    I grew up in the desert, now I'm on the Atlantic coast, where the humidity is so high that a swamp cooler won't work. When you have a low humidity environment, they really are useful. Thank you again for an informative video, LaMat. All the best to you, I hope it cools off soon out there.

    I'm in Oklahoma and we're getting just the opposite of drought conditions here, it finally stopped raining long enough so I could get some plants in the ground but it is really late, I usually get them in the first of May, not this year. I have no idea what sort of summer they are saying we are going to get. I'll pray for you all, Florida is getting it like you are, Pete at Green Dreams Fl was asking for rain the other day.

    For many many years, our Air Conditioning was a big fan in the window. Was a long time before we had actual A/C. My grandparents were "up town" ... they had a huge attic fan. Now that I live alone, I've kinda enjoyed going back to the old fan. Heat was never really a problem for me anyway. Besides, it takes a lot less power just to run a fan.

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  3 года назад

      Basically a swamp cooler is just a fan with a tiny pump to circulate the water but that water sure helps cool down a room.

      @@solarcabin … When I was a kid we’d make swamp coolers with a fan and wet rags for fun. Don’t ever remember seeing a commercial one back then. Course, back then I was making skateboards out of my metal skates (because they came apart) and a piece of wood. Many years later someone ‘created’ skateboards and started marketing them. LOL

    I have an off grid property in TX that I can not go to in the summer without a generator. I absolutely can not sleep if it's over 70 degrees in my bedroom. Those texas summer nights can still be 90+, so it makes it really hard, especially with the humidity. The only solution I can think of is to double my solar system to be able to run the AC 24/7

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  3 года назад

      Humidity is a big problem some places. Here in the high desert we can use swamp coolers and right temp usually drops right off as soon as the sun goes down.

    I'm surprised you haven't put drip-line in those planter beds.
    *_VERY_* water-efficient.
    Really cute little cooler!
    I might get one.
    I gotta tell ya, tho.... don't use that blue light after sunset. It will disturb your sleep. Even if you're not trying to sleep. Your body won't release melatonin if there is blue ambient light around you. Red light for the evening. As awkward as that may seem. And if you can, just off at night unless you need to check the water level then on and off again.
    Blessings!

      I had it all set up for drip lines and then the chickens scratched up all my connectors. My water is artesian well so no shortage but that is a better system.

    You must not have much humidity. Try using a swamp cooler in Texas. Its like blowing hot sweat into your house.

      I'm in Texas (DFW)we had water coolers at my grandma's house growing it was so nice sleeping with those. I'm old we had no AC in the schools it got pretty bad at the end of the school year. Texas is a big I can't hardly breathe down closer to Houston when it gets really hot I don't know what would work down there or way out west.

    Perfect timing on your video Lamar! Given the political and uncertain climate we live in now, a grid down situation can occur at any time, as we in Texas found out the hard way. A Hessaire unit might be my best option in a new double wide .

    A word of advice: Be careful to only buy roof ventilators with metal bearings. I installed hundreds of them in Sydney and soon leart the cheaper ones failed and went flying off into the great beyond. I also insulated my cabin like a cooler… and it works really well in both summer and winter. I even used a layer of old woolen blankets from the thrift shop. 😎

    have you ever thought of harnessing the turbine in the roof to generate "wind turbine power"?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  3 года назад

      I have a 400 watt wind turbine on that pole in my yard but we don't get enough wind here to make it much use. I would not attach a wind turbine to your houses as they vibrate and will cause a lot of noise.

    Could you generate power from the roof turbine?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  3 года назад

      I would not use that turbine for power. I do have a 400 watt wind turbine on that pole in my yard but we don't get enough wind to make it much use. Solar is better than wind most places.

    You’re still off grid if using gas.... You bring propane in to right?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  3 года назад

      Most off gridders use propane for cooking and propane is a a bastard gas that would have to be flared off if not used and burns 99.8% efficient. If you used wood you would probably have to use a chainsaw and truck that takes gas. Propane is cheap in my area and cheaper than having wood hauled.

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70 3 года назад

      @@solarcabin yeah Im way off-grid and use propane and gasoline. Off-grid don’t mean you can’t truck things in. It just mean no grid utilities are present.

    I bought one of these because you said you could run this in your car or off your computer. However it does not come with a usb port. It is only ac. So now this is useless to me . And sure I could get an inverter ,but they have fans on inverters. So now I will two fans and a pump running off my battery. Totally useless to me.

    People need to know not to waste their time or money on a swamp cooler if they live in high humidity areas such as the southeast like me. They are worthless.

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  2 года назад

      I tell people that in my videos. Swamp coolers only work well in low humidity areas.
