Bye bye!
Generally, we're trained to shoot, only when we've identified where the enemy is...
Failure to hold fire before enemy is identified, results in civilians getting hit unintentionally...
In addition, if you don't know where the enemy is, you're just wasting ammo, and you only carry so much...
And you might have an advantage if the enemy can't hear where you are until you are in a decent position. Shooting at nothing will let the enemy know to some extent where you are before you engage them, as well as potentially what sort of weaponry and man power you have. A small group of terrorists fighting a small detachment of soldiers may stay and fight if they have good positioning and a drop, however if they start hearing more heavy firepower around them, they might bug out. Sure the threat may disappear, but instead of neutralizing the threat, those terrorists live to fight another day instead of being taken out if they held their position unknowing that they were out numbered and out gunned by one or two other military detachments and troops were able to properly flank them unnoticed.
Jibb Mcdonaland generally if you’re taking fire the enemy already knows where you are. Currently in the GWOT if you’re returning fire 3 things have happened, 1) you’ve taken fire, 2) ID’d hostiles 3) got the greenlight to make someone a widow
And 90% of the time you’ll get into a firefight now a days is because you’re returning fire. Very rare for us to open up first, in a lot of provinces in afghanistan civilians and farmers walk around with AK’s so just because they’re armed that doesn’t mean they’re hostile. One of the few battles that would be an exception would be fallujah and even then they still had to be careful because not all of the civies left the city before the fighting began
I hear what you are saying about ammo conservation and one shot one kill, but I guess you never heard of suppressive fire or firepower superiority during a firefight....Derp....
Bret Smith I think they are separate soldiers. Most marines are just foot soldiers then you have the suppressive soldiers that just shoot to keep the enemy down to let their comrades push forward or retreat. I may be wrong let me know.

Every area they are in has different rules of engagement. They very well might be under orders to fire only at targets they can see.
This is mostly to help prevent innocent civilian casualties. Especially when fighting an insurgency, never recruit for the enemy.

RoE in Afghanistan sometimes included only Firing when already being Shot at.
11/10 Tactics.
A lot of incidents of friendly fire and the risk of hitting civilians by shooting blind.
If I remember correctly an American soldier blew up several dozen soldiers with a grenade because he thought there were enemies in the tent that he threw his grenade into.
The reason they didnt just shoot back is because afghanistan battlefield is very complex and there are a lot of civillians so they dont want to accidentally shoot a civillian, also a average solider is taught to push toward and keep moving because it they just stay put then the enemies will surround and go in for the kill
Not to mention the civilians and baddies look damn near identical

@@fonsalvarado yeah you do realize that the Taliban use children as weapons and soldiers right??

The back story of him running up that hill was because his squad was receiving fire and he had to draw attention away from them so they could move w/o receiving a ton of fire fyi. not a dumb move guys a hero, go watch the video.
That makes so much more sense now. Cause I sure was wondering why he was doing that. Hopefully this doesn't sound ignorant and I mean no disrespect. Thank you for clarifying
Now I wasn't there with this guy but if you want to draw fire get some pep in the step, he was just walking around taking in the scenery.. didn't seem like a good plan

Which one? Half the video was advertising 😂

As someone who HAAATES ads (like it's a deal breaker, if someone is trying to sell me shit I dont want every video, I won't watch) I fully agree. That is the first time I've listened to someone advertise something and actually wanted to hear it, because it was a personal and interesting story from him. I think that's awesome for him and the company both
Not everybody who makes advertisements actually likes and uses the product, and even fewer have an emotional relation to them. So it is not possible in most cases. Of course it is great if it is possible.
Something you get taught in your battalion is, always stay with your men, no matter what, risking it, will either get you killed or get your ENTIRE battalion killed. They kinda took a risk cause of the adrenaline flow. Also, when you said shoot back, they probably didn't do that because you dont know what you are hitting, it can be a potiential child just playing around, to an elderly man trying to get out there, thats why you are responsible for every shot you fire.
yes. that ambush where the soldier was shot was a failure to properly react to contact and to stay in formation.

Rulers of engagement may dictate firing only at active valid targets in order to limit civilian casualties. Also if you are on a long patrol firing blind expends ammo that may be limited with no way to resupply and so must be conserved.
ROE always calls for firing at active enemy personnel, it's not like you're out there to shoot tin cans. In OSUT and throughout infantry training you are taught to acquire targets ASAP and call out your "3 D's" (distance, direction, description) for the rest of your squad or platoon so they can immediately take cover and return fire. You don't fire "blind" without knowing where the enemy generally is. The longer you take to acquire your target, the more vulnerable everyone is, but as soon as the enemy contingent is found you can expect your gunner to go cyclic and your fire team to lay down heavy fire to maneuver. It is absolutely not doctrine to be conservative with ammo at the beginning of an engagement-people will die that way. We have firing commands that squad leaders and platoon sgts will give out to let you know how much you should be expending.
I was just going to say, When i was in the Us Army and was a Infantrymen, Rules of engagement was starting to get more strict.. We couldn't consider anything we seen as a enemy combatant in Iraq like we could prior when everyone was told to leave the city or town and if you were still there you were fair game.
Taliban often have day long engagements that stop for hours and then restart. So NATO forces often have to fall back due to running out of ammo.
Blind fire is heavily dependent upon terrain (in addition to supply and civilians). For example, there isn't much blind fire in Iraq and Afghanistan simply because of the open terrain. Now take somewhere like Vietnam or the South Pacific during WW2, blind fire was the norm.

Next minute the Kingdom of Sweden comes a-knocking
5:17 the reason the solider didn’t immediately return fire is likely because they haven’t confirmed wether or not there’s civilians in the buildings, our rules of engagement most of the time are very clear in the fact that we can not open fire on an enemy we can’t see if there’s a risk to the civilian population
And the media would have gone psycho.

How did u get that information?
For me it looks like he is more worried about the other side of hill (his back), his mates seem to be probs 50-100m to his left.
Really i dont understand why at the end he took the small rock in stead of the bigger hard cover?
Playing hero like that will get you killed and is not worth the risk of getting some ranged kills that are not even highly likely to happen.
However i would like additional infos, its kinda hard to judge.
Possible that enemy behind was advancing and they had to push that side of hill, so he took attention - his mates get rid of em and so fasten up a secured movement of the squad?
@@lt.snibbels4472 The guy in the video did an interview with Funker530 a while back. That was his intention to draw enemy fire away from his squad.

Afgan war vet here, was in Kunar Province..Most engagements were at this kind of range. Then enemy knew to keep their distance and have avenues of escape, you usually couldn't see individuals shooting at you, you just knew the basic location and would concentrate fire at those areas until they ran away or stopped shooting. There's no hit markers in real life so you have no idea if you hit a guy or not, its only after when you advance to the area and find bodies do you know. Although the enemy would recover their dead so getting exact numbers is always hard.

Some nation's must not, *cough* warcrimes *cough*
HalalBoi9021 some war crimes are useless. In a war more severe than insurgents and more traditional of course you would shoot in urban areas no matter the risks. If you were in Stalingrad you would shoot even if you didn’t see the enemy.
Absolutely. We are allowed to fire on a target only when three criteria are met. 1) Visual 2) Identification and 3) Clearance. No exceptions outside of standard self defense ie. a target you can see and identify is lighting you up.
I think it varies from like Army to Marine
101327 in what circumstances? If you listen to their comms, 21 and 31 has enemies between them. Now if they don’t see nor identify who to shoot, they might just fuckin shoot one another.
ROE may have prevented them from blindly firing back, as civilians could be in the buildings, or path of fire.
Yeah, usually you need PID (positive identification) in order to fire back.

"Just shoot back" is fine and dandy when you have an idea of where the enemies are, and more importantly, where the civilians are. They easily could've been in an area with civilians nearby, meaning shooting without a direct target is far too dangerous.
Yeah, that was probably in their ROE.
Not everyone worries about civilians of other countries like American politicians. Russia for example will blast everyone around just to be sure.
@@GuyFromTheSouth it really depends on the severity of the situation, if they had wounded soldiers, then they would probably start shooting.
I don’t think his move was stupid. Most of the time the enemy waits until we’re in a position of zero cover. His fastest and smartest move was to go down hill. Because it’s always harder to go up hill. Besides he was pretty far down the hill, so either way his nearest cover was down hill.
obv i wasnt there and didnt get a good layout of the land due to the camera perspective but where was his squad while he was moving down? i assume they all were in cover of some sort. if you look to his right at the start of the video you can see a big rock formation. now unless there is something that would make it such that he got there slower than getting ALL the way down that hill to get behind that structure. i dont see why he wouldnt advance towards the rock formation. 1. its equal to farther distance from the people shooting at you while you have no cover. so you are not advancing while having no cover. 2. the rock formation is shorter distance when you are being fired at with no cover your first objective should be to get behind cover.
Jo Vonn Well you don’t really get much time to think when the next shot you hear might be your last.

@JJAMES Bad or inappropriate training is a thing. Early on in the war, this sort of thing was said to be standard procedure. However, the previous wars fought were done with thousands of men in a small area. This type of tactic is when you advance with a hundred other men to protect thousands. This is one man trying to protect a dozen. Early on in Afghanistan and Iraq, a lot of very small units were nearly wiped out because they were told to engage thousands of enemies while being less than 100.
The training is very different now. Everything is different.

I like seeing people talk very passionately about what they know or what interests them. That's the vibe I'm getting from this. Great video! Much love from the USA
More reactions like this! You can find combat footage of Navy Seals etc. out there, too!
As for the second video, the only reason he was moving without cover was because all his teammates were wounded and he was trying to get them help. It was a bad situation all round.
A family member, Army Ranger, and Afgan veteran said they spent most of their wartime trying to get shot at to reveal the enemy's position. Once they received incoming fire, the enemy was done. He said they killed thousands of them.
Thousands?? He’s cappin big time 😂😂😂

THEY. Meaning a full strength battalion.
them not firing back when the shots start flying is probably something in their rules of engagement so that they dont accidentally hit civs
They didn’t even know the direction and it would be a waste of ammo for no real suppression
We’re trained not to return fire without a positive ID on the target. Collateral damages do such. I this was a close ambush though, positive ID would be nearly instant and in that situation you’d flip it on full auto and light a candle.
We’re trained for quite a few different scenarios.
This guy looks like the Estonian Lucifer Morningstar 😂😂
He do
If something happens to the original guy he should be next
Lol i can't unsee that now
I thought he looked vaguely familiar haha
Bro I'll never see him like anything else again 😂
When he started talking about a soldier story about a watch it reminded me of pulp fiction
Im not sure youll ever see this but i just want you to know man i have an extremely immense respect for you and the way your carry yourself. You seem like a really genuine person.
5:30 like you said the turrain is very difficult to see enemys if they were to fire back at the enemys it would reveal there position, your position not being known by the enemy is very important
12:28 that’s because he was trying to cover he squad and let them get too safety
I think he was drawing fire for them
it was still a stupid move
@Ross? There might have been a better way to cover his squad but I’m not so sure
Phantom Forces players be like: **Hears gunfire. Run Towards the enemy**
Much love from America. You're videos bring me much joy Artur.
i’ve been subscribed to this dude for a while, i just knew he would grow a lot when i started watching him.
Please react to airstrike on Taliban snipers from the Hornets nest
I see you always have an AR in the background. Was curious, as an Estonian conscript, are you required to be readily armed? Or is it just more for the general vibe of your channel?
Anyways, always a treat to see you so genuinely proud of us American troops. Respect to you brother, be safe. 🤙🏻

One of these videos is 179th infantry battalions out of the Oklahoma army national guard 45th infantry brigade combat team. The clip was featured in the movie “citizen soldier”
On the big hill
Jeez, you are probably one of the most genuine dudes I've seen on this platform
That clip is 4 or 5 years old.

Thank you for your narration. I’ve never been in the military, but I admire soldiers for their bravery and dedication.
They probably didn’t shoot back probably because they’re in a residential area and didn’t want to risk having innocent people getting hurt.
Prior to my playing the game Crusader Kings 2, I had never heard of Estonia. Since seeing your channel for the first time, I played a game as Estonia as conquered much, eventually founding the Wendish Empire. Love your videos, mate.
Shooting back in small villages such as this one could bring harm to innocent civilians
sometimes they are told to be evacuated
so they're supposed to just get shot at and possibly die?
I love your content man. Very genuine
Thanks for being humble brother. We appreciate your truth.
Hello from New Jersey! Enjoy your videos, keep it up
This is my first time coming across this channel, I really enjoyed the video. You seem like a sincere, genuine dude. I subscribed and liked and now I’m going on to watch some more of you’re videos :) thank you
You have to remember that they are in an urban environment, that means there could be civilians around. Colateral damage is a huge headache
The video of the man up on the hill- he is basically becoming a decoy so his group can get away. If I remember correctly, he was hit about 10-12 times, but none of the rounds pierced his body armor and he was able to make it back with only some bruising. Very very brave man. =)
Worked with Estonians during my deployment to Iraq in 2006. Great guys. Glad you came across my feed.
This is so wholesome. Good channel
Second video guy was advancing by himself into open area as a destraction to allow his unit a chance to get a better position and he did get hit in the process. Sometimes you sacrifice yourself for your brothers. Much respect
He’s so respectable I didn’t even skip past any of his patron thanks or his sponsor.
Watching from Connecticut!! Great channel
That was the best breakdown of the difference between militaries I've ever heard, and you did it in the first 90 seconds!😲😂😂😎
