snowhead temple was probably my painful dungeon experience on a first time play. before i had the player's guide i painfully used the hot spring water on multiple trips until i got the fire arrows. because of this, i knew how to tackle the different in a different way.
I think it's rather interesting to compare the dungeons between Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask: 01. Forest Temple vs Woodfall Temple: Woodfall Temple is without a doubt the equivalent to Ocarina's Forest Temple. Sure, Woodfall might be the first dungeon of the game, but it's still significantly more complex than The Deku Tree, and considering Majora's Mask only has 4 dungeons compared to Ocarina's 9...it's a matter of pacing. Plus both give you the bow. Of course, the Forest Temple is the undisputed winner here and is often regarded as one of the very best dungeons in the series, myself included. Plus that creepy music theme... Winner: Forest Temple (OT) 02. Fire Temple vs Snowhead Temple: These two are also very similar, only one is covered in fire and the other in ice. Both feature Gorons. Both involve smashing (the hammer item). Both feature two encounters with a mage mini boss. Both feature the threat of falling from the top of the dungeon, causing the player to retread ground. In general, I think it was pretty nifty an idea to change things up with an Icy setting in contrast to the fiery original. However, for my money, Fire Temple is inarguably the better experience. For one, I like the vaguely unsettling theme and general ambience of the dungeon. I also like freeing the Gorons. There's also far less opportunity to screw up, fall and have to reclimb. Winner: Fire Temple (OT) 03. Water Temple vs Great Bay Temple: Upon my most recent playthrough of Majora's Mask, I realized that I don't actually hate the Great Bay Temple. In fact, I think I've only grown to appreciate it's oddly industrial aesthetic, which is quite unique within the series. However, I still find it a pain to navigate. It's not so bad if you're just looking to complete the dungeon, but factor in finding all the fairies and things become much more complex. Maybe not if you're using a guide, but I didn't. Though I definitely suggest doing so! I also agree that the Water Temple gets a bad wrap. Both are admittedly tedious in their own ways, but I really like the general ambience of the Water Temple. Even as someone who has played it multiple times throughout my life, it can still prove to be confusing, especially depending on the order in which you visit the rooms. Plus the fight with Dark Link...it's worth it just for the bizarre room alone! Winner: Water Temple (OT) 04. Spirit Temple vs Stone Tower Temple: So that's three for Ocarina and zero so far for Majora's Mask. I want to be clear that I do like the dungeons in Majora's Mask. I just think Ocarina has better ones. Except in this case. Full disclosure, I have never loved the Spirit Temple quite as much as every other Zelda fan does. I still think it's solid, but I personally think the directing sunlight gimmick was done better in Wind Waker. Also, I'm not a big fan of having to do part of this dungeon as Young Link, leave, and then return as Adult Link to finish if off. I do think it's a good dungeon overall, but between it and Stone Tower Temple, the winner is certainly the latter. Not only does Stone Tower Temple utilize the same directing sunlight gimmick, but it also does a good job of balancing each of Link's different transformations. This serving as a proper test of everything you've learned over the course of the game. While the Iron Knuckle mini bosses are cool, Gomess and the Garo Master are just more interesting. Then of course, there's the dungeons great claim to fame, flipping the entire dungeon on it's head! Without a doubt, one of the most unique twists in any dungeon in the series! Suddenly the sky becomes a bottomless pit where Link can fall to his death! Not only is it visually trippy, but adds a whole new layer of challenge, halfway through a dungeon that any new player will think they've figured out by that point! This is the only case where I genuinely think Majora's Mask had the better version of the dungeon. Winner: Stone Tower Temple (MM)
I personally find Woodfall and Great Bay more fun than the forest or water temple. The Forest Temple is cool, but I think it's a little overrated. I love the atmosphere, the twisty hall gimmick, and the poe sisters, but the whole dungeon feels kind of small and underdeveloped. I'm also not a huge fan of the layout. Woodfall felt larger, more intuitive, and had better puzzles and progression. Plus, it looks better and has a similarly excellent atmosphere, with (in my opinion) better music. In the case of Great Bay, I understand why most people find it confusing, but I found that if you pay attention, the dungeon will point you in the right direction; there are context clues. The Water Temple, on the other hand, is in my opinion one of the worst-designed dungeons in the franchise. It's long, boring, and depressing. Shadow Link is cool and the room before him actually has a fun puzzle (one of the only real puzzles in the entire dungeon), but getting there is torture, and the dungeon doesn't really get any better afterward. Plus, moving through water in Ocarina is so obnixious, while Majora has probably my favorite water movement in any video game I've played (at least in the N64 version). The Water Temple isn't even that hard, just long, boring, and soul-draining. I'm on my second playthrough and the Water Temple is the only dungeon so far that has made me stop playing from fatigue; I beat Dodongo's Cavern and Jabu Jabu's Belly back to back in a single sitting, but I just could not continue the monotony of the Water Temple after beating Shadow Link. I do agree with your take on the Fire Temple though; so far that dungeon has been the most enjoyable experience of my current Ocarina of Time playthrough (apart from the Biggoron's Sword quest). As for Stone Tower and the Spirit Temple, I've never fully completed either and never even made it to the latter, but what I've played of Stone Tower was excellent.
billy, you should 100% do a ranking of every arena in the soulsborne series, or at least a top 10, I would LOVE that :>>>>>, i would love to see where Gideon's arena, O and S's arena, Maliketh, or Soul of Cinder's arena end up
Im sure its already been pointed out, but you can use the deku flower on the top floor of the snowhead and then float down (albeit slowly) and into the secret area with the fairy.
majora’s mask is the game i probably have the easiest time ranking the dungeons, even though the four main ones are all so good, my only main tossup is between position 3 and 4: (Bottom of the Well) (Swamp Spider House) (The Moon) (Pirate’s Hideout) (Ocean Spider House) (Ikana Castle) 4. Woodfall Temple 3. Stone Tower Temple 2. Snowhead Temple 1. Great Bay Temple
Nice video! I liked Snowhead Temple slightly more than Woodfall Temple, but happy to see Great Bay get some respect! And of course Stone Tower is the GOAT.
My favorite temples from “worst” to best 5) Majora’s Moon 4) Snowhead Temple 4A) Ikana Castle 3) Great Bay Temple (personally I love this temple with the Water Temple, I didn’t find it too hard) 2) Woodfall Temple 1) Stone Tower Temple
For sure - While I enjoyed the Tears Dungeons for what they are, I really prefer the more curated experiences of the earlier 3D Games. It's also what I grew up with, so it just makes sense.
Wow I am so early I was just watching another of your videos and saw this- Looking forward to the ranking (even though I’ve never played majoras mask 💀)
id argue that any of the other minor dungeons is more of an dungeon than the moon. there is more puzzeling and collecting in the spider houses, there is more routing in the pirates fortress, there is more puzzle elements in icana castle... heck, id even go so far to say the deku palace + buttlers race is more of a dungeon than the moon :D if you dont have all masks, then the moon is pretty much only a single boss fight.
Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask have the best stories in Zelda. Stone Tower will always be one of the best dungeons in the series as well and my personal favorite in the entire game.
I always find it annoying when people complain about Great Bay Temple for being too complicated, but praise Lakebed Temple for the water changing gimmick.
@innerdemonpat9027 i just kinda found it long and boring, and to me, it seems like the worst parts of the n64 water dungeons. But then again, i did not really enjoy playing Twilight Princess
@Arson151 yeah it was long with alot of waiting around but the puzzles were perhaps the easiest of any water temple in the series. I've always been confused why people think it's hard
Lmao, I had absolutely no trouble beating great bay temple. I went through every single puzzle with ease, but then I had to go back and get all the stray fairies, and I somehow managed to forget every single puzzle in the dungeon, ending up spending 2 and a half hours trying to find that last stray fairy Also quick question; Is there going to be a Wind Waker dungeon ranking at some point?
Worst to best :) Bottom of the Well Swamp Spider House The Moon Ocean Spider House Pirate's Fortress Ancient Castle of Icana Woodfall Temple Snowhead Temple Great Bay Temple Stone Tower Temple
I feel like opinions on Great Bay are largely tainted by mid-2000s era top tens about the WORST DUNGEONS IN ZELDA from places like ScrewAttack. Neither Great Bay or the Water Temple are anywhere as bad as a lot of people like to claim.
I played MM before OOT as a kid and could not understand everyone who was stuck up on the water temple. I always found MM water temple SO HARD.
FINALLY! I found somebody who rates Great Bay Temple. It's very straight forward in reality and rewards paying attention
snowhead temple was probably my painful dungeon experience on a first time play. before i had the player's guide i painfully used the hot spring water on multiple trips until i got the fire arrows. because of this, i knew how to tackle the different in a different way.
Stone Tower Temple is my favourite dungeon of all time! It's just so good.

Perfect list. Exactly the same order as I would have done. Stone Tower Temple is the GOAT dungeon in the GOAT game.

Going back to majora after breath and tears just feel right they are real dungeons with low quantity

Billy pumping out the content. Get it, kid!!
It's just my usual two videos a week + the randomizer stuff ^^
@@BillySYT I guess the long randomizer stuff is what made me think you've been burning the midnight oil. There's just so much Billy now, it's great =]
Great Bay is what the Water Temple should’ve been
@11:58 the fairy mask is your friend!
I always find it annoying when people complain about Great Bay Temple for being too complicated, but praise Lakebed Temple for the water changing gimmick.
Lakebed temple was insanely easy though
I never understand how people have issues with that dungeon
