Star of the Sea - Ivan Morison

Conceived specifically for the beach of Zeebrugge, Star of the Sea attracts attention from afar with its voluminous, concrete structure and curious chimneys. With its cylindrical tubes, triangular inspection chambers and modular parts, the work echoes architectural structures typical of the
coast: a bunker, a pavilion or even a sandcastle. Star of the Sea opens
possibilities for subtle and spontaneous connections. It invites passers-by to enter, to explore and appropriate its different spaces.
Inside, one may experience interplays of light and shadow and sense specific sounds and smells. The varied landscape of Zeebrugge can be viewed through the openings. The work will gradually transform through its constant interaction with the elements while on display in Zeebrugge. The concrete temple - surrounded by sand - reflects time and impermanence. Star of the Sea as a barometer for change.

Ontworpen voor het strand van Zeebrugge trekt Star of the Sea met haar omvangrijke, betonnen structuur en opmerkelijke schoorstenen al van ver de aandacht.
Dit werk, met haar cilindrische buizen, driehoekige inspectiekamers en inwisselbare onderdelen, doet denken aan architecturale structuren typisch voor de kust: een bunker, een paviljoen of een zandkasteel.
Binnenin ervaar je de wisselwerking tussen licht en schaduw en word je specifieke geluiden en geuren gewaar. Door de openingen zie je het gevarieerde landschap van Zeebrugge.
Ivan Morison nodigt voorbijgangers uit om Star of the Sea binnen te gaan, de
verschillende ruimtes te ontdekken, te beleven en over te nemen.
Het werk zal gaandeweg transformeren door de constante interactie met de
natuurelementen tijdens de maanden dat het in Zeebrugge te zien is. De betonnen tempel - omgeven door zand - weerspiegelt tijd en vergankelijkheid. Star of the Sea als barometer voor verandering.
