    First time there was summer of 1978 for 30 days. Worked Direct Support Maintenance 699th Mt. 85th Mt, Battalion out of Hanau. Loved it there. Germany is a beautiful Country. Hope you enjoy your time in country and wish you well Mr. Garrett.

    Went there for tank gunnery several times between 1965-68. Most of my time there was spent on the ranges, living in a GP medium tent. Back in those days the tank trails weren't paved, all the tress next to them were white from the dust. My first home station was in Munich, a lot better than Graf.

    Great Vid. I was stationed at Graf. 90 97. I miss the Metropol, Schnitzel Stand,Kon Tiki. And going to the class 6 to get JD at 9 before they close. Was with the 536 MP CO. Things sure changed since I was there.

    You guys have it good. I was stationed there in 1985 while we rebuilt the tank range and it was nothing like it is now. DCO 293rd Engineer Battalion 18th Engineer Brigade.
    We stayed in baccracks not attached to the Latrine so we had to trek about two hundred feet to shower. It was nothing to see wild bore Hogs.

    Definitely miss Graf!! Tank range #132. Gunnery. JMRC live fire.. The gut truck and the donut truck. Lol. The Germans stealing our mres. There are trails behind range 132 that lead to a bunch of old m110 self propelled artillery vehicles and other decommissioned tracks. Such an awesome experience. Glad to see Graf is still jumping.

    You addressed purchasing a car but do you even need a vehicle, with all the public transit options? Is it easy to get to the train station without a personal vehicle?

    • @nikemg23
      @nikemg23  2 года назад

      You technically do not need a car no. You can survive easily off of public transportation. But to get to a train station you will need to take a taxi to get there. Other than that, buses are available. But having your own car is great for convenience!

      I was there from 90 to 97. Was in the 536 MP CO. Don't think the 536 exist anymore. The base is all new. When I was stationed there we lived in old German Barracks. If the guesthouse is still open downtown, it's a great place to have a nice meal. Eat all the Schnitzel you can. Lol. And if u can make it next year. Hit the Oktoberfest. It's awesome. I really miss Graf. Love the town, the country. Driving through eschenbach, was stationed in Bayreuth for a while. Beautiful area. Bavaria is Beautiful this time of year. Enjoy your tour. God bless.

    I’m going to graduate here from AIT here in Fort Gordon, Georgia and then go to Airborne and debating on going to East Camp, Germany or RASP and become a Ranger. I’ve been doing Ranger PT and basically lead the runs like I’m physically fit. And I want to go to Germany in my heart but scared I might loose shape or become complacent when I go to Germany. So what would you advice, do y’all work out a lot or anyone leave to Rangers after Germany? Or what’s your whole opinion on this and what do people do up on base with a problem like this?

    • @nikemg23
      @nikemg23  3 года назад

      Late response on this as I do not have notifications up for comments. But if you have the opportunity to go ranger, and you have the itch to do it, the best time to do it is now. Germany is great but it will always be there. If I have an itch to go to a school I won't hesitate as my plans and mindset might change by next month. Better to act now then wait and regret.

      As an 11B there are not many areas you can go, from what it sounds like Pvt you aren't even outta jump school. So for your punch drinking ass is gonna land you either in Italy and if you fail jump you are gonna go to 2CR and hate life.
