5 months late, but the craziest thing about the thumbnail is that in Jerma's "Who Will Replace Me?", Ryan Manuel (the actor that won the competition) replaces Jerma. The thumbnail makes a comparison to the Bugsnax character Gramble Gigglefunny, which is voiced by Sam Riegel. Riegel is a cast member of Critical Role (A group of nerdy ass voice actors playing dungeons and dragons on stream) and is pretty much the funnyman of the group, almost every session coming up with some bit/skit. One of those skits was hiring an actor to replace him as Sam Riegel. Guess what that actor's name was? Ryan fucking Manuel. Almost the exact same bit with the same actor.
Now it's certainly not a completely original bit and Sam Riegel has actually done a similar one a couple times, but when I saw this thumbnail I had to present this information.
My father is one of the bugs that Jerma ate. I was too young to remember that horrible night, but now I can witness my bug father’s final agonised moments as he is shingekinokyojined by the world’s tiniest titan. God bless.

My favourite bug is Bugs Light Year from Pixar’s _Bug Story_ starring Woody Allen and Gene Hack Man. I love the part where Bugs says “There’s a bug in my boot” and then you realise _he’s_ the bug in his boot and always was the that bug. I don’t remember any shrimp tho.

ya see, he takes points off for the ending because he says it’s a “we gotta have a twist ending” like the devs just threw it in, but there’s not only a ton of foreshadowing for it (including the lyrics to the song in one of the trailers), but it actually felt like it made the story better. and it’s not like the dark atmosphere came out of nowhere, all of the endings to the different sidequests range from “bittersweet, emphasis on the bitter” to “actively depressing”. not to mention, the whole bugsnax thing is clearly a drug allegory, with people (or grumpuses in this case) thinking that all of their problems can be solved by them, and then getting addicted. the fact that they alter your mind to make you addicted (something nicotine does irl) just ties into the drug metaphor even more.
i love jerma, but thinking the twist ending was forced has gotta be the worst take i’ve ever seen.

it feels unprofessional and irritating, tropey to hell and back-- the game concept isnt bad, gameplay is probably totally fun, but the whole story/characters/dialogue makes me feel like i'm just watching someone with mediocre instagram OCs try to get me to care about their story that is only cool and fun for the person who made and not really fun for anyone else, because it feels like the writers of these characters are just projecting their self loathing and angst onto these characters like they're literally personal OCs. an not to mention they literally NEVER HAVE ANY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT LMFAO, they remain just as shallow and unlikeable as they were in the very beginning. so it literally provides no message, no purpose, and i'm not saying every story needs a profound purpose, but bugsnax tries hard to appear smart or ""woke""" but falls totally fucking flat cause it never goes anywhere and is the opposite of clever especially for relying so much on tropes. that's not me bashing the lgbt representation btw because i'm queer as shit, moreso a bash on the theme of representation of characters who struggle with mental health or trauma, cause i'm a diagnosed schizotypal and tired of people gawking at stories with the most basic anxiety/depression shit and self esteem issues themes cause that's literally the most common mental health problems there is... im soooo fucking tired of millenial angst in stories these days as people who grew up on the internet are getting older and getting industry jobs(and im bitching about this as only a 20 year old lol) it feels like they got older and got money but never grew the hell up nor ever realized that if youre going to make a public work then just making ocs the way you always have is not gonna cut it. the chracters dont feel troubled or depressed they just feel sadistic and fucking whiney and bitchy to hell!!! like god damn the writers must have shitty friends or something!!! story wise, if you're going to write a story based mystery game it shouldn't feel like the characters are talking AT you, and generally its a drag to only be able to find out the lore through watching two npcs talk in cutscenes you're not even involved in. also something that bothers me is how creepy or toxic behavior goes totally unpunished. for example it's weird as hell that you can change the sleepwalking character's body against his will without any consent and you can get off scott free with zero punishment, the implications are fucked honestly and a friendly looking fakedeep kids game is the last place i want to see a mechanic like this. also I'm not gonna get into why, but if you've been anywhere near deviantart you'll probably understand why the feederism mechanic creeps me out lol. i know that anything can be a fetish, and not everything is a hidden fetish, but seriously, it's odd and offputting and not in an innovative or "dark"/mysterious way. maybe if it was more innovative and had less millenial angst i'd like bugsnax, but damn, i really don't. you could say "its not that serious its just a kids game" but my counterargument to that is that kids arent dumb but seeing teens and adults praising stupid shit like this will make them dumb.
i tried to keep this rant more critical instead of personal nitpicks or just saying "style ugly lol".

I only watched the full playthrough because ive heard this game get so much praise, and was ready for the "big genius psychological horror twist", and was utterly fuckin disappointed and felt like i wasted my time LOL. at least jerma didnt care for the story much either and i think he's entertaining so its whatever.

honestly fair. i didnt think too deep into the ethics of feeding polymorph potions to people and i will continue not to for the sake of my sanity
but yea i too think that about everyone is "i am stuck in my flawed ways of thinking and i will maybe at best overcome it once in the big showdown and i am now a better person hooray"
