I modded a big muff only by removing parts. I removed the tone circuit, clipping diodes, and a whole gain stage. It's still thick and has plenty of gain and volume but it's more wide open.
You are awesome. I have found this with building single transistor fuzz circuits. The location of pots, type of pot ie linear or log. The addition of a tone circuit. I use a simple tone circuit from a boutique 1950s valve amp. These components added to existing circuits create new pedals. Thanks.

Good pedal sound. I like how the lowered octave doesn't interfere with higher parts. It makes the whole thing sound so much more organic.
