Great job! I appreciate you as an educator, especially in these challenging times where some seek to alter, or even erase, legitimate recorded facts in our nation's history.
You’re born for this, and I must say when I read the dying words of Mark, and I was convicted. This man repented! Mark had a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, it’s not what you do the flesh, our appearance, but the soul is who we are, I was touched, moved! I read and read repeatedly, Marks dying remarks on what caused him to be in that state hanging for years, cause Revere to turn, it was a known location, lead me to think about his widow. Thank you for unearthing this. Continue.
Thanks so much for this in-depth look at what actually happened to Slave Mark. This is an important piece in a book I am writing and you clarified all and any questions for me. When the book is finished I will be sure to send you a copy, if I am able to reach you. In any case, thanks again for this insight and info.
Paul Revere sounds like he was Lamenting the act! - something to consider. Maybe even something other revolutionaries/his reader had discussed as unjust. You are putting conjecture into his statement by saying it was "merely a landmark". Not what historians should do. Samuel Adams ordered the body of Crispus Attucks buried in the Old Granary Burial ground directly next to the graves of fallen white revolutionaries of the Boston Massacre. Not Racist. Most of the Sons of Liberty were yeomen, and artisans and not landed Loyalists/Royalists gentry (like the Royals/Pepperells) who owned slaves. Paul Revere was most likely of French Huguenot ancestry, possible of Spanish/PortugueseJewish origin (-Anglicized from Riviere/Riviere, silversmith being a Jewish/Huguenot trade) his lineage was not Church of England., He as not granted land or property and was barely made a freemason). He owned no slaves, may have employed people of color, and the copper his shop created no doubt employed free blacks next to whites in the Shipyard that sheathed the U.S.S. Constitution. It is important to only point out New Massachusetts "dark history" regarding race but also point out the obvious points of empathy and commonality that resulted in Mass outlawing slavery within months after its Constitution was adopted. it would not have happened had the cultural climate been otherwise and proves it was the English Landed Gentry who mainly had instilled it., not the Revolutionists who often and vehemently oppossed it in writing.
This sounds like another idea for a video. Thanks for sharing! My focus for this one was to share the Mark Codman's experience, and keep it relatively brief. I don't subscribe to what historians should or should not do, so you're in the wrong place if you don't want to hear history laced with personal thoughts. The notion that Historians should suspend their personal opinion/thoughts has never sat well with me because in reality, everyone presents information from a specific point of view. Sources are always linked to my video so folks can read other perspectives and not just my own (and to fact check as well!).
@@BlackGemsUnearthed I appreciate your channel. I grew up in greater Boston area. My family owns a house that sits on what was the Charlestown Commons - which was located in today South Medford/Barry Park - then part of Charlestown. The "Medford Road" (Mystic Ave.) went straight from Charlestown there for this purpose. It was "Common Grazing Area" deemed so in 1600's by Gov. Winthrop/Royal House Grounds nearby - who had no doubt left or were about to. the house was used as Revolutionary headquarters shortly after. Revere was likely going there because it was a "Common Gathering Area", less suspect, and possibly so he could ford the Mystic at the historic "Common Ford" for animals/people (across from my house) and not use the bridge which was owned by Loyalists and had a toll/be suspect. The whole area of South Medford and it's Churches were later an Underground Railroad hotbed - including the Stearnes - who took over the Royal House property. they Hosted John Brown there. My house sits on land sold to a shipbuilder (who probably employed Black freemen/escaped slaves/Cape Verdeans alongside others) from the Hall family (Possible Prince Hall connection). deeded from lay Pepperell in 1803 who was married into the Royall family.
I stumbled across you and couldn't stop watching your videos. You would do extremely well with a national show.
Thank you 😀

Might I suggest removing slave from the front of his name? While he was enslaved, we restore his humanity by not labeling him as Slave Mark.
Great info! Tell me later how the gem was picked up on your radar.
Thanks! I'll holla at you later 😎

@@myradioon That's awesome you know so much about the area + property where you live! Thanks for sharing.
Read Jacobite Gleaning by J Macbeth Forbes it will give more of an insight on what slavery was and where the people you’re calling black came.
Thanks for the recommendation!
