Umanda Naduni it’s a adapted series from bl novel with the same title, it became bromance in the series since china banned all of the series that contains lgbtq+ material. Cheng fengtai has a wife BUT he spent most of his time with shang xirui so he has a very little interaction with his wife in the series. it’s really worth to watch!! you must watch it and feel the sensation! even it’s a bromance, their eyes can tell that it’s more than that :)

There should be a follow-up drama in Hong Kong or after the war where they meet again. Maybe the drama can start with Shang Xi Rui doing what he does in Beiping and Cheng Feng Tai and then their paths cross again...
Winter Begonia is one of the best series I have watched. I lived along with Shang Xi Rui and Cheng Feng Tai. Through their friendship and love I went through myriad of emotions. It opened up the world of Chinese Opera for me, and though I initially thought it sounds funny, I ended up admiring the art form and searching for good ones for my playlist. The acting of all the actors is par excellence especially the two main characters. I wish the actors Zheng Yin and Huang Xiaoming receive more recognition for their acting in it. The storyline is amazing. I am still in awe of Chinese story telling abilities. The drama is set in 1930s so it has period drama feel. The colours are beautiful. The muted blues and greens are cleverly contrasted with the oranges and reds. The cinematography is impressive. I never missed a scene or fast forwarded in this 49 episode drama. And that says a lot. Although the ending may feel a bit ambiguous and sad to some, I am relieved that both the main characters at least survived considering it is set in the times when China was invaded by Japan. It is war time so still it is good to have both of them alive. I am sure many fanfics will do justice to the ending. A number of times I felt I don’t want to continue watching as it is inevitably going to be a tragedy, but I am so glad I continued. After Untamed this is one of the best things to have been in journey with. Ah! And how can I forget the beautiful soundtrack. I never really missed the opening and ending song for each episode. It is a masterpiece of artwork.
This show is amazing, everyone involved is very talented in their crafts. The photography, direction, songs, production design, scripts, acting, everything is superb! I don't think I've watched a lot of shows with this level of quality from any country. Congrats on this outstanding work of art and thank you for the english sub!

Absolutely loved this series, especially the actors, along with the writing, and the production. Such a fascinating story of the Beijing Opera. My grandfather taught English at both St. John’s in Shanghai and Yenching University in Beijing in the late 1920s. He gave me a book on the Beijing Opera and the pictures fascinated me. It was wonderful to see these photos come to life and see the lives of the performers in that turbulent period of history. I will watch it again.
It's an open ending, but what I feel is that it's hinted throughout that sxr will join Cheng Feng Tai. The build up throughout the last few episodes of sxr delegating his responsibilities towards the troop to xiao zhou zi, introducing his fellow members to the public and basically making his importance less significant for the troop's survival. It all signifies that if he wants to leave, there would be nothing holding him back. And, in the end, he is very clearly not shown bowing to the audience alongside his troop-members, he is definitely running to catch up to Cft, and even though Cft imagines his presence in the end, he and his wife are still shown waiting for him. They don't leave. And the last credit scene even shows them still waiting even as the train starts leaving. Plus throughout the series, there are many more hints, and much more foreshadowing which insinuates that Shang xi rui would inevitably end up choosing his soulmate- Cheng Feng Tai- over opera (or anything else, for that matter). They are true soulmates for whom separation would feel akin to death.

Funny thing, I started watching this series when they were just releasing its episodes, so more than a year ago, but stopped watching cause I had a feeling I wouldn't want to keep going, but in the sense I didn't want it to end. So I kept rewatching episodes, going back again and again. Every time it made me think about real life too much or made me cry too much, I'd rewind again to episodes that made me laugh or warm my heart, and then I start again and again. I feel like I wanted to let it float around my head and heart some more time and turn it into some eternal song with no ending. My tears now are the manifestation that everything too good to be true must end. It would be very hard to find anything as good as Winter Begonia. I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in this production, every one of you. And I hope you know the work you did is immensely appreciated.

The love for ones family, friends, culture and country was evident from the beginning to the very end. The over arching theme of Chinese, Peking Opera with a hint of Kungu added a wonderful element of realism and a spark of magic, for this historic time of change and adaptation for the people of China. Yes, the Japanese invaded China and the oppression suffered by the people was eventually overcome by people like the characters of Cheng Fen Tai, Mu Dai, Yu Qing, Mr Du, Young General Cao and Shang Xirui. They would not compromise what was imprinted in their hearts and minds. The strength of all those who stood proud and strong guided the people to where they are today. Yes the separation of "The Brat and The Businessman" was the inevitable end of this story and we are left with our imaginations to conclude Boss Shang Xirui's story. Recently I've watched modern docs on the Opera in China and it's a survivor. It is still as illustrious, auspicious and spell binding as ever. So...I think Boss Shang became a legend after performing the Yin Yang ceremony by singing all night on the roof top of his friends house and saving him by calling his soul back to him. The troupe became super rich and self sufficient so 10 years after the separation he retired, left the troupe in the hands of the young apprentice, and skipped China for Hong Kong to happily reunite with Cheng Fen Tai and Feng Yi....YES that sequel works for Me lol...!! THANK YOU.. Thank you⚘⚘ "Winter Begonia" ⚘⚘for giving me a sweet taste of this very special and beautiful art form of Peking Opera. It has survived the trials and tribulations of time and still graces the stages and hearts of the people today. I have to rewatch this to fully understand the story. I was more interested in learning Chinese opera. Watch ," the battle of Changsai". it is an underrated movie but I always put it among my top favorites. It's a story of how a family faced the tragedies caused by war and how some members were able to survive. You will laugh and cry but in between it makes you think and reflect.. This pandemic brought me into this Chinese movies. I have watched a few good series.
I didn't quite understand the whole thing, what is the relationship of the two male characters? Are they just having business relationship or any love involving? There is no sub title and I don't understand Chinese 😢

I think it was more ambiguous. Was it really all just CFT's imagination? Or did SXR really see him off and then disappear? It could really go either way with the way that they filmed it.
Even if CFT was imagining him, I am more inclined towards the fact that SXR will join them. CFT and his wife didn't physically get on the train. They were still waiting at the station holding hands and SXR was still shown running.

This series was a spectacle and very well scripted! I love the way Peking Opera and China's historical context are narrated together. It's a story that really moves us, especially for us opera lovers. My sincere congratulations to Yin Zheng, Huang Xiaoming and everyone in the cast for their dedication and good performance during the production of Winter Begonia. It was difficult to face the sad end of the series, but it was worth watching.

Absolutely loved this series, especially the actors, along with the writing, and the production. Such a fascinating story of the Beijing Opera. My grandfather taught English at both St. John’s in Shanghai and Yenching University in Beijing in the late 1920s. He gave me a book on the Beijing Opera and the pictures fascinated me. It was wonderful to see these photos come to life and see the lives of the performers in that turbulent period of history. I will watch it again.

太好看的一部連續劇! 49 集我連看了二遍! 尹正演的太好!演活了商細蕊! 這個孩子將來肯定火紅的!但是如果沒有黃曉明又穩又好的演技配合也沒有那麼精彩！ 這兩位的演技無話可說! 簡直是絕配! 洛杉磯的華人為之瘋狂! 如果世上真有知音像程二爺和商細蕊!

It's an open ending, but what I feel is that it's hinted throughout that sxr will join Cheng Feng Tai. The build up throughout the last few episodes of sxr delegating his responsibilities towards the troop to xiao zhou zi, introducing his fellow members to the public and basically making his importance less significant for the troop's survival. It all signifies that if he wants to leave, there would be nothing holding him back. And, in the end, he is very clearly not shown bowing to the audience alongside his troop-members, he is definitely running to catch up to Cft, and even though Cft imagines his presence in the end, he and his wife are still shown waiting for him. They don't leave. And the last credit scene even shows them still waiting even as the train starts leaving. Plus throughout the series, there are many more hints, and much more foreshadowing which insinuates that Shang xi rui would inevitably end up choosing his soulmate- Cheng Feng Tai- over opera (or anything else, for that matter). They are true soulmates for whom separation would feel akin to death.
Even Mrs. Cheng said she prefers if he came along, why seperate those who shouldn't be separated?

對於一個戲痴而言，遇上了好作品就是人生中一大樂事，而好作品也分不同種類；有的雖好看但過後即忘，有的卻是在曲終人散後，餘韻還會擱於心頭上久久未散。
之所以認為「鬢邊」是一部具有誠意、值得好好品味的作品，因素有幾個。其一，主演們都表演稱職，多對CP都有火花。其二是無論於京戲的部份，再到服飾、道具這些細節，都很到位，且具有那個年代的時代感，讓這劇看起來視覺上很唯美，藝術感也挺高。
不過這戲最為吸引我的，是它相當於人生中的縮影，人們生於那個不能自主的年代，無奈地上演著悲歡離合、生死離别。人與人之間的各種情義和情感聯繫尤其細膩，大大小小的角色都立體鮮明、有血有肉，各自都有自己的故事和執著。
Funny thing, I started watching this series when they were just releasing its episodes, so more than a year ago, but stopped watching cause I had a feeling I wouldn't want to keep going, but in the sense I didn't want it to end. So I kept rewatching episodes, going back again and again. Every time it made me think about real life too much or made me cry too much, I'd rewind again to episodes that made me laugh or warm my heart, and then I start again and again. I feel like I wanted to let it float around my head and heart some more time and turn it into some eternal song with no ending. My tears now are the manifestation that everything too good to be true must end.
It would be very hard to find anything as good as Winter Begonia.
I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in this production, every one of you. And I hope you know the work you did is immensely appreciated.

Kia ora, Wow ❤ I love Huang Xiaoming and Andrew Yin 💜what a sad but beautiful ending to a magnificent story of friendship, loyalty and love. The love for ones family, friends, culture and country was evident from the beginning to the very end. The over arching theme of Chinese, Peking Opera with a hint of Kungu added a wonderful element of realism and a spark of magic, for this historic time of change and adaptation for the people of China. Yes, the Japanese invaded China and the oppression suffered by the people was eventually overcome by people like the characters of Cheng Fen Tai, Mu Dai, Yu Qing, Mr Du, Young General Cao and Shang Xirui. They would not compromise what was imprinted in their hearts and minds. The strength of all those who stood proud and strong guided the people to where they are today. Yes the separation of "The Brat and The Businessman" was the inevitable end of this story and we are left with our imaginations to conclude Boss Shang Xirui's story. Recently I've watched modern docs on the Opera in China and it's a survivor. It is still as illustrious, auspicious and spell binding as ever. So...I think Boss Shang became a legend after performing the Yin Yang ceremony by singing all night on the roof top of his friends house and saving him by calling his soul back to him. The troupe became super rich and self sufficient so 10 years after the separation he retired, left the troupe in the hands of the young apprentice, and skipped China for Hong Kong to happily reunite with Cheng Fen Tai and Feng Yi....YES that sequel works for Me lol...!! THANK YOU.. Thank you⚘⚘ "Winter Begonia" ⚘⚘for giving me a sweet taste of this very special and beautiful art form of Peking Opera. It has survived the trials and tribulations of time and still graces the stages and hearts of the people today. A timely reminder for us all, of who we are in our own hearts and minds, in the middle of the pandemonium created by the world wide 2020 pandemic. Be safe, be kind, be well and always be cool❤💛💚ox
I have to rewatch this to fully understand the story. I was more interested in learning Chinese opera.
Watch ," the battle of Changsai". it is an underrated movie but I always put it among my top favorites. It's a story of how a family faced the tragedies caused by war and how some members were able to survive. You will laugh and cry but in between it makes you think and reflect..
This pandemic brought me into this Chinese movies. I have watched a few good series.

I didn't quite understand the whole thing, what is the relationship of the two male characters? Are they just having business relationship or any love involving? There is no sub title and I don't understand Chinese 😢
PhamPharmD PhamPharmD Well this drama comes from a novel, in the novel the two main characters Cheng and Shang had romantic relationship but in the drama they are more like soulmates (or in Chinese called 知音）rather than “romantic lovers” by broad definition.
Mere, I totally agree with your alternative ending!! Sometimes in life there is, actually, a happy ending....these two brilliant characters , Shang and Cheng, deserve it. ❣️

I think it was more ambiguous. Was it really all just CFT's imagination? Or did SXR really see him off and then disappear? It could really go either way with the way that they filmed it.
Even if CFT was imagining him, I am more inclined towards the fact that SXR will join them. CFT and his wife didn't physically get on the train. They were still waiting at the station holding hands and SXR was still shown running.

真的有点出不来这个戏了 不管是插曲还是片尾曲一响我就想哭 其实我早就已经看完全集了 但是还是不断从头再看 高山流水遇知音这种情感真的太感人了 我觉得比原著中的bl情更感人 看完原著后我还是觉得剧里这种设定好 这种乱世中的知音之情太感人了 我觉得这剧应该更火的 里面主角配角都演的不错 其实这几年国产剧我都只看正午阳光的。甚至觉得国产剧除了正午阳光真的都没救了但是这剧的本子真的不错 我觉得可能为了过审删了很多 因为很多东西本应该铺垫更多的 比如陈纫香的死 古大梨 曹贵修的线 这些。我发现一部好剧永远不是主角多出彩 而是里面每一个配角都有血有肉 每个配角形象都很立体 这里面每个配角拎出来做个支线都是很有看头的故事 这种剧才看的有意思。希望能上星让更多的人能看到这部剧。终于这里也大结局了，就感觉附魂在商老板和二爷身上也活了一回这一生。发现很多外国观众也很喜欢这剧啊。有点感动。希望国粹京剧能代代相传下去。

This series was a spectacle and very well scripted! I love the way Peking Opera and China's historical context are narrated together. It's a story that really moves us, especially for us opera lovers. My sincere congratulations to Yin Zheng, Huang Xiaoming and everyone in the cast for their dedication and good performance during the production of Winter Begonia. It was difficult to face the sad end of the series, but it was worth watching.

33:06 min when Feng Tai said "I...." and left the sentence incomplete we all knew he wanted to say 'I love you'. Xiao Ming Huang played that part so beautifully, where he wants to say what he feels but then chooses to suppress the urge. I'm so in love with him ❤❤
