It feels like a lot of pressure. But it’s quite a slap in the face with reality. We need to accept that even in a life time we won’t be able to know everything. So I find it very interesting to re read, re consume what you already know to go deeper instead of wider. Thank you for this video 😊

Thank you for the comment! I agree that acceptance is probably key in this limitation because of our time not being endless on this earth.

Thanks for this comment, I've always felt like I was wasting time and felt guilt rereading or rewatching things I took interest in. Never though of it as going "deeper instead of wider," it's going to stick with me:)

Currently doing a degree in Information Studies (formerly known as the library and information sciences degree). We analyze this concept of "information overload" and "information silos" are barriers to access to truly useful/helpful info and are simply overwhelming to engage with... it's honestly scary and it's valid to feel "dumb" in light of this problem. I recommend looking into these two concepts.

They do indeed seem to be very closely related to what I'm talking about. Thank you for the suggestion! There is indeed such an overload that it makes it hard to see what is really important to read or to learn and what is more 'filler'. Especially considering the pressure people feel to publish papers and stuff...

Just looking at the series The Wheel of Time gave me anxiety...Pretty normal for me to feel awful by reading anything for leisure these days. Ever since I enrolled in college I keep thinking how much I have yet to read and how much important it is too - even tho I would love to read just a silly romance book sometimes. I haven't found a solution to this problem, so I have to face it everytime my anxiety arises. I hope I'm not alone in this...

I highly doubt you are alone in this. Thanks for sharing your feelings! I hope you find the mildness and strength to allow yourself to relax with a fun book sometimes too! Don't fall into the toxic productivity trap. Sometimes taking half an hour out of your day to take a break is a lot better for your brain and mental health than that extra half hour of cramming. Good luck :)

    Wow that was so interestiing!!
I am not at aall a reader haha
So it was even more interesting to see which things I can relate to and which not
I noticed how I have the same feelings/fears of missing out, wasting my time, always something in the back of my head which i "know" i should rather be doing
Just for me it is actually producing? (Aside from like college responsibilities etc pf course)
Producing in a creative way! Making music, making art.
Because I feel like this is what I told myself I want life to be about. Express oneself creatively.
And this is where it gets so interesting to me, because it just shows again how on one side different! humans can be.
We all choose for ourselves how we make our life meaningful.
On the other side we are all the same in the sense of our feelings.
We all have the same kind of fears, just applied in different context!
    Love your content btw! ❤

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! Creation can be an amazing form of coping for sure. I feel like some of my videos are created just so that I can soothe myself a bit with the idea of knowing enough about something to talk about it. Talking about something means that that is some knowledge I possess or am thinking about and in that sense, even this video is me also producing in a creative way to cope with the fear! Have a nice day thank you so much :)

Hundreds of books seems like enough when I have less recommendations. Diversify to legends of most genres to get a richer experience. Also I firmly believe in the right book coming at the right time. :)

I enjoyed Moby Dick but only because I read it out of free will on my own tempo. If I had to read it in school, I probably would've disliked it. I also feel like the inheritance cycle by Paolini (Eragon) came at the exact right time for me. During my university years, showing me that only reading for school purposed was not all that and a bag of potato chips. Also the first books I made a video on on the onkruid channel :)

@@Onkruid Yeah at the right time a book can have a much more profound psychological effect when it sort of augment's one's reality. I'm not sure it is always healthy though, maybe for coping. There's also the 'what one don't understand first becomes the favorite later on' pattern. I'm wrestling with the scalar implicatures video right now because I haven't studied linguistics in that level of detail at university ..and you know what I'm not gonna watch it because a learned something from this video and dealing with information is an important topic for the rest of our lives. I'm generally here for the psychology anyways...

@@ddg227 GOOD CALL. Scalar implicatures were the topic of Master' Thesis sadly and I had to spend 2 years of my life on that subject, but by all means, spend your time on something else! Even when understanding, it's not worth the investment.

After some deep reflection, I realised that this need to endlessly aquire more information might stem from values in capitalism. The need for abundance and eternal growth is so indoctrinated in us because of consumerism. This causes the desire for endless knowledge growth, I think.
Because of its roots in a system that is unnatural and unappealing to me, it became easier for me to accept the existential fear of not knowing. I don't wish for my values to be in line with capitalism and be an indulgent consumerist, so I shouldn't exclude this sentiment to the excess consumption of information either!
Of course I don't mean to say consuming information is inherently "bad and capitalistic". I found the connection quite interesting and helpfull to make peace with reality.
Great video, thank you for sharing :)

What a great reflection! Thank you so much for sharing this thought process with us and I'm so glad to hear you found your way of dealing with this topic. I personally never connected the 2 before but it makes a lot of sense now that I give it some thought. The need for MORE MORE MORE can apply to knowledge too. Have a nice day!
