- I only intended to shoot a quick video of some rusting techniques on the Bachmann CLass 66 'Shed' exhaust, but to give it some kind of context, I finished the rest of the roof too.
But now I feel that I need to show the rest of the loco being weathered, so that'll be in part 2, coming soon.......

From just looking at the thumbnail I wasn't expecting that method at all!
Goes to show with some simple paint and powders what can be done. Nailed it. 👍
Thank you. I’ve taken a few cues from military modellers and added my own touches
@@BuntersYard that's exactly what I thought as the effect progressed on.
It's a shame many railway modellers don't use a good few methods from military model weathering with railway models becoming very detailed in recent years, the detailed weathering just takes it up a step further.
Look forward to seeing this loco fully weathered.
The detail on the exhaust is great , looking forward to watching the model being completed.
It’s all downhill from here 😂😂
It's great to hear you playing rock music in your videos again, man. It's my favourite. :)
I’ve got more rock numbers ready. I just have to remember to change the soundtrack on the video template I’ve created. I’m going to write your name on a post it note and stick it on my screen to remind me next time 😎🎶🎸🥁
That might be the best exhaust silencer I have ever seen painted!
That’s very good of you to say. Thank you
Great video I must say that the Exhaust turned out looking very good and all it needed was a bit of brush painting and some weathering powders and it turned out looking great! look forward to the video on weathering the rest of the model.- Nicholas.
Thank you. The most seen part of any rolling stock is from the top, so it makes sense to spend a little time on it i guess
Brilliant Dave- I have a whole load of Class 66s that need weathering so looking forward to park 2.
Cheers Kev
It seems that part 2 is becoming the weekends ‘must watch’. I’m feeling a bit under pressure now 😂😂
Very impressed with the exhaust weathering, all my class 66 were done some years back and I had followed the article by Tim Shackleton in one of the specials coproduced with Hornby Magazine
I will definitely be trying your method on my next class 66
Terry
Thank you. Glad you like it 👍🏼
This is great! This is the content I and all your fans love! I find these tutorials very satisfying. Very realistic- the GBRF 66s are a lot cleaner than say a EWS (Now DB Cargo). Great video and keep up the good work!
I have another 2 66’s to weather. Another DB and a large logo BR, although that is going to be a relic. I’m sure it’ll have additional work on the exhaust. There’ll be a video to explain why this one is being relic’d
I'm an armour modeller myself ige just subscribed I still enjoy all types of Modeling with engine's have you ever tried doing a rust finish with a wee blast of a matt coat before starting? I think it's more controlled and gives a better finish when comes to rust washes but if you can get your hands on life colours paint sets (liquid pigments) the rust one and there is 2 sets for detailing! There the best rust tones you will ever use! There a wash with the pigment through them but it's just right if you know what I mean? Glossy surfaces are good for washes normally when doing pannal lines etc but I always experiment with different way's with new products Ammos new shaders are brilliant too there pretty rubbish through airbrush but for brush use for weathering there something else! They just brought about acrylic washes I'm trying them out just now there's loads of colours compared to the 5 or something vallejo have! I'm moving over to AMMO Products there just fantastic! But migs a modeler himself so it's one them one's that its not a massive non artist company who understands the way we need things to flow n dry!
I tend to make sure that the surface has a paint layer lready on for the pigments to grab onto. When i seal with varnish i'll add a little more powder in to get it just right.
I'll have a look at the othe products you've mentioned. Always keen to try new things. Thank for the message
Id recommend using Tamiya or other masking tape rather than that paper painter's tape. You van get uneven edges, glue residue and paint bleed through too easily with that paper stuff.
Yes thank you. There is always paint bleed i have to admit. I'll get some tamiya tape
