- As promised, in my recent Stormont Estate video, this is my wee walk/exploration/walk round of the inside foyer and corridors of the magnificent Stormont Parliament Buildings.
Surprisingly, while there is a lot of footage of the Stormont Estate on RUclips, very few if any, RUclipsrs, have filmed inside Stormont Parliament buildings! I find it very strange that my RUclips footage made August 2022, is almost unique. The only other, 'inside Stormont walk round;, footage, I found, was a Virtual Tour of Parliament Buildings, published by the Northern Ireland Assembly. This video is well worth watching.

This fine building ranks as number 2, after Belfast City Hall, in my FREE to enter, MUST SEE, Belfast visitor, list of attractions. Do not miss going on one of the free tours round the inside of this historic, beautiful, architecturally significant building. These wall have seen many political changes. The great and the good and the not so good have come and gone. Others will follow. If walls could talk!
Stormont Parliament Buildings
Parliament Buildings, ( Grade A Listed building ), often referred to as Stormont because of its location in the Stormont Estate area of Belfast, is the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, the devolved legislature for the region. The purpose-built building, designed by Arnold Thornely, and constructed by Stewart & Partners, was opened by Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), in 1932.
I bleieve the cost was between £1.2 and 1.7 million back in 1932. It is anyone's guess how much it would cost today. £500million?
Magnificent building Tom, thanks
Yes it is fabulous Mike.
Beautiful building indeed Tom. I went there for a job interview after I left school. Many, many years ago!! 😊
It is one of our very finest buildings Joan.
Hello Tom thats was great you did a wonderful tour again you are my list so much bigger when i come home , Belfast and Derry are 2 cities i did not go to very much as a young lad we always wanted to go to the Port . I have seen a lot of the world but from Belfast to Derry the North Antrim coast has to be one of the best trips anyone can visit . Thanks Tom this is a must for sure .
It is my 2nd best free place to visit in Belfast, Shaun. A fascinating experience especially when you do the free tour. Derry/Londonderry is a fascinating historic place too.
Thanks for this film of the interior of Stormont, it brought back memories of a visit long ago. Belfast is such a wonderful city with so many surprises.
Hi Robert. Many thanks for your encouraging comments. It always surprises me how few RUclipsrs have been inside to film this fine building. Yes, I have tried to document as many of Belfast's hidden gems as I can. I have been pleasantly surprised myself so many times. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland.
@@TomMcClean Hi Tom My two visits to the City were great, and full of interesting experiences travelling around. The most curious was being stopped by Mo Mowlam and being asked the way to the nearest police station! Sadly I could not help ... Maybe, one day I'll return.
Yes that was something Robert-chatting to Mo Mowlan. She was quite an eccentric, people person, character. She did much to open up many of the 'gov't buildings and formerly restricted parklands for public use. Everyone remembers her! The rest of them.......well no. Belfast has changed beyond recognition since her day. You'll be very welcome. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland.
Wow Tom i'v been so looking forward to this video, what a place, I know I have said many times we carn't wait to get back over to Ireland to see these wonderful places but it's a case of when at the moment, so it's great we share moments like this through your video's, that ceiling is amazing the Italians know what they doing when it comes to job's like this.
That is a very interesting story about the roof on storming being covered in cow dung and moss because the same procedure was also adopted on our village pub roof to fool the Germans when they came over from Norway and Denmark to go and bomb Hull,
on a moon lit night they used it as a marker on there way back from Hull.
The pub roof had blue glazed tiles so it shone like a mirror and when the Germans saw it they knew they out of danger and were heading over the North Sea, so the roof was covered just like Stormont's.
Great video Tom.
By the way i'm sending some more poppy seeds over these were given to me by a family friend not sure what variety they are I think they could be California P oppys.
It took me a bit of time Chris but I got there in the end after jumping through a few silly hoops.
Yes the German pilots were using Stormont as a marker to home in on Belfast!
Thanks Muchly for new poppies! lol
Nice Tom I'll be staying in the stormount hotel tomorrow night across from the stormount estate looks good but I don't think it's opened at the weekends but I might see it another time the building
Hi Lucy. I know the Stormont Hotel well. My daughter worked for a few years on the desk. Van Morrison likes to call in quite often. No Stormont Parliament buildings are closed at weekend but the grounds are well worth walking round. Look out for the sculptures/statues, floral displays, preserved WW2 bomb crater to the left of the main gate and the WW2 barrage balloon anchor pints halfway up the main drive to the right and near the toilets. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
@@TomMcClean aww lovely one Tom
I won't put my view on certain current clowns on the hill hding this coubtry to ransom to but the building & architecture is amazing I got a chance go to an event in it & got a chance go into the old assembly chamber & the new one
I'll not say anything either Michael. The building is fabulous though. What a place to go to work each day.
@@TomMcClean yeah amazing building Tom
An ole goat let loose in a fancy big building! lol
I’m quite surprised they let you wander around with a camera. I know that part is open to the public, but even still. The ceiling is beautiful. The whole interior is beautiful. A jewel in the crown to be sure. I’m glad it wasn’t built in 2022. Most new buildings are just horrible. Whatever we had culturally in terms of architectural and interior style is long gone, dead and buried. Thanks for sharing!
It's a public building but still you should see how the PSNI treat photographers here when the officers gets out of the wrong side of the bed that morning. Usually it's details and you get searched under the Justice and Securities Act 2007 for wireless apparatus and ammunition. For taking a photo of something they don't like.
Hi Greg. I made very sure that I asked at reception what I was allowed to film and where I was allowed to go. This whole foyer area is open to the public. As long as you obey the normal rules on filming ( Don't ever film children and don't deliberately film adults, ) and you are respectful then all is well. I was delighted to be given such freedom. lol
