    I purchased the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition. Not because it was a "Limited Edition", but because I liked the retro look of it. I didn't rush out and buy it for $450.00, I waited a while and picked it up for $350.00 which was a price that I could live with and closer to what I felt it was worth.

    Correct on the Seiko LEs, though there are some occasional genuine limited editions. I’ve got a Kosuke Kawamura Seiko 5 that was a genuine 500 piece LE from Seiko Boutique and still trades for 3x MSRP on Chrono24, which is strange… not that any watch is ever an investment of course

      @@outcastkatsuki same thing happened with the stunning and surprisingly decently priced Seiko Alpinist Ginza Edition. It sold out within one week or so and now is very much sought after on the secondary market going for at least 1600 € (MSRP was 750 €). I don‘t remember the exact number it was limited to, but I think it was around 3000.

    Great video - I subscribed because of it
    If Tissot reimagined the 35mm PRX digital with a high gloss black crystal and included a push button, dot matrix, green LED display that’s only visible when you push the button (like the Hamilton PSR) that would be cool and would do away with the huge negative space problem it currently has
    On the 40mm? To be fair if they used the 40mm case and made a smart watch version they’d sell a bucket load to the younger audience they’re trying to target with the PRX
    IFL watches? Buy used and quartz ONLY to minimise potential issues
    And special editions? Better off with a micro brand if you want something different
    Failing that look for something quirky like a modded Vostok or Seiko - properly done some of these are amazing
    If exclusivity / rarity is what you want look for a specialist watch like a CWC, Vertex or Marathon

    Have to differ with you on the Seiko front. Yep, 15k watches as a "limited" edition might sound silly on the surface, but when your market reach and production numbers put just about every other brand in the shade, it doesn't look too silly. Also keep in mind that in the case of the 5 Sports 1968 reissue, you're paying a rather reasonable sum for a reissue that Seiko didn't just phone in (finally!), and the numbers produced mean that even I might still have a shot at snagging one.
    And, we can't have it both ways: some RUclips folks have slagged Seiko for releasing some highly desirable watches in what most would call *truly* limited numbers, and priced appropriately. Damned if they do, damned if they don't?

I certainly don’t expect any resale value. Hopefully one of my nieces or nephews will like to inherit my watches……😂

  • @TheShotenZenjin
    @TheShotenZenjin 25 дней назад +1

    Obvious flaw in the reasoning here is not to mention the percentage of watches produced with the actual demand for those watches. 15,555 might seem like a lot of watches compared to a microbrand, but the demand for that particular watch in actual numbers of potential buyers far outnumbers the buyers for a particular microbrand edition. Seiko caters to the demands of literally millions of watch buyers worldwide, so relatively small productions of thousands are definitely limited editions for such a company.

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  20 дней назад +1

      I disagree. They're still for sale now, almost a year later... That's not limited edition, that's too many made. I get that Seiko is a large brand and therefore has large demand, but 15,000 is not limited by any means.

      @ulig12 26 дней назад

      @@gyrfalcon7332 I bought 5 Timex watches over the last 2 years and all of them met or exceeded my expectations. Cool and very distinct designs, adequately or even well made for the price, quality movements from Seiko and Citizen/Miyota inside, no issues with QC or the straps. Prices ranged from 169 to 337 €, taxes and rapid shipping included. This is more than fair. On the other hand I do not doubt that you can get real crap from Timex. But you should not generalize. As with anything, a watch is worth what people are willing to pay for it. If the Kith Heuer still sells well at $1500 they would be crazy to sell it for less. If people are willing to pay close to $1000 for IFL Watches, why wouldn't they sell it at that price? Just common (business) sense. That being said, I don't think they're worth it either.
    Most picks I completely agree with. I only disagree with your pick of Seiko limited editions: It's just that they have varying levels of limited-ness, if you will. It's a stretch to call a watch that they made thousands of a limited edition-- if you call that limited, *every* watch is a limited edition.
    They do however also make some limited editions at only a few hundred, or maybe a thousand pieces. They should not be considered equally limited of course. It's up to Seiko to communicate that more transparently.

    "Some are just a straight up ripoff."
    So, like, every single watch that scales towards the thousand(s) mark? People's sentimental reasons aside, as they aren't relevant when discussing a price tag, this shit has gotten INSANE. And, I mean, just use replas as an example. Considering you can get a 15k+ watch for 500-600 is really telling. I hold this same opinion with anything involving a brand name, but damn, watches really do fuck their customers over (seemingly) the most.
    "By an UNKNOWN artist."
    Bit of a tangent, but like, this is another big one. I'll never understand art people. "This person's name magically shoots up the price of this piece, which seems to have had buckets loosely thrown at the canvas, by 10 grand. But, This life-like replica of the Palace of Versaille is only a couple hundred, because you're no one and you don't have a depressing story. Or depression, try to acquire that and your price might bump up." Ffs.

      @@TopTierTicker I have made this mistake before: Offering advice that is not being asked for. I still stand by it, and like I said, I love your voice and perspective in watches and wish you continued success. I'll belabor the point one more time in the hopes that you can see how you are compromising your own value. In this vid, the points you are making are misinformed. You are judging Seiko's marketing? Here's the thing, if you like a particular Seiko model and are comfortable with the price, you should get it, regardless of if there are 15,000 of them or 500. Don't hate on Seiko for operating at high volumes. Why should you avoid a limited edition simply because there are a lot of them? It doesn't make sense and is needlessly negative. It's an interesting point, but not a reason to avoid a watch. Only if you are a flipper would this really matter to you because you might think you are buying something that will go up in value due to scarcity. If you like it, who cares how they market it. Regarding IFL - you are talking sh*t on a company you haven't even dealt with. They may be in fact generous with their warranty, but you don't know. It's highly responsible of them to offer a warranty at all! This is a real business and for you to call them into question like that leans more towards defamation than consumer advice. Did you hear from any upset customers? Did you reach out to the company to discuss the warranty? And as for the PRX, you think it's ugly from online photos, and yeah, they made an expensive Casio, but you are in the position to buy the thing, wear it, and see if there is more to the watch. It's an odd argument to make to say "i think this is ugly, you should too, and if you don't, you don't value your money." // I'm sorry these comments are hitting like trolling. I just see you taking a turn that feels like pandering for views and clicks, and I don't think that's what you are about at your core.
