I absolutely adored Bubble Bobble in the arcade. What a game 🤙
Absolutely. For such a basic idea. Damn it, it was an addictive game.
I don't recall the Amiga version being that quick! It was a long time ago admittedly, but I'm sure it wouldn't have gone unnoticed considering how much me and my friends played the NES and Amiga ports.
The Saturn and PlayStation discs came with two versions of Rainbow Islands also IIRC, one which looked like the original arcade game and one that made more use of the available colours of the 32-bit consoles. And I remember reading that these were based on the Amiga port as the arcade source code was not available.
It's likely an issue with WinUAE and the speed. I have said this in other comments.
Ah, Bubble Bobble. Possibly, the cutest and most charming video game of all-time. 😅
It is certainly up there at the top.
My absolute favourite game of all time. Me and another mate have played this all the way through literally thousands of hours for DECADES on the Speccy, C64, Amiga, PS2 (never knew there was a PS1 version or we'd have had that too) and are now doing it yet again on anstream on PS5. Know every trick and secret like the back of our hands
An absolute timeless classic.
Love these comparison videos Jamie. Thank you again pal!
Glad you like them!
Really enjoying these videos since I found your channel.
Would be great to see Gauntlet.
It is one that I am planning to do. Keep your notifications turned on.
Gba was a great port! Probably my favourite (but I grew up with the c64). My favourite all time game! Great list!
Hey, thanks very much
Really enjoyed this! Now I think I need to queue up the Saturn version. Would really love to see Ms. Pac Man, as I'm currently thinking of collecting all of the portable releases and weird versions myself. I'll make a terrible video if you don't make a good one first!
I absolutely love the Master System version, it really is superb. It also has 100 extra levels, bringing it up to 200 levels!
Unfortunately, I've never managed to get past level 199, which just loops forever, because there's one secret item I can't find earlier in the game. One day!
Well, to be honest. I got up to around level 90 back in the day. Damn the game gets hard.
I remember there was a PC reissue from around 1997 that had Bubble Bobble and Rainbow island on the same CD, from what I recall that was almost arcade perfect.
Yup. Same time as the PS1/Saturn release.
Yeah it must be the same one.
Love your videos and VERY happy to see this one covered- takes me back to 1990 when I was 11 playing this at Alfreton Lido in the summer with my mates (with a Final Fight machine to the left and Toki to the right 😎)
Absolutely believe the C64 version is the best coin op convo on the system (alongside Shinobi and Midnight Resistance 💪🏻)
I actually covered Shinobi too. Awesome pott. Midnight Resistance..what a game!
In the MS-DOS version of Bubble Bobble you can use the same keys to control Bub and Bob at the same time. I've heard that's also possible in the Amstrad CPC version.
The last time I played the Amiga version of Bubble Bobble I think I had to change the CPU speed in Retroarch to get it to play at normal speed.
Thanks for doing my request. I used to adore the C64 port back in the day and it truly is a fantastic version. Infact, Most systems got an enjoyable and playable port. The Amstrad and Atari ST though. Shameful ports.
Thanks for the idea!
oh.. the Amiga version I played back in the day was the same speed as the Atari ST, quite sluggish.. and I always wished it was just a tad quicker, but the version on here is most definitely too quick. The Apple II version I agree completely with what you said, dont make it if the system wont handle it, I couldnt believe it when I heard there was an Apple II BB port, and unfortunately it played just as I'd thought on my beloved system.
Like I say, considering the Apple is from 1977. It's impressive it even had a commerical release that far into its life.
Nice work. Atari St has a similar AY sound chip as the Speccy and Amstrad.
Ah that will be the reason. Not sure why it was known as a great music production computer in its day. I remember my music college having an old ST in the corner once.
It's because of the MIDI connection that made Atari ST the choice of DJ production etc some old school guys STILL use it
@WillMGucci yup, not a big fan of it personally.
Not everyone was lucky to own a Sharp X68000. The PlayStation Version is as close as most can get to arcade perfection.
Especially in the UK at the time 😉
These videos are great. Can you do one on Pang? I spent many hours playing it on the Amiga 500!
Hey, thanks very much for the suggestion. A great shooter too! Consider it on the list.
Perhaps comparisons for Prince of Persia, Marble Madness, Samurai Shodown, YS 1 & 2, and Alone in the Dark?
Hey there, thanks. I have a couple of those already on the list
Well, I think the Amiga version you recorded is a slower then what you have shown, emulation speed?
Also, Tiny Bobble was related two years ago, this was a total re-write of Bubble Bobble for the Amiga and made it nearly arcade perfect.
Yup. Tiny was great. Sadly couldn't be used here for the obvious.
I still like the PlayStation version more ultimately.
That's cool
The speed on Amiga Bubble bobble is not like in your video, I grew up playing it. Great video otherwise, love these comparison videos!
Hey, no probs at all. Not sure why that would be I used WinUAE with a stock 500 config.

@@JustJamie1983 Yeah, strange, but maybe an emulator setting? Thanks for replying! This is an example of how it should play: ruclips.net/video/pNfQBaS03M0/видео.htmlsi=-ji0HRYfKEjZik1E
Your Amiga emulator is set to high or something i had bubble bobble on Atari ST and AMIGA and they ran almost exactly same so ... As side note Saturn version was excellent ❤
Likely refresh rate of whdload file was corrupt.
Played loads on the c64 and thought it was great fun especially in 2 player mode
Later played the amiga version which for me wasn't as good as it could of been for the advanced hardware it had
Think the speed is down to emulation as it isn't that fast on real hardware
100% I am there with you 😀
Yeah I think you’re right I had the game in 1988 with the Amiga 500, when we got a Amiga 1500 it didn’t play on it, so it’s most likely emulation.
@djhaynes99 it is emulation. WinUAE running a stock 500
@djhaynes99 PS. If you love Amiga. Check out my AmiKit review here:

mmm Game Boy Advance version: included old & new (new look and +sprites) version option.
That's cool but, really this video could have lasted 6 hours if I included every single port. Most of my audience do prefer between 10-15 video, so over 18 mins is pushing it.
@@JustJamie1983 understood but I wanted to show what it means for me to make a good version of a game, give you the original and also a modern version, in the Playstation 1 generation for example they put a lot of bonus in the games obviously to capture interest or to remedy the technical limitations , today we tend to sell any addition to a video game as an extra so seeing a title that offers you two opportunities like in Bubble Bobble on GBA to play the original or the new one is satisfying for me.
@xcom457 hey, that's cool. What ever works for you 😀
Are you emulating the Amiga version? Because it doesn't normally run that fast
WinUAE as a stock 500
PS. If you love Amiga. Check out my AmiKit review here:
ruclips.net/video/wrpTS029tk8/видео.html
Can't remember the Amiga running fast. You emulating at 60hz or something.
It's likely running at a higher rate by accident. It is likely either WinUAE or the Whdload file.
Before I watch the video, I find it hard to believe there is a better conversion than the ST one....
Ok let's see if I'm right
Hey, remember. These are just my personal choices.
I guess when I think of conversions, I usually think of systems that are less powerful than the arcade counterpart. So ps1 etc.. doesn't count IMO
@JustJamie1983 No personal attack. All good hear👍
Sure it wasn't that fast on the Amiga, are you playing it on 1200?
Hey, there this is running via stock 500 in WinUAE. If you are interested in Amiga. Check out my AmiKit review here:
For those who aren't sure about Amiga in 2024. This is the best thing you are likely to get apart from a real Amiga, of course. Watch my review here:

@@JustJamie1983 ah great, will do. maybe my eyes were slow back then!
😀
More than likely you have either a bad image or emulation problems for Apple at number 16. Not that it would win any awards anyway, but just saying. I remember spending hours on it on my friends Apple and no issues such as you are having
Hmmm, it will likely be the last time I use an Apple to be honest. But you are right. Could have been a bad image.
@@JustJamie1983I just finished watching. The Amiga speed is not what the game actually runs like. It runs more like the Atari ST version (a tad smoother maybe), but certainly not as fast as you show it to be. Maybe check your winUAE settings or try another adf file.
Yup. It was likely a bad whdload file. If you are interested in Amiga:

@@JustJamie1983 I will get to that, I am currently binge watching everything you have put out there mate. Great channel, I wish I had found out about it sooner... Fun fact there is another modern Amiga version called Tiny Bubble, made by the fine people that brought us Gradius (actually called Tinyus) on the A500
@jimkrom yup. I know of it. I have covered plenty of classic/modern Amiga in the past with tutorials and gameplays. I am a C= geek 🤓
