In a major political shift among student parties, hundreds of student leaders from SOI have joined the SOPU party, including many prominent figures.
These prominent figures include Karnvir Singh Kranti, Jashan Jawanda (SOI), Gursharan Dhaliwal (Campus Incharge), Mohit Rana (President, Khalsa College), Gurkaran Chahal from UILS, Ravi Jhinjer, Karnvir Singh Larika (South Campus President), Rohit Chaudhary (Senior Leader in INSO), Khushwinder Singh (Senior President, SOI Patiala), Sanjana Dhillon, Angad Lubana, and many more. Jashan Jawanda was also the Panjab University President for the year 2022.
This is the first time such a significant number of students have left political parties to join student parties.
SOPU leaders criticized political parties, accusing them of gathering support for their political leaders only after winning elections.
It has been observed that this shift has led to a division in Akali Dal, impacting the Panjab University Chandigarh Elections.
