I was fortunate enough to buy a used 44 gal corner tank like that one. I was told it would not be possible to convert a corner tank to rimless because of the unusual stresses involved. The people that told me that persuaded me that corner tanks must have frames. Now that I've seen yours I'm jealous. Rimless tanks are so cool looking. Nice job!

if you do cut into the seam can you still seal over with silicone? my tank has a large seam between the front facing and bottom piece of glass which I hacked into while trying to remove the silicone

Have you heard that black silicone is better? Not a question for this tank specifically.

I am puzzled that you recommend taping off. Because taping off when sealing doesn't allow a edge of the sealant to cure correctly.. plumbers never use the taping process because it causes the seal to fail faster. When you rip off the tape your pulling up on the edge of the sealant..better to use your finger or a caulking tool. Dont use tape.

Aquariums are different. This was all cosmetic. It's the silicone between the two sheets of glass that's structural.

Hi Eric.. so happy you are better! Great video. You explain the how's and why's so well. I really appreciate you sharing this. Now I have a question for you. Can you do a video on removing scratches and what to use? I have tried a few methods but they, I believe are for tiny scratches. Baking soda, toothpaste, steel wool none have worked. I have also read to lightly fill scratches with clear nail polish, then take a cloth dipped in remover and just wipe it so it removes any left on the glass only leaving the scratch filled. I haven't tried this one yet but I may have to. Thanks again my innovative friend. Have a wonderful Friday!😀💖💦

Hi Deb. It's definitely nice to plan my day without taking into account the closest toilet. lol. I will have to do a video on that. The only problem is it requires the tank to be empty and it takes a fair amount of effort. I know that's funny considering what I just did for this tank.

Eric that's my problem too. I have done some rubbing with baking soda during water changes but it's only a half-hearted effort. Maybe I'll attempt to make a video for you. I have the 60 long in the basement empty now so that will be my project. It was a marine tank and is drilled. I think that's where all the scratches came from. I am sure I added some too. My point is that it's an old tank so if I botch it up .. oh well. Another lesson. Have a great weekend!! 💖💦😀

You must have been reading my mind because i was going to ask you how i can do this. Here is my problem..... I have a very old stainless steel 40 gallon long tank that has a rather small leak on the bottom. I suspect that the previous owner had done a total resealing using black silicone years ago. But I'm not sure if that kind of silicone was commonly commercially used back then. The tank is at least 40 yrs old made with very thick glass and the frame covers all seams. I tried to seal the outside bottom but realized that didn't work because the tank rested directly on the shelf and broke the seal i made. So it has sat to the side because i wasn't sure of the best way to reseal it. How do i go about sealing this tank because it is made differently than most tanks so I'm assuming that it will differ from the process used in this vid. There is no DIY fix for this so i need the direction of a true pro like yourself because it needs to be done right. If you need more info to go on to help me do this let me know what more you need to know. Thanks for your time...HB

Hi Ha-y-n. Surprisingly I am familiar with these old tanks. There were several styles though. Send me some pics of the the tank showing the overall view and of the seams. Make sure you show the one that is leaking. I will have a look and hopefully be able to walk you through it. Here is my email. fishmanericrussell@gmail.com

There are a number of stronger silicones. The one I use is the best clear one that is affordable. All of the black ones I know of are not stronger they merely hide imperfections better.
