I had heard this report some time late last year. I am wondering, though, if Kate is ill, or gets divorced from William, or is in some way unable to step into the role as Queen/King's Consort, what implications would that have for William's ascension to the throne? Would he be expected to be King if he is caring for an ill wife, especially as he currently seems to be using that illness as the rationale to step back from his extensive royal duties?
A monarch isn't required to have a spouse so divorce is not an issue.
IF he has a wife who is ill or disabled there is staff who handles all the domestic duties even with a spouse. William and Kate are not doing the laundry, dishes, and grocery shopping themselves. Wife or no wife, staff does it all.
As far as ribbon cutting duties that a Queen would be expected to do there are other royals who can step in. After all it's not like they have day jobs somewhere punching a time clock. They can share the ribbon cutting duties.

One thing that struck me as very odd, was the angry expression on William's face as he knelt before his sovereign and pledged his loyalty etc to the crown. What came to me, is that the two younger children were hurt in whatever brawl happened that also has incapacitated Katherine. Sheys recovering but it's the children who won't be seen again.

William and Catherine had all the help and resources to assust them all in dressing in all of those robes etc. They should have " practiced and " timed themselves' to know ho much Time was realistically needed to get their family to the chuch on time and yes early and waiting ! I think Prince William should have helped out Catherine and the children instead of acting like and entitled " you know what". There was no excuse other than someone fainting - when getting ready for that Coronation. The Grim Reaper stole the show and was like foreshaddowing future events that we all see now playing out. If you attend a Rehersal of a Wedding there should have been a rehersal for dressing up for that Coronation and getting into your ride EARLY !
Kensington palace and the KIng and Queen should both return to the Queen's Motto" Never Complain, Never Explain ! Because this daily drip of mud slinging is unnecessary. Attacking M&H and attacking Catherine seems all a waste of time and energy and invites only negative PR for the royal family !

And the follow-up explanation put out that it was a maintenance worker who happened to get in the frame just as Charles was walking down the aisle was dumb. Like as if there wasn't heavy security outside the door of the church preventing such a thing and The Grim Reaper just went skipping on by being caught on camera. 🦇
