Sheana is based on singer Grace Jones and her stage is in reference to A View to a Kill.
I saw her and was like _"Wait a minute... Is that Grace Jones?"_ What an obscure reference, but I dig it.

Grace Jones is partly famous for being gender-nonconforming; and she even lampooned her masculine energy in her music.
Like the trending culture today, the '80s was also a time when people could experiment with gender expression.

Played this game into the ground as a teen. If you defeat 2 opponents in a row in 4 consecutive perfects, you get to fight a secret character.
Sheana looks like she was a reference to the character May day (Grace Jones) from the movie "A View to Kill"
Yes, and her stage is also inspired by that movie, with the bridge in the background.
I admire the creators for the creativity of adapting gymnastic and rock as a fighting style 👍
If i remember well there is a gymnast char in SNK's Savage Reign from 95, but this one is a more stereotypical gymnast. Anyways that fact doesnt take anything from this game.

Not only that, but she might be the only fighting character from Romania. Wish Street Fighter made her first!

The sprites of the energy attacks, impacts and such are rather impressive.
They have much better quality than many other fgs of this low level type

These sprites are really super well made. Art-wise this game is great, the only complaint I'd have is that a good chunk of characters is just boring and banale compared to gymnast, metalhead and Austrian Painter V2.0.
The entire character of *Wacker* is something hard to imagine to be made after the 2010.

This game company was founded in Taiwan before, but later it seems that it went to China. And I played some of its games when I was a kid, probably more than 30 years ago.
After Street Fighter 2 they was just making any ol fighting game to see which one stuck... I thought I saw every fighter known to man. I never even heard of this one.
Not bad graphics for a 95 dos game.
For a game called Tough Guy there's a surprising amount of female representation in the cast. 3/8 is pretty incredible by today's standards as a ratio, let alone 90's era.
so ahead of its time, never see ms dos games like this.

This company made Sango Fighter 1 and 2 back in the day ('Sango' being 'san guo' aka Three Kingdoms, before Dynasty Warriors got popular) which were really damn good fighters for their time. Only problem is it was hardly known outside of South East Asia due to there being no english version ever which is a shame.

Growing up i read Gamepro Magazine, Electronic Gaming monthly, talked to friends, watched G4 and researched everything announced at E3 from 2002 to 2018. Yet you play stuff I've never even heard of consistently.

I'm amazed how 30 years ago, creators could be so blatant about certain... symbols... and content... unthinkable nowadays (and YES, I'm talking about the sub boss). I miss that freedom.

It was the 90s after all. Remember how japanese entertainment media in general was back in the 80s and 90s with violence, nudity and controversial topics. Now even modern Dragon Ball cant be bloody anymore like back then... even Capcom and SNK fgs cant have any blood (besides Samsho)... and many games in general must be careful with some forms of humor.
Now this is an extreme example, that i even find truly inappropriate... but im also reminded of classic Power Instinct (by Atlus) games, that have a young child called Kintaro, and when he is beaten the sprite show his genitals. Yes... something that nobody would ever dare to do, only those guys and in the early 90s.

Agree. Even the Final Battle, is not feels like a fighting game anymore, since it's a matter of Charging & Healing, and who throw the Ultimate Moves faster.
I don't think those mechanics are too bad. Some of the King of Fighters games had similar features. It adds an extra layer of strategy. Do you go on the attack, charge your super meter, or heal?
@Rocket1377 except kof had healing abilities such as hiederns or Leona's specials and supers ,in this game literally everyone can heal in kof only certain characters could do it like the two I mentioned. Nice try bud

I really like how this video seems to be using the correct audio for the game as the music sounds almost like a Capcom game and not the usual DosBox sound. I know some games that can't sound right without the proper sound card on DOS and it really makes the music in this game a lot nicer.😊

The charge up mechanic comes from Art of Fighting, but this game wanted to make something fresh by adding a healing effect on it. Not a good decision... SNK added that charging to other games but none of them have healing.
