Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Water - USGS Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Water. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) represents the amount of oxygen consumed by bacteria and other microorganisms while they decompose organic matter under aerobic (oxygen is present) conditions at a specified temperature.
Hello sir, I am learning environmental engineering and it would be great if you could help me with a question. What does P₁ & Lu mean in relation to the Biochemical Oxygen Demand curve?
Thankyou sir iss concept se 1 sawal aaya hua tha jee mains me mai jab sawal kar rha tha to ye dikha . Sir ye concept kis chapter se hai wo bata sakte hai please.

As I know bacteria decompose organic matter in 2 stages first carbonaceous second carbonaceous+ nitrogenous. So I wanted to ask why not all the carbon containing organic matter will decompose in first stage why there will be carbon left for decomposition in second stage. Why there will not be complete decomposition of carbon in carbonaceous stage of decomposition?

Sir... in definition organic matter is not suited bcoz here only biodegradable organic matter are measured... so in place of organic matter should be biodegradable organic matter
Can anybody explain me that how we are adding oxygen there ,like he added 10g and then when he evacuated he found 9.9g but there must be already some oxygen present in the water before adding 10g so how we came to know that micro.....consumed only 0.1g.
Any sample always has some dissolved oxygen. It will be consumed only if water has microbes present in it and used to convert organic matter. Which can be calculated. But for an experiment purpose, we must find the known amount of value as he explained as 10 gm. In the original condition, we have to analyze the unknown value for all polluted water. If you need more guidance. Ping me
Sir, I understand your explanation very well (thank you for this)but sir ,I have some question....... 1)what is the way of dissolving O2 in polluted water( O2 is liquid or gaseous) 2)how to know experimentally that, saturation point of O2 has been reached in the polluted water.... 3) how amount of O2 is calculated in gram experimentally. 4) how to measure the the remaining dissolved oxygen in polluted water. Please make a video or replay me to overcome these questions.......I will be very grateful for this....

FABULOUS EXPLANATION, ESPECIALLY THE LANGUAGE TEACHING USED IS VERY SIMPLE WHICH MAKES IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND. THANK YOU SIR FOR THIS VIDEO.

It will take infinite time to complete the process, follows exponential variation.

Sir 5 day ki BOD jyada hogi 4 day ki BOD se ..for other condition are same??
Excellent
Sir no. 1
Excellent sir.. but sir apne ppm calculate krne ke kiye into 10^6 kis basis par liya.. can you please elaborate sir..?
Ppm means mg/l .To convert the gm/ml to mg/l you have to multiply by 10^6
Sir... in definition organic matter is not suited bcoz here only biodegradable organic matter are measured... so in place of organic matter should be biodegradable organic matter
Very good explanation
Sir, What is the issue, if BOD value is higher, and why need BOD value less than 30mg/l, need help to get clarity in this.

These valuse I think by experiment and numerical values, so he took random value to explain us ( not sure)

We have to dilute the polluted water with aerated water in 1:6 ratio.
We have to measure initial do of sample by titrating and final after incubation
