It's really beautiful to start this Friday with this wonderful song in the voices of Forestella. Although they had to modify the lyrics of the original song performed by Mecano (Grupo Español), composed by José María Cano, also from Spain, they took it to another level with their magic. Really the set of voices, instrumental arrangements and everything, made it a masterpiece...

So this is a cover of Mecano’s Hijo de la luna - Forestella implemented their own Korean lyrics with the song. You might want to check out the original version by Mecano and see what Forestella did with the song. This is a fantastic rendition of the original song.

Esta canción es todo un himno en España, mi país, cuenta una leyenda hermosa.
La compuso José María Cano del grupo Mecano, es un poeta, y forma parte de mi vida. Sin embargo, y sabiendo que tuvieron que cambiar la letra para adaptarla a su idioma, lo cierto es que la elevaron a un nivel estratosférico como la Luna.
Pura magia la de sus voces y la que hicieron crecer con sus arreglos.
I got to know Mecano through Forestella and listened to their songs. I understand why the Spanish love and are proud of them. It is mysterious and beautiful.

Hijo de la luna (= son of the moon) is popular song in the Spanish speaking world. It was later covered by the Dutch singer "Loona" and reached top 3 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
To quote Wikipedia: "The lyrics depict a tragic Romani legend of a Roma woman who awakes at sunrise, begging to the moon to marry a Roma man (calé) the same day. In exchange the moon asks for the woman's first-born as payment. After the child is born, the woman and man are dismayed to see that his skin is the whitest white and his eyes are grey, even though they both have dark skin and dark eyes. The lyrics explain that the child is an albino, due to being a son of the moon. But the man presumes that the father is a payo (a non-Roma person) and furiously stabs his wife to death. He takes the child and abandons him on a mountain, leaving the child to die of exposure. Later the baby is said to live happily ever after with the Moon as his mother. When the child cries, the Moon wanes to cradle and comfort him."

I really get why it's popular even when you don't speak any Spanish it kinda hits. Like I got into contact with it as a child. Didn't speak a lick of Spanish, still don't but I got the song translated so I know what it's about now, but I could feel it was a tragic kinda song with a soft comfort at the end even if it still feels sad. I wouldn't go to bed without listening to it.

Yes, PITTA/Kang Hyung-Ho started this. Then Ko WooRim (basso profundo), and Cho Mingyu (Classical Tenor), and Bae Doo-Hoon is often the glue that blends between them all. But, yes, this is Kang Hyung-Ho's sparkling moment.

My recommendation is Unwritten Legend (Like Someone in Legend) by Forestella. It's not a Disney song at all but it sounds very Disney. Even it's a Korean song I'm so sure you'll love it!

They are gems! Absolutely positively gorgeous shiny gems! Have you read anything about how the group was formed? It was a singing contest called Phantom Singer. Cho Mingyu, the tenor with the boyish voice (and leader of the group, natch!) was the "mastermind." They started with solos, then duets, where Mingyu picked the bass Woorim, to duet with. Then the trio, where Mingyu took the initiative to pick Doohoon, the musical actor. For the quartet Mingyu insisted they needed someone with a bit of rock flair. He picked a singer named Sime Kosta who was later eliminated, so then advocated for Hyungho. Throughout it all he also gained a reputation for being "the cunning and ambitious cat" for his inspired choices of singing partners and music. The end result is the freak of nature that is Forestella!
I'm not that familiar with the rules of Phantom Singer, but from what I've seen, there were also phases of the show where the guys were randomly assigned to other groups. So was Cho really able to pick the other three members and who decided which of the contestants got to pick the others?
@@MichaelReiter the second quartet round was where they got scrambled by drawing lots. That scrambled round is when sime got eliminated. Then for the unscrambling/final grouping the judges made the determination after interviewing each participant and listening to their appeals. Mingyu and hyungho were on the same team during the scrambled round. The other 2 participants of the team were eliminated so mingyu appealed to the judges to get hyungho. The judges ultimately put all the originally formed teams back together so it was a ruse.
