Ohhh, the United Kingdom. It was extremely humbling to have a medical background, 3y of work experience and graduate with a master’s from Oxford just to find myself with no immediate job prospects in the fields I was interested in. I later had to take some time off work to study for (and pass) “more” board exams and as you can imagine, finding a job after that was as stressful .. it took me three months just to get an interview … and I’m almost 30. So, do not despair; be present in your journey and let things fall into place when the time is right.
😢I feel like a complete failure. I graduated from undergraduate in 2014, I got hired in a clothing store. I finally got a internship in the city government in 2017 and it turned in to a job but the pay sucked. I got my Masters in 2018 and still couldn't find a job. I still working on it for the same company and it seems like no matter how many internships I have or years experience I have I can't get a better job. Now I am on medical leave for a injury and it seems like I got a degree and debt for nothing.
Graduating can definitely feel anticlimactic. You’ll find that the vast majority of graduates will feel the same way when they finish their courses. Don’t get too despondent by the lack job responses. Try and stay positive as best you can. The lucky employer that takes you on will quickly come to realise they’ve recruited a gem! Good luck in your job search 💪
Hi Izzy, I can completely relate to your frustration. I’m 34 and 10 years ago I was in a similar situation. I had a good undergraduate and masters degree and yet I couldn’t get a job. I was applying for everything. Though I found that even for graduate level positions, the feedback was always, “you don’t have enough experience “. How can you say that, when the job is advertised as not needing any experience? I kept on applying and after 6 months I got a breakthrough, a 6 month volunteer position, of what I thought was my dream job. Turns out it wasn’t, but I got my foot in the door, so to speak and learned a lot. I found I got my next role after 2 months it. It was again a 6 month contract but I really enjoyed the job and I found that my enthusiasm was recognised. They offered me another 6 month contract. My career took of from there and I never looked back. I’m now a senior member of a small company and loving my job and life. My advise would be don’t get disheartening and keep trying, even when it’s super frustrating. You’re only a month out of uni, there is plenty of time to find work. See every failed interview (I’ve had many), as a learning opportunity. Also do what you’re most passionate about, don’t settle for a job because it’s convenient and don’t worry about money. I’ve always followed the mantra “do what you enjoy first and the money will come second”. It’s worked out pretty well in my experience.
Thank you for this uplifting video. I am currently 24 as well searching for a full time job with my journalism and mass communications degree. It has been an extremely frustrating process and I am keeping my fingers crossed but it is nice to know that I am not alone.
Problem is nowadays everyone has a Batchelors and many have masters degrees so you don't really stand out just having them. Also I remember when I was out of work applying for jobs every day can be demotivating. If you can find some voluntary work for maybe 2 days a week that would be something to add to your CV and break up the week a bit in between job applying. Or any sort of job - working in a shop or office admin for a couole of days - prob not what you want but again it's something to put on CV, something else to do in the week. It might open up other things as well. Have you tried approaching places where you might want to work and asking directly if they have anything?
Ugh, I can totally relate to your situation! I hate that every employer is like 'yeah you'll need like 5+ years experience' BUT then no one will employ me so HOW am I supposed to gain any experience?! 🙄 I'm 26 (already) and recently got my bachelors degree in communications design and I'm working as a sales advisor part time because there wasn't any 'proper' jobs right away - I'm still on the hunt and if I can't find anything, I'll go back to uni to do my master only to be in the same position yet again in a few years haha 🤦🏽♀😂 Good luck though, I'm sure you'll find something soon 💗
Hi Iggy! I'm in the same position as well. Thank you for standing up and posting videos like this! It's really motivating and I'd love to watch a series of videos that touch on this topic!
Emily Meadows did her masters in London too, I think it took her about four or five months to get a job. She was able to stay because she could prove she could support herself.
You have a great personality and positivity. Your channel is already a success. I can relate to not being able to get a job it's been 3 years working at a low income part time job which is unrelated to my degree but I wanted to start investing and saving. Although, I'm 26 now and I wish I reached out for professional help sooner with career stuff and finances. I'm trying out RUclips as well now.
Hi Izzy. Have you considered maybe working for The V & A Museum in London? They have a Fashion and Textiles Department. Maybe putting on exhibitions and stuff. Not really sure what field of work you are looking at. Just a suggestion from an old person who's been there and knows what its like.
As a corporate slave it’s good you’re thinking about it before diving in, I’ve got the classic golden handcuffs and am struggling to get out and do something I’m more passionate about!
sorry that you can't find a job izzy finger crossed for you. hope you come back to England soon. am 31 and i hated school i didn't want to learn unless it was something i was interested in like wood work or metal work or sports obviously lol you ask me a simple math's question or stuff like that from school 9/10 i wont be able to give a answer. buy my ever day knowledge is on point so after school at 16 i didn't go to collage i just went out and got a job all my Friends and other class mates went to to college and university and rack up all debts and after graduation they still are not in the line of work they studded so hard for... where i worked and got paid and saved up and got onto mortgage property ladder at a young age and had some lovely homes and am only 31 i work hard and am on a fantastic wage to say i never wanted to learn at school.. i learn more out of school then i did in school. got to thank my mum and dad for that with the knowledge i know
I feel like Americans are in a rush FOR EVERYTHING. Like for you guys it’s normal to get married at 20, have kids at 23/24 if not younger and the same goes for jobs, like here in europe we’re probably still studying at 24 and most of us don’t move out of our parents home until almost 30.. so I really don’t get why you’re being stressed, think this way: in other parts of the world it’s TOOOTALLY normal not having a job at 25, relax izzy 🙌🏻
dont talk about europe or americans has a monolith. theres plenty of european countries that pressure there kids to get a job in their 20s, and there are people in america who get jobs in their 30s.
Idea💡Why not set up a RUclips reaction channel? The British love Americans watching their tv clips/shows. It would raise your profile Big time, plus make you some Wonga. Just a thought.
You're time is coming! I was there about a year ago! I was looking for programs post grad and ended up taking a gap year and working at soul cycle at 26 while I figured things out. Whether it's next month or in 6 months my biggest advice is enjoy it, soak up the time with family and keep working hard! You explained it so well, I remember just feeling what you were describing seeing what I wanted and feeling like it was so close I could taste it 🫶🫶🫶
They always say it sucks. The job market always sucks because capitalism works this way. You will have to wait until vacancies are opened when people retire, leave, or die.
Izzy, consider doing some volunteer work while your job hunting. It counts as work experiance and it often leads to real work.

Corporate jobs suck the life out of you Izzy! I've left jobs that paid well, to do what I really enjoy doing. I don't regret it for a minute.
This! If corporate doesn't want me, maybe it's a blessing in disguise?

Took me 12 months to find my first graduate job. Hard times in the world with economic strain and competitiveness
Sometimes you need to think outside the box, museums, theatres, film studios all need fashion people.
Hi Iggy! I'm in the same position as well. Thank you for standing up and posting videos like this! It's really motivating and I'd love to watch a series of videos that touch on this topic!
You seem so employable!

Also your skin is looking amazing love

The reason being is that what you learn at university is not work related.
Enjoying your journey Izzy! London loves you and you have London in your heart ❤❤❤
Don’t worry I’m almost 24 too at my parents. I quit my job cuz it just wasn’t fulfilling and been job hunting for 2 months now but nothing.

your voice is so sweet.
As a corporate slave it’s good you’re thinking about it before diving in, I’ve got the classic golden handcuffs and am struggling to get out and do something I’m more passionate about!
Big companies like Tiktok Deloitte EY and plenty others give out a lot of sponsorships because they end up paying you a little lower than the Brits.
It is close! Imagine the video you make when you tell us all about it! Good luck Izzy

No one I know with a university degree has a job connected to what they actually studied.
