Norway Cruise | P&O Cruises Iona | Haugesund: Scenic Skudeneshavn

- Hello everybody!
This week's vlog is from our 6th day aboard P&O Cruises ship Iona. It's Thursday 6th July and we are in Haugsund for our last port day of the holiday.
After a hurried breakfast we headed off the ship to find our excursion coach at the dockside.
The trip was called 'Scenic Skudeneshavn' as that was the destination, one of Norway's best-preserved small towns which is the capital of Karmoy island.
The white-painted wooden houses date back to the early 19th Century during the booming days of herring fishing etc.
Our main location within the town was the Maelandsgarden Museum situated in an authentic merchant house. Although we personally found the layout of the first half a dozen rooms confusing, having multiple themes and industries represented all together, we still enjoyed looking at all the things on display. We definitely preferred the second half of the museum though where rooms were set up as they'd have been seen in the period.
After leaving the museum and the coach group we took a quiet stroll down some of the streets before joining the group and tour guide back outside the museum to return to the coach.
On the way back to the ship we stopped at a coastal town, Ferkingstad, to see the Fishermen's Memorial, a stone cross and bell tower that pays tribute to all the fishermen who have lost their lives in American waters.
Once we were back on board Iona we went in search of lunch before returning to our cabin as Dan was in some pain from a recurring shoulder issue plus both felt tired from all the walking and fresh air!
After Dan had had a long nap while I watched films we left our cabin to go and pick up the Celebration Night photos we had ordered the previous day (not cheap! £100 for 5 digital-only copies on a memory stick!), dropped them, back in our cabin for safety, then went for a bite to eat before settling down in the SkyDome to watch the evening entertainment, a talented trio of ladies called 'She' who performed covers of several female singers/groups.
The ladies sang really well but, at least from where we were sat, the acoustics of the big dome, coupled with the loud backing music, seemed to drown out their vocals which was a big shame as they were good - in fact the recording we have in this vlog sounds better than it did on the night!
After the show we grabbed a snack from Horizons before retiring to our cabin for the night and signing off.

Lovely day although that museum was random at first lol a large tin of Nescafé did make us chuckle , the guides seemed lovely and it looked beautiful, I’ve warmed more to this cruise now although I’m not a 100 per cent sure yet , time will tell thanks guys loved it

Great vlog guys. It’s a shame the weather wasn’t great. Could you feel the ship moving much ? Did you feel claustrophobic with all those people ? I thought the guide on the bus was boring !
Hi Dena! Thank you very much! Sunnier weather would have been nice but at least it wasn't raining! LOL
No, by this point in the cruise we'd gotten used to the rolling of the ship, thankfully!
We never like crowded places but we just tried to keep out of busier areas where possible.
The guide wasn't as chirpy as the two younger ladies from the two previous excursions but she was friendlier which we liked, lol x

The ship didn't take long to get through once we knew the layout, it just depended on the time of day as to how packed it was and how many people you have to squeeze by.
Walking outside along the promenade deck etc was fairly easy as less crowded.

Hey Dan and Bob 🤗 I think I might have been brave and stepped on the see through glass pane 🫣 Those 2 people that went to the coach would have annoyed me - why can’t people follow instructions 🙄 Those girls did seem like they sounded great. Onto your final day vlog now 🩷 xxx
Hi Leona! Ah yes but Dan and I are a lot heavier than you and more paranoid we'd crack it, even though it's obviously very strong, LOL.
Yes it was so annoying when they just vanished! The guide was obviously worried despite trying not to show it and was taking us back to the coach and was going to then double back on her own to look again for them when they were found on the coach... we don't even know how they knew where the coach was as it wasn't waiting in the same place we got dropped off! 🤔
The singers, 'She', did have good voices, just a shame about the acoustics x
