I totally agree that this album is underrated; Caress has some of my favorite Rush stuff on it.

Always loved this song, been to the park by St Catherines, the lyrics of the song speak to an innocent period of life for Neil, and showcase Alex’s total mastery over the d and a open chords and his ability to build a song with cadence. Perfectly constructed, masterfully performed.. Sebastian Bach does a reasonable cover on a rush tribute.

Excellent stuff, thank you Kelly Dean Allen! Yes, love Geddy, but the early stuff has a special place in many of our hearts.

I agree as well, I absolutely love this album. Years ago, when I heard Geddy say this it made me sort of sad again because I love this album. It also made me wonder how many artists and groups secretly hate certain albums they put out.

Thank you so very much for this outstanding video! I was having so much trouble with the opening riff, before I saw your tutorial, I almost gave up on it, but now it makes perfect sense to me.
I’ve been a Rush fan and guitarist for over 40 years. Any Rush video that you could do, would be greatly appreciated, and tutorials on the lead parts also if possible.
I have to say it’s very disappointing to learn that Geddy has such a low opinion of this song. It’s hard to sing a song with power and conviction, if you don’t believe in what you’re singing.
I personally think Caress of Steel is one of their finest albums, regardless of general public opinion or record sales, and Lakeside Park I feel is one of Neal’s finest works.
I hope that Neal was as fond of this song, as much as I am, and didn’t share Geddy’s negative opinion of it.
Lakeside Park reminds me so much of when I was growing up, and as I grow more older, the song is more and more precious to me.
My very favorite Neal Peart lyric line is, “Though It’s Just A Memory, Some Memories Last Forever”.
I can tell you with all certainty, that indeed they do! 😎👍🎸

I really appreciate the tutorial, thank you very much!
A am a huge Rush fan, and Lakeside Park is one of my very favorite Rush songs, both musically and lyrically.
The line in the song, “And though it’s just a memory, some memories last forever”, really touched my heart. I have found through out the years, it is absolutely true!
    😎👍🎸

Geddy never said he disliked Lakeside Park as a song per say…he said he couldn’t stomach listening to his vocals on it😎
He’s nuts…I personally love everything about the song. It gives me such strong nostalgic vibes listening to it🤘

"if I hear "Lakeside Park" on the radio I cringe. What a lousy song! Still, I don't regret anything that I've done".
His words, haha. I don't think he liked it very much.

Do me a favor - search YT for "Rush - Lakeside Park - Instrumental only," slow it down to 75%, then go to 00:30 and listen to the guitar. Then when you play the chorus, once you get to the "cowboy" G (where the B string is fretted on the D), instead of switching to a standard C chord, slide that fingering up 5 frets so that both E strings are on the C. Strum that, then arpeggiate it and tell me if you think that sounds more like the original recording.
