I went into a Best Buy to get the m100 but they didn't have it at the time and was about to get the sony a5100 but i stepped outside for a sec to search for some comparison on youtube and stumbled upon this video. It helped me decide so I went home and ordered the m100 on Amazon. Thanks!
Thanks for this informative video! My mother is looking at the m100 vs Sony a5100. She wants to know if Canon m100 has similar "skin softening" "beauty" feature you can turn on for recorded videos like the a5100. I found the m100 has the feature but I wasn't sure if it was only for post processing for selfie pictures or if it also processed live for videos as well.

On the a5100 you can turn spot focus on then when you touch somewhere on the screen (to toggle it on/off) you can then use the wheel on the lens to manual focus. The a5100 also has the option to program the buttons on the camera to toggle settings so you don't have to run through the menus to change things like ISO, exposure, white balance, ect..
So you do have the option to manual focus with it too, its just hiding under a menu option.

This might be a bit old but, which one of these cameras are better for still shots? And also is it a big difference in image quality?
I chose the M100 for the touch screen menu and the easy menu system.

Please make a video explaining about the recording time limits on Canon
cameras. I want to get either the M100 or the SL2 and i cant get a
clear answer on how much continuous recording time the cameras will make
with the cameras recording in 1080p 60fps. And also If you have a video that exceeds 4gb i have read that there is an issue with the exFAT or FAT32 loosing a few seconds in transition.
29 minute record limit in all frame rates. Not sure about the FAT format loss stuff.

Yes, that is one of the reasons I got the M100, because getting pics from it to my iPhone is very easy with the Canon Connect app on the phone, then from there to Instagram.
I always buy Sony but I have to admit the Canon has better photos ( except for the blue sky like the review mentioned)
Everyone I've talked to has said Canons are the best for videos, Nikons are best for photos, and I've heard a mix about Sonys. :)

One with a 10 rating. The mbps for video is not to high for this camera. So one that is 10 at 50-80 MBPS will do.

After many months of studies about this camera, I bought it at a higher price in January 2021 from Canon's authorized dealer in my country. Most essential movie feature, the frame rates - 24 fps and 60fps are missing!!! - - I bought the camera with many hopes, I am really disappointed and frustrated - - My main need was video/movie/filmmaking, study videography, etc. but I couldn't achieve it! Anyone who reads this comment, please check everything before you buy this camera in 2021, many features you see in reviews might be gone when you are buying it new?

i had both M100 and now A6100, I would say, Sony is far better than canon in any aspect, specially the settings are in more depth and image quality is better, canon is like a simple smartphone, sony is like a pro camera. the bad thing about canon m100 was its aperture shifted the focus, whether sony has on spot aperture change while focusing, which eliminate the focus shift issue.
80% people still get M100😎

There are excellent, cheap third company lenses for sony, but not much for canon m system.
Sony got 3rd party company like sigma. And much cheaper than sony

The Sony a6000 is better camera...it should be though, as it is much more expensive.
The canon m100 is better than the sony a5100.The images made with m100 have more details.
