  • Lily Gladstone made history with her Golden Globe win! The "Killers of the Flower Moon" star took home Best Actress in A Motion Picture - Drama for portraying Mollie Burkhart in the film, becoming the first indigenous actor to win the award. Lily was visibly emotional taking the stage and began her acceptance speech with a few sentences in the Blackfeet language. “I just spoke a bit of Blackfeet language, a beautiful community nation that raised me and encouraged me to keep going, keep doing this,” she said.

You obviously didn't listen to her speech, she said, "This is a historic one. It doesn't just belong to me. Its for every rez kid (me) or urban kid (me again)". @Darkstar_Dayne It's for all us Native Americans because we had the worse representation (98% of the so-called Native American films, taught crap about us) up until now and we had the most roadblocks to fixing them, because they know our story is the most powerful one, so, I don't agree with you and she doesn't agree with you. It's not just for her, it's for all us Native Americans who waited forever for this. Starting with Sacheen Little Feather. It took 50 years.@@Darkstar_Dayne

"I don't understand, that's one person in a very very hard place to grow up where most will live in poverty still, that's not "We" making it.
I certainly applaud her for coming from so little and making it to the big time, but to pretend this solves anything is disingenuous at best and turns a blind eye to the sacrifice and dedication needed for others to lift themselves up as well.

I really wanted to stop watching about halfway through, because I knew where it was headed: evil white men and their dirty deeds done dirt cheap. Congratulations, Lily, for triumphing in the role of a true tragic heroine, if there ever was one. Tell all the truth, but tell it slant . . .

Isn’t it kind of racist that they cast the beautiful native american lead woman, as someone who looks quite western (obviously af mix of native and not). Kind of still says “we can’t cast a full blood native american woman as the beauty one, cause you need to look semi european to be beautiful”. They only use these real native americans on smaller roles. Kind of crazy.

@@916bigAland it’s still 100% her history to claim and feel connected to. Her father married a white woman bc love knows no race. Doesn’t make her family history any less hers bc she has another origin story on her mothers side too and both her parents don’t have the same history. Being half native and growing up on a reserve is still very strongly connected to the culture
