How To Learn Faster - Read 5 Books Simultaneously - Tai Lopez

  • Check out the 67 steps to getting anything you want out of life: wealth, health, love, & happiness here.
    If you want to learn faster you have to experiment with different 'modes' of reading and learning. One of my favorites is the 'gulping' approach, where you bounce around between 4 or 5 books all in one sitting. This takes advantage of what Steven Johnson in his book, "Where Good Ideas Come From," calls "negative quarter-power scaling." This means reading twice the books doesn't just give you twice the knowledge - it's exponential - it gives you 3 or 4 times the mental growth...

    When I "gulped," I was in a program called Job Corps. I was in the IT program.
    The program offered CompTIA certifications (foundational IT stuff) for free. I asked my instructor what the fastest record was for the A+ cert and Net+ cert. And I said "I'll beat it." They kind of laughed at me and went "Wow, ok, this kid." but then 3 months later, I beat both records. And I work in IT now, for a public school system, at 19, youngest employee in the district, but after gulping information on real estate, business, investing, etc, I decided to go to seminars, groups for real estate and investing, and sought out a couple mentors, who mostly just gave me sort of lectures, if anything else, and I took notes, but it helped.
    And now I'm looking into my first couple real estate properties, and creating an invention. And I will be quitting my job soon to invest and become an entrepreneur full time.
    ACTION is what will break your barriers for real. Gulping and absorbing knowledge can prepare your for it, but deciding 'let's do it.' is the only thing that will get you places. And of course, sometimes you just read stuff for knowledge you'll use in the future, or just to learn it.
    My amazon wishlist of books is pretty big, and involves many subjects. I probably won't get all the books, but I'll get a good chunk overtime. Use your resources, use your time wisely. I'm 19 now, and I can feel myself going far. You can too.

    • @erniedawg
      @erniedawg 8 лет назад +2

      Ian that's so damn great! At 19 too! Don't get distracted, keep going and doing what you're doing.

    • @ianthefifth7790
      @ianthefifth7790 8 лет назад +2

      Update:
      I have taken a break from real estate and investing. It hit me that it's not what I really want to do. The invention is still in the air, because Stuff has been coming up in my personal life, but I start a new job where I will make over $45,000 a year, still 19, almost 20.
      I still have my ideas and have done lots of research on how I could prototype my invention and make it into a business. I thought about starting it out as a tech service company, where I'll be a consultant and be an outsource for businesses.
      Not as 'up' as I wanted to be, but I'm still climbing, believe that. Thanks for the positive comments.

      How far are you now? Still in school and simply getting a job a loan for a study and a house doesn't seem like my cup of tea. How did you realize you didn't want to follow tradition and do real-estate or become a investor/entrepreneur/not a Joe.
      And on a side node you may spend time earning a lot of money but also take some time to spend it.

    I'm an extremely slow reader. I can only read a book a week. It's hard to comprehend a bunch of material at once. You read a book a day, but how much of it are you actually retaining? I just try remembering the most important things, from each book. That's why I love how to win friends and influence people so much, at the end of each chapter they give a nice summary. When I review it, I can remember the chapter some what. As of right now, maybe it will change in the future. I read about 3 books at once. I'll have multiple reading sessions throughout the day. Usually about 4. 2 before I go to work, and 2 after. Because I only have a short period of time till I start getting bored or restless. About 10 pages per session, sometimes a little more, depending on the book. That takes me about 2hrs total. I study fitness, so I take notes and stay on each page for a while. I'll do that for 1 session, than the other 3 will be whatever. If you just read one book, it gets boring. You want variety.

      +B9King937 Read a book at your comfortable pace. Your conscience will hunger for more and pick up speed and experience. That is the unique ability of our senses.

    • @B9King937
      @B9King937 8 лет назад +5

      muffdriver69 My speed has not increased since I started reading everyday. Everyone keeps telling me that, but it literally has not changed. Warren buffet says he's an extremely slow reader, but he reads everyday.

    • @muffdriver69
      @muffdriver69 8 лет назад +6

      B9King937 Don't get too carried away about speed. The more important thing is you read and you enjoy the book. I find speed reading destroys the enjoyment of the book. But there are techniques to speed read. For me, I speed read by jumping paragraphs, knowing what paragraph is about. Depends on the type of book. And "the more you learn, the more you earn..", no offense to Warren Buffet, but it depends on what you learn. e.g: Reading a book on practising the Neo-Nazi regime.. etc.. doesn't get you far in life. Just saying. The important thing is you have positive emotion and motivation.

    • @B9King937
      @B9King937 8 лет назад +5

      muffdriver69 I only purchase books that will help me out in my life. Fitness, health, psychology, marketing, business, self-help, investing, etc. I do the jumping over paragraph technique every now and then. What I learned from reading, most books, can be shortened. You'll learn something valuable, than they spend pages upon pages shoving it down your throat. It gets to the "I know, I get how important it is" mood. I really like how to win friends and influence people. They tell you the overall lesson of the book, followed by a short story. Than they move onto their next point. Other books just DRAG. If a book is originally 300 pages, there's no reason they can't shorten that to at LEAST 250 pages.

    Dude I feel you I'm the same way. I'm the type where if i go to Barnes and Nobel I'm not just purchasing one book. There's a quote by Malcolm X where he says "People don't realize how a man's whole life can be changed by one book. The one book that really got me into reading was Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Once I read that book I just started thriving for knowledge. Then once you start reading daily you realize how much you don't know. The 3 books I'm currently reading are:
    1.The Science of Mind - By Ernest Holmes
    2.Succeed and Grow Rich Through Persuasion - By Napoleon Hill
    3.Platform - By Michael Hyatt

    I have always done this glad to see I am not alone in learning this way. I have read a chapter of a new book thought it was doing nothing for me and then months later I am reading a new book that I enjoy and it relates to the previous book I put down months ago, so I go back to it, enjoy it in a new way, and learn from it. It reminds me of the quote, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Keep reading and keep learning!

      +Zackeus Taylor keep up the reading. especially if you are young it is great. i started young too and got a library card and it was a blast. when you go to high school and college it gets really hard and busy. reading for me is important to learn things from others as is education so reading can expand your mind and you can learn what not to do and what to do to be happy or succeed. keep up the reading and i know people like to think readers are nerds but don't let that mess you up because you will do the things and be more intellectual that them.

    I am 20 years old, and I really started to learn a lot when I joined a startup. I think the amount of knowledge learned in the 1st two months was exponential for me. Because as a startup, you have a limited number of people, and thus you become a big part of the organization. As a result, you learn how to code, how to work with others, how to motivate, and a lot more. That year was really life changing for me.

      I just read ``Read Right to Lead Right`` it talks about effective and efficient ways to get the most out of what you read. Such as making lot's of notes in the books you read. So library books aren't the greatest. Used book stores are golden tho. You can get a lot of good books for cheap and if you're lucky you can find some with past readers notes so that you can not only learn from the author but also from past readers.

    Hey tai, like many others I found from your Google ad, then I watched your tedx talk, and now I've watched almost all of your videos. Thanks to you I've started reading as much as I can. I'm only an eight grader, so I'm just starting to read high school level books like grapes of wrath. As I get in to high school though, I want to start reading more "helpful" books, because it seems like that what you usually read. Although grapes of wrath as I'm currently reading is a sort of inspiration from hard work. Idk why people are calling you a scam, I plan on buying your book myself in a few months or so, but I've seen your Instagram and your RUclips videos seem legit too. Anyways your kind of an intangible mentor for me, since can just go on your RUclips. and it's awesome that your putting this stuff out so thanks

Highschool is coming up and can be a very intimidating time filled with changes. Stay consistent and don't get into the self-conscious aura of highschool that many teenagers are dragged into. Love the term Gulping!!
    Gulping is the way to learn! As I am relearning how to learn as I repair my brain from head injury- gulping is the only way I can 'learn'!
    I can't just sit down and read a book as I believe most people do (curled up snuggled in a comfy blanket with coffee and the sun dawning) nope not here- (I actually would be curious what the origins of that are and why we were taught that is THE way as I imagine the greats have all gulped and then ponder and then apply.)
    Due to the head injury I can't use 'saccadic eye movement' (left to right eye movements) yet so to 'read' I scan for 'like' (similar) concepts, pay focused attention, reread or circle or click a photo and read it via my screen, then once I have that point I move on to hunt and gather for more points to absorb!
    Learning to retain info via 'just the facts' is fantastic! For those recovering #tbi this is the key for sure!
    I should say- this is a great way to 'learn' vs delve in and 'enjoy'a book. I think there are different styles and cadences for the intent of the desired topic to read and for what the intended result. So end result in mind for me = relearning= gulping is great!!!!!
    Notes on how I've learned that the Best way I've found for my style of reading is : - I find a subject that's interesting for the day. -I get focused and zero in on that subject and either via book or Wikipedia, and then-I let my brain take over and sit and relax and try not to 'try and read'. - my brain knows how to read so I just allow it to take me to the key facts and then like a web connect me to other topics on that topic. It's like a #knowledgeScavengerhunt. (New phrase coined- you're welcome Tai- I get royalties! Haha!) -sometimes that subject piques my interest in another subject and I may have started out with spiritual leaders and end up in Pluto's Ice volcanoes! So it's like an adventure!!
    -just like any good adventure: I just keep going until I am tired or 'full' then I take a brain break or a nap to allow my mind to process what I've learned. -I trust that without anyone labeling how I should be doing this, I trust my early education and trust in my I instincts and then I let my brain play. Just like knowing when one should stop eating, stop hiking, Etc, my body and brain will alert me to when it's time to rest and I pay attention to those cues then come back for more when I'm rested! Then I go walk or color mandalas etc.
    -I've done this with algebra, women's studies, early Hollywood acting - as I learn about my family's genealogy (all actors), yoga, neuroplasticity, physical and spiritual brain training, investing, physics, how to color my own hair and do makeup (#girlproblems)
    -It's way more fun! I can go through entire sections at a library quickly (when I can get out and function!) and it does become a huge dopamine surge going from book to book taking the necessary that I want to learn (I am sure the info gleaned is different for everyone) and then leaving out the anecdotes or filler words that critics say make a great book!! Just give me the meat and potatoes please and pass the sugary verbiage until I want to sink into a dessert book with some tea and enjoy.
    - It's exhilarating and I can also do it while laying flat to heal via my handy iPhone and Ebooks via the open library or Wikipedia!
    So if a brain injured blonde can do it anyone can! Plus it is FUN!!!!!
    Mega points for Gulping because it is Rad As Shit! If you were to look at my Wikipedia bookmarks you'd be like 'what is this blondie doing- origins of language all the way to Jesus walking on water, lost cannons of the Bible, to Arabic, to gravitational wells and the equation for happiness (thank you @GermanGarciaFresco via @TaiLopez video)! But it's a super fun way to learn!
    -Books on the list this week to #KnowledgeGulp: (Frequency, Autobiography of a Yogi, The Road to Character, Your Erroneous Zones, The Art of Mental Training, Practical Centering, Flight comics, and BodyWeight Strength Training)
    So I know this is severely lonnnnnngwinded and my apologies (relearning brevity is next.....!) (#tbiproblems) ....but essentially--- RIGHT ON!!! I hope someone somewhere gets some help from my own #KnowledgeGulping experience! And thank you for reading my #essaycomment- going to GBWR longest comment ever hehe!!)
    Thanks SO much for the video -I searched Tai Lopez Speed Read, as I was trying to see how you go through so many books, only to find out it's been my strategy all along this TBI journey!
    Keep up the videos and info as they are great! Muchas Gracias Amigo Lopez! (Nextweek on the list is languages I want to learn them fast like a kiddo does...🤓👍 any suggestions?)
    Cheers! ~ =)

    Not too long ago. My ex had dumped me and I was emotionally destroyed but then in the next upcoming weeks I began to read a bunch of books in regards to relationships and understanding the masculinity and feminine qualities and how to influence people and manage oneself. I had a book that I'm reading called "How to be 3% man, and how to get the women of your dreams, 13 things mentally strong people don't do and compelling people." All helped my understand more about myself and how things with my ex ended and with these books, along with other programs, helped me understand myself, women, and people so much better that I have better self awareness than I did in the past and how to acknowledge my own self worth. Thank you Tai. Much Love.!

    You've really sold me on this whole idea about reading books for transcendence of the self. Out of curiosity I read the book 1984 last month and it changed my life. It changed my life by allowing me to see things differently. I can't even imagine how much my life would change if I read as much as you. I think I'd be a different person. A better person.

    Alongside reading 10 books/week, I also enjoy gulping audiobooks. I read somewhere that if you listen to audios at double the speed, the comprehension is greater. So using GarageBand, I've been changing the tempo of my audiobooks from 120 to 200. So I'd listen to 1 hour's worth of content in about 30 or 40 minutes.

    Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
    Read fewer books deeply instead of rushing through many.
    “Master those books you have. Read them thoroughly. Bathe in them until they saturate you. Read and reread them…digest them. Let them go into your very self. Peruse a good book several times & make notes & analyses of it.
    A student will find that his mental constitution is more affected by one book thoroughly mastered than by twenty books he has merely skimmed.
    Little learning & much pride comes from hasty reading. Some men are disabled from thinking by their putting meditation away for the sake of much reading. In reading let your motto be ‘much not many.'”

    Hi Tai. I just was linked to your channel recently and this is my second video. You have already made a life-changing impact on me. I have struggled with various addictions and anxiety issues over the past few years that have prevented me from reaching my potential and you have given me another source of inspiration to push forward and get the things I want. I have consistently held myself back through things like drugs, video games, food and anxiety. I have not been able to break out of who I was and become who I am. After watching your videos I am convinced reading is the solution, It's almost like a mentor without having to actually find a person willing to spend time on you. From this point on I vow to never waste another minute of my precious time.
    Thanks

    Hello Tai, I use to read books fast like that back in 2009 and I stopped because I went through a horrible divorce. I would live in the library because I was studying for my Master's. It was so boring with text books that I would just start pulling books off the shelf that interest me. I had so much fun and was so bright and happy. My husband couldn't take it and got very insecure because my level of conversation went way over his head. Eventually we got a divorce in 2011 I lost myself to a job and forgot who I was. I am at the point like you were before you discovered the key to getting wealthy. The only difference is I have a 12yr old daughter that I homeschool and trying to shake the public school programming has finally come to an end. Alot of the things that you have conversed in your video so far I now realize I did to make other people rich. Why does it take almost loosing everything for the light switch to come on? I am running out of time and now its time for me to turn on the SUPER INTELLIGENT SWITCH. Thank you so much ny brain fog has been lifted. After being stuck for almost 2yrs the feeling of knowing where to start again feels my heart with joy. When I write my book you will be in it along with a few others but you took the ball and scored a three pointer. Trust me I am not just saying this its true. I was very bitter and hurt by alot of things. AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH💕🌇🌺🌹😅🙌SHALOM!#LoveJunkie

    I enjoy reading about people's lives, especially about people in the military. As someone who is in the military I feel it's important to know what other people have done. Now since reading American Sniper I've been able to reference things from the book in discussions that come up in the military community. I'm also reading "First In: How Seven CIA Officers Opened the War On Terror" which has a lot of good info on the CIA's involvement in the middle east, and the history of the Taliban.
    As someone who plans on working for the federal government (state dept, ect.) these things come in handy. When you read these types of books about history, and people do you read front to back? Although it's just for fun reading, they also have a lot of useful knowledge.

    What Tai Lopez neglects in his talk is that there are only 24 hours a day. If you read 5 books a day (whereby each books is 500 pages per day of fontsize 10), without speed reading, it is not possible to go through a day in doing other productive things. Like he said, and among other philosophers, the practice is more essential than the knowledge. If all you do is read dozens books all day and not enough time to do anything else, then you're really not applying the knowledge to your best practices. I think he is missing that important point, because I sense that people will take him too literally on his words and eventually become a hermit in a cave, knowing nothing else but read books their entire life. Guys, you need to read books with good time management in other tasks you set in your daily routine; read the books and APPLY. We live in a physically world, not an abstract one.

    youtube is great. Years ago people as successful as this guy were inaccessible. Tai is actually getting me to read. Its funny how videos from someone you never met can get me to do something like reading more that your spouse has been warning me for years that my brain will rot.
    Just started Richard Dawkins - The Magic of Reality.
    Its tough though for me to read in order to better myself. I already feel I have everything I want. I'm not anywhere near rich, but I have a good job that doesn't suck. I like it. Gives me money to fun stuff outside of it. Wife works a good job. We share 1 Subaru and live in a 1300 Square foot house.
    I am not hungry for anything different in life, so it's tough to read just to keep your mind sharp vs getting knowledge b/c you are hungry for something life.

    One thing I've found myself doing lately is listening to audiobooks while reading a book, while listening to binaural beats. No idea how effective this is yet, but I've been taking notes on my ideas and then recapping how I can include them into real life or business. A time I've found myself learning as much as possible is when I was in college with no friends and I stayed in the library for 10-12 hours at a time and read textbooks/nonfiction books on whatever I was interested in at the time.

      Listen man, reading is a skill. Just like anything else, it must be built over time. For some reason people think they're supposed to be able to sit down and just read for hours at a time. Not true, think of it like jogging. If you haven't made exercise a regular part of your life and you got up one day and tried to run for an hour straight you would fail. It's the same with reading. Start with 5 minutes a day, but do it EVERYDAY so you can build the habit. Then after a week or two bump it up to 7 minutes, then 10, then 15. Eventually you'll be able to read an entire book (or damn close to it) in one sitting. Also, I'd like to really emphasize not to judge yourself when you're first starting out. It's okay if you can't remember anything you've just read, your brain is still getting used to this skill. Just focus on building the habit everyday and don't worry about how "well" you're doing.

      +Bhavik Bhardva if you have a question, im sure there is a book out there with the answer. if your looking for a genre/story, theres a book out there that will capture your imagination. make sure its a topic or story your actually interested in. take a sec and read the front/back cover or maybe a chapter. see if it grabs you. if it does you'll know. if you have to ask yourself "am i really interested in this book?" your probably not, put it back on the shelf. it'll be there next time you go to the bookstore. unlike tai i dont like to buy lots of books at once. sometimes my interests change too much by the time ive finished one book and id rather read something else, or i end up busy, yada yada yada. i like to buy one, maybe two books of something that im interested in at that time. read em and repeat.

    When I was in my 20's , I had a hard time getting money for school, so I started feeling like I was falling behind everyone, I finally decided to go to the library and see if I can just read as many books as I can to catch up. I started slow, it would take me a few weeks to read 7 or 8 books. I would go through the library and find what I thought I should know. Not knowing so much being only in my 20's. I would think "Oh no what if I didn't need to know that" after reading a book. I felt like I was never reading what I should be reading. It seemed like there was no way I was really learning what everyone else was learning. I emptied like 300 books in a few months time. I still felt like I knew almost nothing. I kept reading had some days I would sit in the library and down 7 books a day instead of in a few weeks. I would go through each section of the library and nearly empty the shelf in a matter of time. Law was the most boring subject I came across. I read the first few pages of the Charter for the Federal Codes and passed out. Woke up in the library and tried to read more. It took me 4 years or more but I eventually got rid of the boredom by just taking on the challenge of getting through the codes. It was getting a little exciting to have actually read through the laws of the land. I wouldn't suggest people read them it was absolutely worthless, it just became kind of a challenge to me , I got started and was determined to finish. I have read a lot over 2000 books, I have so much I set out to accomplish afterward but ran into a lot of trouble with not having acquired the technical skills and academic discipline to put things together for myself the way it needs to be done in a society of sororities and collegiate politics. However after 6 years of college I still don't have a degree and even more that my experience and knowledge has given me a passion or what I consider my career goal or a way to put my life's work together , so lots of goals and plans but still need some course work , still need a few seminars , and lots of money. I am 46 , health is still good, never had any health issues but being human I can only hope I can accomplish what my time and hard work studying gave me a passion to accomplish.

That's 1hr each day (30mins in the morning and 30mins at night) or you can just do the 1hr before bed... Thank you very much Tai. Firstly your video on how to read a book in 10 mins taught me a great way to extract the nuggets from a book and then I heard you read a book a day and that inspired me to double my target from 100 books this year to 200. This means 140 books in 22 weeks but I'm finding that reading more is having several benefits including: i) finding connections and universal principles ii) my ability to learn and my hunger for learning is rapidly increasing iii) my memory and vocabulary are improving iv) my concept of possibility and even reality is changing by the day. To answer your question: Spirit of Kaizen by Bob Maurer, Losing My Virginity by Richard Branson, Voice of Influence by Judy Apps. Thanks again for your excellent work sir. Peace & Kudos

      neeeehhh? Is that the sound a horse makes? lol
      Not sure what you meant by the sound at the beginning, he just asked what books we were currently reading (or something like that, I am not trying to watch it over again right now lol).
      I have heard of the second one, I will check those out! I have been reading the Steve Jobs bio from Walter Isaacson lately. Well, listening to the audiobook. But I do plan on ordering the real book very soon!
      Thanks for the recommendations :) Have you read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho? I just got a copy, I haven't read it yet but I have heard some great things,

    Started gulping alot when I was in 10th grade charter school called the center for economics and law! We had to do thick practicum s every time you go to grade up! These practicums we had to read large amounts of books and write a composition. Then get up infront of all the teachers and grade of students from every class and get asked questions about everything we wrote and read and defend your composition! Crazy right!

    Wow, what you said by the end, "Dumb people completely limiting the beliefs" You couldn't be more right. When I started reading books I saw everything way different than I ever had. But noticed that no one around me could see the same thing, even if I explained them.
    Man, reading books is the real difference between successful people and non-successful people. Or at least a really big one.
    Just Brilliant!!!!

    Probably the best book to read is the Bible. In the Bible it says : thou shalt not bare false witness, thou shalt not steal - and a false balance is an abomination. Do not do to anyone what you would not like done to you. Adherence to these principles saves a lot of time.

      Most of the teachings from these books come from the bible anyway, its crazy because the bible is over 2000 years old

      CzechRiot Note that I didnt say anything about God, Im just saying its crazy that modern books have same teachings from the bible , like the law of attraction. The bible talks about faith and seeding

    This is actually how I read. Like I enjoy simultaneous reading than staying and finishing one book. The latter leaves me bored. But the former is the great pleasure of my life. I thought I just have ADHD.
    I suppose methodology do matter if you're going to enjoy it or not.
