for almost every conceivable task. These versatile knives have stood the test of time, they have been in-use continuously for centuries and with good reason -- they work!
    Cold Steel's President Lynn C Thompson has long admired these knives and has seen them put to great use during his many visits to Africa since the 1980s. Now, we are proud to offer our interpretations of these enduring ring lock folders that we have called the Kudu and the Eland, and we are going to go "out on a limb" and state -- these are the best folding knives in their price range in the world!
    Both the Kudu and the Eland feature highly rust resistant and beautifully mirror polished stainless steel blades that are expertly heat treated to offer an excellent balance between edge holding and ease of re-sharpening. Their glass reinforced Zy-Ex handles are not only attractive (with a wood grain texture and polished silver embellishments) but they are incredibly strong and durable.
    Amazingly lightweight, versatile and functional, and affordable on almost any budget -- the Eland and the Kudu represent a new standard in low cost, high performance folders. There is simply no excuse not to buy one today!

    I own a Kudu, and I have to say I think it's a great knife, especially for the low cost ! Ok, it may not look flashy and expensive ( which is fair enough as it isn't expensive), but it's an excellent working knife that you can use hard and not worry about.

    Didn't have one in my collection so I just picked up the Kudu Lite for under 10. It's a great knife for the price. That's one of the many things I love about Cold Steel, no matter what your budget is, you can find a blade to match it. You would be hard pressed to find a knife this nice for under 10!

    It’s a shame they discontinued the Eland. I bought one for my nephew for his 18th birthday and I kinda regret not getting one for myself. I’ve been carrying my Kudu for 6 years now and it hasn’t let me down yet. Hopefully I’ll cash in on an Eland one day.

    The Kudu is a great knife and amazing for the price. I don't even mind using it with food since it cleans up easily. I even used it to carve the Thanksgiving turkey since I didn't have any specialized kitchen cutlery. Looking to get an Eland to compare.

    holy shit i love my Kudu so much after 2 years, filleting fish, cutting steaks, apples, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, feathersticking, shaving off wood for fire starting, cutting rope/paracord, cutting medical bandages, the lock is so strong and the handle feels cheap but it's so sturdy
    for 10USD it's been a hell of a knife, came sharp out of the box and 4116 is easy to sharpen in less than a few passes on medium grit stones back to a utility edge and takes only a few more passes on fine stones after that to get it back to fillet knife sharpness for fishing
    BRING BACK THE ELAND and make a little brother called the Springbok

    just got my kudu at delivery service, it reminds me the no name chinese knife i bought in the end of 90s somewhere at the chinese flea market in the chelyabinsk city, ural, russia. i used that knife for years but had lost it in the middle of 00s. it had wooden handle, unknown strange steel on a blade but it never failed me. it's kinda like i have that my knife again but on the next level of quality.

    I own a Kudu : it's really a great knife. Incredibly sharp, good knife. Just a question to Cold Steel or customers : on my Kudu, there is no oil on the mechanism, only some white grease or rub. Is it the normal thing, it's ok ? All the Kudus are packaged this way ?

    My older brother’s first Cold Steel knife was an Eland. It cut well but he didn’t like the knife too much due to its low quality, mainly the ring chain locking mechanism. He soon replaced it with a Recon tanto

    I love my Kudu (current edc) and plan on getting an Eland while they're still available on the secondary market. Since the Eland is no longer in production, I think it would be awesome to experiment with a smaller model in the 3.25"-3.5" blade length range. It would be incredibly easy to shorten the Kudu design down to meet those dimensions and would open it up to a wider market where blade length restrictions are a problem.

    • @Zanje89
      @Zanje89 9 лет назад

      Guus de Jong I agree it would be nice, the current one and steel used is fine for its role as is but after using it i am a HUGE fan of this design and use it as an EDC for all the things you normally carry a pocket knife for. At least for myself i wouldnt mind paying a bit more to get more, better blade steel even just AUS8, better feeling handle material, maybe some aluminum liners etc. all as a different option in addition to the current offering
      I feel this is a really good design that it is a shame it has no more advanced "premium" option

    • @Throatwobbler_Mangrove
      @Throatwobbler_Mangrove 8 лет назад

      +Chris DiDomenico An upgrade to AUS8 would be nice but that would probably put the knife at the $15 price point and to be honest I wouldn't pay that much for this design, as much as I enjoy it as is. A more EDCable size (3.25"-3.5") would be a better modification, in my opinion. I feel like the locking mechanism, while effective, has clear limitations (slight up-down play in my model) negates any need for beefing up the knife's strength with liners. By cutting it's size down to a more EDC friendly length it would be better suited for the light duty task it is designed for and be legal in more locations.

      These tests are fun to watch... but the most important test is not on any of these videos. Knife buyers are not as un-informed as before and we demand better steels and heat treat. Who cares if you can do a pull up on a knife if you grind isso poorly off centered or the HT could of been done better in your oven, Tacticool is cool but function will take you into the more pockets than ever.
