  • We joined one of the new NATO air policing sorties over the skies of Romania, part of the alliance’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It’s the first time a reporter has been granted access to fly with the crews now operating these missions from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus after they arrived two weeks ago.
Sian Grzeszczyk was on board a voyager refuelling aircraft that flew with two armed Typhoon fast jets.

Thank God Romania and my country are both in NATO. Actually thank God most of Eastern Europe is in NATO. Otherwise what happened with Ukraine surely would have happened with us as well. And I want to thank all western allies, especially the US, the Commonwealth and the UK, without who the world wouldnt have been the same. God bless you and thanks for everything! @@andrabook8758 He cant do it that easily. US and NATO all have very good defense vs this type of thing as Russia have. He can't just drop a bomb anytime anywhere wich is inside NATO. It will get intercepted. Okay, not all of them but many of it. Also, if Russia do this, they will sure get it back by a counter attack from either a Trident SLBM's or from USA ICBM's or Nuclear Cruise Missiles. Russia also have a nice defense for this called s-400 or maybe s-500(i think it's still in development) but it just can't defend too many. They can shut down couple of this but not all of them. So it is a situation, when both sides will lose, so for Russia it is not worth it as for US and NATO.

Not "sorties" not "sortie", the mission was reconnaissance patrol. NATO attacking from a defensive position would be a, sortie. You bang on about sortie, I was waiting for combat footage and data after you said "sortie", then realised you didn't understand the words coming out of your mouth. @ 3:00 you can see the guy, blank look you, then reconfigured the question to "policing" to de-escalate your question statement. NATO engaged military personnel deserve more respect, we can start with understanding their standards and level of precision, not throwing around inflammatory words then waxing lyrical about "the other side of these uncertain times." Russians watching this report of NATO running sorties from Poland, might rightly encourage their officials to launch in defense to NATO attacking into Russia from Poland per "sortie". Right now we, NATO, have allies in the Russian people who march and protest against this attack on the Ukraine, let's not alienate them with sloppiness.

NATO/US would definitely drive out and destroy the invading military, but advancing into Russia, that would depend on a myriad of factors. There IS such a thing as common sense, and there IS such a thing as MAD, both connotations. And MAD being ignored is not something you want to see, unless you have a death wish. That said, removing Putin is an excellent idea, MHO, but there are many far less destructive and less traceable ways that that can be accomplished.

In order to establish a No Fly Zone over Ukraine the NATO must first lay waste to the enemy's anti-air defense systems (aka the S-400). That means heavy attack and bomb sorties by NATO assets against the Russian advancing military. And since anti-air systems may be outside Ukraine borders, like in Belarus or Russia, those NATO aircraft will need to cross borders and directly attack that soil. Only after that is successful, NATO can set up CAP sorties to enforce the No Fly Zone. What do you think the losses will be, and what will the Russian tactical changes be with that level of NATO involvement?
When I studied this in the classroom, the conclusion was always moving Tactical Nuclear Weapons into the battlefield environment, and bringing the Ballistic Nuclear Missile fleet into a "launch ready" condition. And I won't tell you what those targets were, but suffice it to say it was not pretty for western Europe. We need to be cautious of escalation.

If the war in Ukraine turns in to a real genocide, with more starved cities and murdered citizens on a massive scale, then the West might very well feel obliged to step in. Couldn't be done without the US Air Force but with the combined air forces of Nato, Russia would not stand a chance in the air. Obviously, the risk of further escalation with nuclear weapons can't be ruled out but there is a pressure point where what we see on the ground could potentially make the risk worth it.
