“Son of Pain” always makes me cry! 😢Just seeing the emotion on Dan’s face gets me every time! I think Dan would also be an awesome actor, because he conveys his emotions so well! The Phantom of the Opera music shows off his talents brilliantly, although I was a teenager in the 80’s and love his metal/hair bands’ songs from back in the day (which seems like just yesterday.) Dan helps ol’ folks like me to reminisce of those young and carefree years, and I honestly just love the way Dan’s music makes me feel. I can hear "Pour Some Sugar On Me " and I am transported back to 1987 when I was a senior in high school! 😂It’s just so many great memories. I have stopped myself several times in my writing, because I just want to thank Dan but now he’s got creepy grandmothers running after him, so I don’t want to sound like he’s my obsession, but just my fantastic entertainment ! Since he’s got weirdos after him, I try not to put hearts as my feelings regarding his videos, because I (can’t believe I’m feeling it necessary to explain) but I’m completely thoroughly and utterly in love with my gift from God: my husband of 17 years. I’m so old that I had graduated from high school before he-Dan- was born! I would like to wish Dan a belated happy birthday! I think that so many folks my age just enjoy the memories above all, but Dan’s performance of all of his songs have 110% of his abilities! I’ve never heard any song by Dan that made me think “I have heard some other artist’s version done better, or he was holding back on this song!” Never! Even though I've heard this rendition of Dan's many times, I'm still blown away by just how phenomenal his voice is- not just the notes he hits and the beautiful qualities of his voice, but how he makes it so unique and like you said, "otherworldly". I am so glad that I came across your reaction to this today. I know your reaction was quite a while ago. I love this song by Dan even though it is not one that I listen to a lot. For me, it is as if Dan has ingested the experience of the White Wolf existing alone and when the wolf howls ( sings), he is always alone. Makes you sorry for the wolf and his world of isolation. Even though I had never heard of the Witcher games or series, I loved Dan's covers of these Witcher songs. I had to do a little character & song research and go back to listen again for an even greater appreciation of what he did with those songs. I love all of them & prefer them to the originals. The Song of the White Wolf has such a mournful, almost Celtic sound to it and Gabriel kept that last note going for a ridiculous amount of time. I agree with you about Toss a Coin to the Witcher being catchy. I find myself singing or humming it at times. If you haven't reacted to Burn Butcher Burn (I didn't see a video), that's definitely a must do. He puts so much into that song. Also, Dan also did 2 versions of Priscilla's Song (Wolven Storm) from the game. The metal is great and the traditional w/lute is lovely.
Now that you have gone down the Dan Vasc rabbit hole; you need to check out The Last Stand (Sabaton cover) which is excellent. My Immortal is fantastic too. I bought the score to the first season of "The Witcher" a few days after it dropped, and I basically have the whole thing memorized. This is the final song on the score, and I thought I loved that version... Until I heard Dan's version... No comparison. None.
