Delft Clay casting ring shanks is possible with a large casting flask.
In this video I make a simple pattern for a ring shank and then using the Delft Clay casting system i cast it in silver to bend into a chunky ring.
If you would like to know more about this simple Delft Clay sand casting system, I made a more
in-depth two-part video that I hope will help beginners get into this fabulous technique.
Here’s a link for both of them …

I love this style of casting!! Thank you for this technique style! It is soooo much easier than the others I have seen
thanks for that Orzora, sand casting is such a pleasurable process it inspires one to be inventive and creative exploring different possible techniques … have fun … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff Thank you so much! What type of torch and casting metal do you use?
Hi Nick, hope you had a great Christmas, I am definitely doing the Delft this year, I'll fab up a mould just like I copied your circlip pliers for link. I had some fairly good news in a way I suppose. I'm registered disabled after my accident which will give me all the benefits and a bit more as it was industrial. It's hardly ideal but it's a comfort to know I'm being looked after as a genuine case. My gold chain is at 3700 views which is crazy. I'm even thinking that people might want to see the process but it wouldn't be anything that hasn't been done and better than I would. Looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks for the inspiration and I hope 2024 is going to be a stellar year for you my friend.👍🏴 ❤
Cheers John, the only thing lacking this Xmas was some snow on the ground. Not like how it was reported for Scotland, being a white Christmas. You certainly do deserve any benefits you can get after working so hard and paying a lot of tax I imagine. Short videos (under 60 seconds) in portrait rotation can do well sometimes and are so much easier to produce. RUclipsr has put a lot of effort into promoting shorts. I think you’re much better off making your own casting flasks if you can. The commercial aluminium ring varieties aren’t great, they have a very tight seal which doesn’t help for neat and easy set up. You’re gonna love casting once you get going, I hope you don’t get through your gold reserves too quick with it. Hope you have a fab New Year and settle in for a gratifying 2024 … N

just googled your suggestion, there’s a few variations on a theme … The long slotted thread clamp looks good for square shanks stamps … N

hi joyeria, The box is called a casting flask, I make my own. you could try searching for Delft Clay casting flask. The red sand casting product I’m using is called Delft Clay. I tend to get most of my jewellery products from Cooksongold … all the best … Nick
Good

@@Nickscreativestuff What kind of soil is this?
For this sand casting i used a product called Delft Clay, originally designed for Goldsmiths … N

How do you smooth off the two ends off I may ask?
Hi Meeseeks, after cutting the ends off they are filed square before bending. once bent into a ring shape and the ends are touching using a saw once more down the joint gives a neat seam to solder … N
@@Nickscreativestuff thank you so much!
Is that a diy mould ?? Where did you get it from ??
Hi Bikash, yes I make my own moulds. The longplaying version of this video shows a lot more detail. Here is a link if you’re interested … ruclips.net/video/tM5fhFKHNBs/видео.html … cheers … Nick

Love this can I ask where you got the metal mold I have round ones but never seen a square and also where did you vent at?
Hi Misty, I make my own molds, this video is a cut down short version of a longer play video where I show how I make this mold … here’s a link ruclips.net/video/tM5fhFKHNBs/видео.html … I find venting isn’t always needed especially with an open top vertical cast … cheers … Nick
Ano pong tawag sa buhangin na gamit ñio?
Hi Joeluis, the sand i use for casting is called “Delft Clay” … N
I would add definition to nature by re-casting: cast a leaf, than create a metal leaf with it, work with metal to add definition, clean, and re-cast. Otherwise it remains just a raw material
thanks Shmyrli, I do love natures natural beauty … N
Can i use play sand mixed with molasses?
Hi Donnie, i’ve not heard of that one before … lots of variations all round the world … might be worth giving it a try …. you may have found something new …. N
Hello, what’s the name of the mold case you used? Fantastic video
hi Mike thanks for that, I was using a product called Delft Clay in a home-made casting flask or sometimes called a casting frame … N
@@Nickscreativestuff you’re welcome, Ah those casting flasks are awesome
I really struggled with some commercially made casting flasks, so I started making my own … N
@@Nickscreativestuff Nice, do you sell them? Are those flasks made to not have to add holes to the clay? I’m looking for a system that allows me to delft cast without doing all the holes ect. Don’t know if that’s possible. Looking to learn daft casting as vacuum casting system are expensive and out of my budget currently.
being a hobbyist I don’t sell stuff just having fun playing around with ideas. An ideal flask can be used both in the vertical or horizontal position. it’s important to know about venting, but not always necessary to use lots of vent holes that can end up causing lots of cleanup with a messy cast. I mostly use a vertical positioned split line if I can, so the mould can be made with a direct pour funnel into the cavity. If the access channel can be made big enough and the mould slightly tilted from perfectly vertical The molten metal will flow down the edge of the hole when entering the cavity, allowing venting up the hole at the same time … hope this makes sense … N
Meant good job sorry
